so, kaitlan, where does this go from here?nna, this takes me back to when president trump was in office and the way he talked about this. this report is being released under the biden administration, declassified. they talked about it a lot. i remember we used to talk about this with former president trump and we used to question him on it, especially after it was reported that the cia had concluded that, yes, the crown prince had ordered jamal khashoggi's murder. president trump used to tell us that the crown prince, he believed, was very angry about what happened and he was upset about it. that's what he kept pointing to as kind of this defense of his position, and we were questioning him about his role given he was the leader that the former president, president trump, communicated with. when i'm looking at this report it says the crown prince had fostered an environment in which his aides were worried about failing to complete an assigned task because they were worried they could be fired or arrested. so here it says, bria

kaitlan, i want to start with you. there is obviously as you saw in those clips some opposition to the go big approach from republicans, but there's also some opposition from within president biden's own party. so what's the white house's plan to sell this relief bill this week? >> well, you saw last week how they were trying to do that and then by the end of the week it really came to this conclusion from president biden when he gave that speech, basically that they are going to go this alone without republicans. so they've continued toin cyst that they want it to be a bipartisan bill, but you are not seeing any congressional republicans sign on to this. whether or not that changes and they can win over some moderates now that president biden is conceding he doesn't believe that $15 medical minimum wage is going to be included, that's another question, but another thing they know is that this week all of the attention is going to be on president trump's impeachment trial and so while they've said it's not going to hin

i want to bring in now chief correspondent dana bash and white house correspondent kaitlan collins. dana, i'll start with you. can you believe senators -- i'm not surprised, but people with questioned. how can senators watch this video of themselves almost get killed by a blood thirsty mob launched at them by a twice-impeached president, now, and argue that he should face no consequences at all, dana? >> politics. >> yeah. >> the same reason that this happened in the first place, because of the silence of so many republicans in the face of the lie that the president began telling right after the election and frankly as we saw laid out in such an incredibly powerful way by the house managers today started to prime his supporters for -- even during the campaign before election day. so, that's the answer to that question. were they moved? they had -- if they have blood running through their veins, they have to have been moved in some way, shape or form. even if it was about something that happened far away from them, never mind it happened where they were actually sitting. and to them,

kaitlan, takeaways for you? >> reporter: i think, of course, top of mind for so many people in washington and throughout the country really right now is, what is happening with this pandemic relief package? what it's ultimately going to look like. of course, republicans want to know if they're sign on to it? no republican voiced support for the bill. earlier before jen psaki came out saw president biden meeting with senate democrats in the oval office. she noted, one, shot down the idea there are white house staffers holding president biden back from negotiating with republicans. you saw that implication from some republicans on capitol hill yesterday saying that president biden seemed more willing to negotiate than his staff did and maintaining a lot of top lines in his proposal. she said that is ludicrous. no one is holding him back or telling him what to do. of course, that comes amid the questions what the top line is going to look like, and he said earlier he did not agree with that $600 billion republican

go ahead, kaitlan. >> two questions for you, one on the minimum wage. you're saying it's up to the parliamentarian to make a decision whether that can be included in here. we know senator sanders said they're still waiting on that. but temperchnically the vice president could overrule the parliamentarian on this. it hasn't happened for a long time, but is that something the administration is continuing, would president biden want the vice president to override this package? >> i'm not aware of that being allowed. i would certainly take you at your word. i think our view is the parliamentarian is who is chosen typically to make a decision in a non-partisan manner in terms of what can be included in a package that goes through reconciliation as the proper package to journey through. >> reporter: so when the president said he did not think it would survive, who told him it wouldn't make it through, likely? >> the president was in congress for -- in the senate for 36 years. again, it still has not worked its way through the process, and that can take a bit

kaitlan, let's start with you. what are you hearing about the case the trump defense team plans to make tomorrow? >> expect it to be a lot shorter than what you saw from democrats. you saw today they finished up earlier than what we saw in the last impeachment trial. they took up a good portion of their time breaking it up from yesterday to today. we're not likely to see that from former president trump's team. i'm told that they expect to finish their arguments by tomorrow. there'd been some questions about that because, of course, one of his attorneys actually requested a delay of the trial so he could observe the sabbath. he said now that he's not going to need to have that delay but he'll just not participate in the proceedings at that time. but i'm told that they expect to make their arguments and finish them up by tomorrow. that would then punt us and move us on to the question session of this with the senators. but, of course, the question is, what are they going to say when they actually get on the floor? b

kaitlan collins, thank you so much. appreciate t. let's bring in the team to discuss. let's start with the balancing act for democrats. >> yeah. >> you heard kaitlan detailing the splits in the democratic party, specifically over the minimum wage and stimulus check, who should get them, what the threshold is for income. is there a risk here that biden's first big bet, this covid relief deal, ends up falling apart? >> there is a risk. and let me tell you, two words. joe manchin. joe manchin is somebody who is a very moderate democrat in west virginia. and he came out and said -- he got other moderates to agree with him to say, look, i don't want it to be 150,000. i would rather it were $100,000 top earning per couple, if you're to get these stimulus checks. now it's much more than that. i think there's going to have to be some give on the targeting of these stimulus checks, and the president has indicated that that might be okay with him. the minimum wage, you know, you heard bernie sanders say they're going to try to find a way to make this happen, but the president ki

our chief white house correspondent kaitlan collins is joining us right now. president biden's goal of passing covid relief with bipartisan support is facing a huge test right now. >> reporter: it certainly is. the white house said to not expect them to whack out of this oval office meeting with president biden and these republican senators with a deal in their arms. of course, that comes after these republicans put forward a much more limited plan from what you've seen from president biden. his is a $ 1.9 trillion plan. an effort from president biden to get bipartisanship here but also comes as democrats on capitol hill are paving the way to move forward with only democratic votes for this relief package. president biden sitting down tonight with ten republican senators amid contentious negotiations over his sweeping coronavirus relief proposal. >> no, no, i'm anxious to talk. >> reporter: without taking any questions on the talks, biden invited the gop group led by senator susan collins of maine after they proposed a $600 billion counter offer to his $1.9 tr

cnn's chief white house correspondent kaitlan collins joins me now. kaitlan, march 8th i know is the deadline to get this thing passed. what does the plan address specifically? >> reporter: well, that's what biden was talking about last night, the deadline for when he want to get this actually on his desk, the final text of it, so they are still crafting it to what it's actually going to look like. we know what he proposed and what more moderate democrats want to see in this and know what more progressive democrats have wanted to see in this. right now it's still the $1.9 trillion price tag. doesn't sound like biden will come down on this at all. you heard him last night saying this is the time to go big, not small. he wants to stay within the top line but there are several other aspects of it, of course, that he doesn't sound like they are going to change on either, the $1,400 stimulus checks and set the cap on those and biden does agree with the cap that democrats have set on that going forward to where if you're making $75,000 or $150,000 for coupl

kaitlan, president trump did not show a propensity for wanting to testify. was president, of course, part of his defense here is that this is not constitutional to be having this trial while he is no longer a president, and i know this news just broke that house impeachment managers want to call him to testify. but any sense of where he or his legal team might come down on this? >> reporter: so it's not clear. we've asked his legal team and those who are representing him right now if he has a response to this, so we're waiting to see what it is he's going to say. but we should note this comes amid a pretty turbulent time with his legal team, because it was just a little over a week ago when his entire legal team that was supposed to be defending him in this trial resigned and walked away from the team en masse. of course, there were several disagreements about that. one thing you noted was their effort to try to defend him on this, on the constitutionality of trying to remove a president from office once he's no longer in office. i was told by sources that t

cnn's kaitlan collins joins me now live. kaitlan, let's start with the actions around u.s.n moving forward? >> well, this is putting a freeze on that trump-led policy to start to redeploy those troops that were stationed in germany. about 12,000, roughly, of them, that the president wanted to redeploy to other countries, bring some of them back home. that's the last president, of course, that i'm talking about. now president biden says he's putting a freeze on that. and that's notable because this is a move that really irritated a lot of european leaders. this has kind of been seen as a cornerstone after world war ii. and so it also got bipartisan criticism from people who said it was a shortsighted move on donald trump's behalf. joe biden said that's not going to be happening. he's putting a freeze to that. that's a reversal of trump's policy. and really what you saw in that speech today was two weeks -- for two weeks we heard joe biden talk about his domestic agenda. now president biden is talking about what it's going to look like with him on the world stage. >> and kait

first, though, i want to get to cnn chief white house correspondent kaitlan collins. kaitlan, there is still this huge problem with communities of color both getting access to the vaccine, having difficulty with that, and also feeling uncomfortable taking it, even as they are sickened and dying in greater numbers. tell us what the vice president is doing to address this issue. >> reporter: well, i think what we're seeing, they're trying to approach both of those. we know the efforts they're making trying to ramp up the supplies of vaccines, because that is the number one issue, to make sure it's there for people to get. the other one they're making clear is probably a big challenge for the next several months is making sure people get it when it's available. today we saw the vice president go to a pharmacy in d.c., trying to talk to people about their fears about getting the coronavirus vaccine, citing her own experience with it, and, of course, talking to those minority communities and how important it is for them to get it as well. this is what she said earlier toda

kaitlan, other than the obvious price tag, what are the key differences between these two plans, andn says that they absolutely won't accept? >> well, the price tag is a big difference given how big the numbers are and how far apart they are. that's something that the white house focused on today, but even when you look inside these packages you can see some differences, though there's similarities in what they are laying out in the proposals and allotments for different areas are pretty different and one of them is the stimulus checks that, of course, we have seen laid out, the $1,400 checks in the proposal from the white house but what the republicans are suggesting are narrow concerns, heard some concerns over centrist democrats over what that look like and who exactly it would be that would qualify for them but what this group of republicans being led by susan collins by putting this forward is saying there is a path to a coronavirus relief bill that could get bipartisan support. it's not the one that the white house has laid out so far. what we're seeing hours ahead of this meet

our chief white house correspondent kaitlan collins is there. and, kaitlan, is this an event really to persuade people to get the vaccine? >> reporter: i think that that has kind of been what they've been highlighting all day. you saw the vice president earlier go into a pharmacy talking about the hesitancy that they've seen of people trying to get it. but they are also trying to highlight the fact that they are halfway to president biden's goal of 100 million shots in a hundred days. of course we're only on day 37. they are pretty much on track to meet that when they took office. they'll likely surpass what. what they were told about this event is that it's going to be less of a celebration, more of a somber moment. though they are trying to keep the focus on how they're ramping up vaccines, how they're becoming available when, they expect that time line to actually happen. so i think that's what you'll see from the president when you see him shortly. >> great. we'll look for that. let's talk about the confirmation clashes down the hill from yo

a lot to talk about with kaitlan collins. senator collins, you heard what she said.white house saying about this meeting? >> reporter: she sounded upbeat there and the white house said it was a cordial meeting. in this white house statement, they are saying president biden will not settle for a package that they say fails to meet the moment and the other key part of this readout from the white house that sticks out is every part of this rescue america plan that they've crafted and proposed is carefully designed to meet the moment, they say. what you can read into those words, anderson, is that there is not a lot in this package the white house wants to change. they said maybe they would, you know, come down a little bit on stimulus checks, there is room for compromise on there. but mentioning reckonciliation, they have the process on capitol hill to get democratic support from the proposal does not sound like this meeting will result and come closer to the republican proposal will look like given the white house noted how much -- how smaller it is, i guess you would

le let's go to kaitlan collins.resident biden tries to ignore the impeachment trial publicly, trump is paying very close attention. tell our viewers what you're learning. >> reporter: yes, he is and that is not a surprise. we are were told he was expected to watch from florida but he was not happy with what he saw today, especially with the first attorney bruce castor who was making an argument that was meandering at times and confused republicans who weren't sure where he was going with it and i'm told that president trump was also unhappy with that argument and borderline screaming according to two people who are familiar with how the president was responding to that. unhappy that they weren't pursuing the defense he believed they were going to make. of course often president trump is someone who wants people to deliver a full throated argument in his favor. and we did not see that initially from that attorney. so the president was unhappy. the former president, i should note, was unhappy with that. while the curr

joining me now kaitlan paulin what are you learning about his arrest. >>s in a police officer charged in the situation of obstructing law enforcement, obstructing other police inside the capitol. we have seen other police that have been charged related to the riot for taking part in the riot who had come to washington to support president trump. in one is a little bit different. although there are things about it that are quite similar to what we have seen in the way investigators have gathered evidence. in this the prosecutors gathered video from facebook he posted and then taken down. in the video it showed a group of people pushing towards a police officer line inside the capitol, someone yelling charge. and then they also were able to see joseph fisher's messages over facebook, which said, "the fbi may arrest you, lol," and he had no regrets. we could probably see him in court this week and we are not sure what the justice department will want to do, whether they want to keep him detained and what a judge would do in that case. we'll be watching. >>
