joining us now, kaitlan collins, a veteran of covering the white house. this is not the first time we've seen trump try to turn the tables on his opponents. is this a winning idea? >> it's a tactic he always uses. remember in the campaign lead up after access hollywood, the next debate, he brought bill clinton's accusers to the debate and kind of teased this debate he might be dropping out. he also accuses people of what they accuse him of doing. this is the argument president biden has been making before he was in the white house. he believes it drove him into the white house. it's one president biden plans to use as he's trying to seek a second term here. i think when trump is accusing biden of this, it's not just based on trump's words. we all witnessed as he tried to overturn the results in 2020 and it was very clear. you don't really have to look deeper into what his allies are saying. he was the one who tried to subvert democracy, but it is something they are trying to use. they're even going to the great lengths of printing out signs that say biden

i'm kaitlan collins and you're in "the situation room." our top story this hour, a new ruling in the multistate effort that is underway to disqualify donald trump from running for president again. michigan supreme court now weighing in, rejecting an attempt in that state to bar trump from the primary ballot. cnn's justice correspondent, jessica schneider, has been going over this decision. what reason did the michigan high court give for outright rejecting this case? >> yeah, the state supreme court really tossed this aside on procedural grounds rather than getting to the merits. they say they just didn't have the power to decide that question, whether trump should be on the ballot, because the case raised political questions. in this very short opinion, they also agreed with the lower court that the secretary of state in michigan just didn't have the authority to determine who was eligible to be on or off the primary ballots. so this was in a sense a win for trump. a minor win though since michigan's highest court really didn't go to the
