kaitlin, thanks for that.s we talk about being able to motivate and coalesce around a candidate, as i asked governor haley, it looks like the establishment is lining up behind donald trump. 26 senators all of the house republican leadership. why? >> to build off kaitlin's excellent reporting, to go back to that question you asked ambassador haley, where is the republican establishment. the republican establishment, my sources on capitol hill in the house and senate, say privately and sometimes even publicly they no longer run the republican party. the voters run the republican party. many of those voters are inclined toward former president donald trump. so inside the house you have the speaker behind the former president and in the senate, senate minority leader mitch mcconnell, for example, he has said repeatedly publicly he does not want to get involved in the republican primary race. so many donors who are sources of mine say they're waiting to see if haley can come within single digits of trump in new ham

cnn's kaitlin posis watching th for us. what is he facing? >> reporter: possible jail time.hey want peter navarro to be sentenced to six months in jail and fined $200,000. that's what they asked for steve bannon, the other person convicted of criminal contempt of congress for not showing up for testimony, not turning over documents in the house select committee's january 6th probe. with navarro, the justice department is asking for six months in jail and hoping he gets jail time, because they say he was completely defiant of this inquiry by congress. whenever congress subpoenaed him, he was never interested in negotiating with them to potentially show up for testimony. he never turned over a single document. at the same time, he was out there publicly writing a book about the 2020 election, talking about it. on navarro's side, he has a couple different claims he's arguing to the judge right now. one, that there was executive privilege. he believed donald trump did not want him to show up or turn over documents, and so that's why he didn't. he should have some sort of protect

joining us now cnn legal analyst joey jackson and kaitlin collins and kara scannell who was in court today as this all played out. what was it like? >> e. jean carroll is on the stand facing donald trump, just two tables away from her as she's beginning to tell this story, and she says almost off the bat donald trump assaulted me. he lied about it, and shattered my represent utakes and at that moment trump physically reacted shaking his head side to side face to say, no, and from there that just kind of began his reaction to her testimony. a lot of it involved him leaning over to his attorney alina habba whispering to her and making she is statements. that was not audible to us, the reporters in the courtroom that were sitting behind him, but at one of the breaks is this is when carroll's attorney brought it up they could hear sitting in front of trump and they were concerned that the jury could hear some of the comments he was saying including that this is fake, this is a con job and a witch hunt. so that was something that was raised to the jung once the jury was out of the courtro

i am kaitlin collins and this is the source. an astounding $83.3 million. that is on top of the $5 million he was already ordered by a jury to pay after he was found liable for sexual abuse in the 1990s today's number is four defaming her in 2019. here she is with her legal team today after the decision made by nine jurors. they deliberated for less than three hours. as you might imagine, trump is livid, not even staying to hear the verdict read. the first time he stormed out as e. jean carroll's attorney was making a closing statement. earlier tonight he took to social media saying, absolutely ridiculous. we will be appealing. he also tried to blame president biden, who i should note was not involved. trump's attorney was told she would be locked up if she did not settle down. >> i am so proud to stand with president trump, but i am not proud to stand with what i saw in that courtroom. don't get it twisted. we are seeing a violation of our justice them. we will immediately appeal. >> there is a lot to unpack in those comments. we will do that in just a mom

kaitlin joins us with more. what did you learn from the court filing in this special prosecutor's divorce case? >> this divorce case is becoming juicy. it is giving us insight into the district attorney, fani willis. that's why it is of interest. so jocelyn wade, the woman who two years ago said she was going to be divorcing nathan wade, the top prosecutor in fulton county, georgia. he also agreed to this divorce two years ago. now jocelyn wade is openly accusing nathan wade of having essentially a relationship with fani willis, the d.a. and she says that she wants to know more information from fani willis such as this information about trips that they may have taken that nathan wade would have been paying for. what he is making from the district attorney's office. because that's all relevant to the divorce. her argument is that they need to divide assets. she doesn't know how much money he has that he's making. so she wants information. she wants to even depose district attorney fani willis as soon as next week
