al jazeera, kamal is in one of the hardest-hit areas. kamal how accessible is your area to medical and rescue crews? >> reporter: it must be underthat these particular distri districts in all, at six districts have been hit, in very remote regions, because of the earthquake communication is effected, and the networks out here are not very good. the earthquake happened in the evening when it was dark, preventing any helicopters from carrying out reconnaissance missions. however, on first light the military helicopters have been spreading over the area checking to see what is happening on the ground. we have heard that a few hundred people have already been evacuated to the nearest hospitals. however, the assessment is still going on, and we're knot sure exactly what the death toll is, but there is widespread destruction in one remote district. >>> back here in the u.s., tropical moisture is keeping the weather in florida unsettled for yet another day, as parts of the west deal with september snow. >> september, we have a little bit of eve

kamal, the number that i have, 348 confirmed dead, 21,000 displaced. how desperate is the situation there? >> the situation is quite desperate because those numbers that you are getting from official sources, there are areas where no one has yet come to see and assess the damage. as you can see behind me these local villagers have been doing everything on their own. they're trying to dig out the republic with the--dig out of the rubble with the hope that they'll find someone who is missing. the most important thing is these people don't have shade. they don't have water or food. all their belongings are gone. the villagers are telling us that 500 bags of is now gone and they can't find that. they have to be swift, comprehensive because there are people sick and people who are still in a state of shock. >> i spoke to the head of operations for the national disaster management, and he said if there has been any delay in getting to this region it is because it is so remote, and army units are there. can you see their presence, and can you see what the gov

well, let's join kamal in the southern port city of karachi.t's see who he really is. >> just a correction. he is the younger brother of senior taliban commanders, who was killed in may 2007, and now he was arrested along the pakistan years ago. they released in total seven, and that would bring 233 the total number of taliban who have been released so far. the taliban also released primarily because it might help in kick starting the talks with the taliban, the government, of course, would have watched barader who was arrested in this city in 2010, but so far the government has not said anything about that. the foreign ministry has said earlier that all the prisoners in the pakistani custody would be released now. importantly as you mentioned, they may not be happy that they were not handed over to the authorities, but the senior adviser on foreign affairs has gone to kabul to say the modalities of such a release would be discussed. there is talk that this taliban might go to a third country where they could get into direct talks with them. >>

kamal, looks like a really tough challenge ahead.s it clear what those strategies are going to be? >> well, the government has been talking about the strategy by saying that they've got an excellent input from the intelligence agencies about the list of criminals who are involved in that activity in karachi but there are others who will also tell you that it is the political stakeholders that have foe fomented and will be using the paramilitary not the regular army which was a part of the movement, they wanted nothing short of that but the government is saying the military cannot be embroiled into a complex political issue. it warns all the political parties to be cooperating with the government, the intelligence agencies have told the government that some of those political parties are responsible for this particular problem, because they have armed wings and they have been told had a they should disassociate themselves from those armed groups. so indeed many challenges ahead and no quick solution in site. >> live for us from islama

. >> kamal hyder reports from where that quake first hit. >> even though the district of awaran and the adjoining areas saw 16 aftershocks after the deadly earthquake on tuesday, the government is now reporting that this particular earthquake was a new one. the epicentre this time, south-east of iran, and we are told that it was at a depth of about 14km, which would make is a considerably strong earthquake. we are getting preliminary reports that there may have been damages to villages in the adjoining districts as well. we are trying to assess the situation to see whether there are reports of casualties. so far we have been receiving reports of damage, but there is still no official confirmation. the earthquake was, indeed, felt in the city of karachi, where people were forced to come out of high-rise buildings, and the assembly of balochistan was meeting and had to be evacuated. indeed yet another powerful earthquake. it happened in less than a week from that earthquake in iran. >> voting has started in givenee in the first democratic -- guinea in the first democratic election since 1
