we had tornados from kansas, nebraska, tennessee and kentucky.s went all the way across the middle of the country. that was rare and how many and how intense they were. 30 preliminary reports of tornado tornadoes. 20 have been confirmed by people on the ground. 12 fatalities. the big one was the ef4 tornado. the scale goes up to ef5. this was harrisburg, illinois. when you talk about ef4, you are talking about houses losing roofs, their walls, almost completely removed from their slabs. trees snapped in half. and cared just tossed. 180-mile-per-hour winds will leave you with the devastation that you're seeing here. this happened at about 6:00 a.m. when a lot of people got little if any heads up on this storm system. not really dealing with severe weather now just showers and storms left down there in areas of atlanta. as far as tonight goes a new severe weather threat develops late tonight, but it's not until the daylight hours on friday that we expect another huge severe weather outbreak. another tornado outbreak. this is in the exact same areas

weather service has confirmed at least 16 tornadoes across the country through seven states, nebraska, kansas, missouri, illinois, tennessee, indiana and kentucky. over 300 reports of severe weather across the region described frightening details such as wind gusts of over 80 miles per hour and golf size hail storms. there were reports of power outages for thousands of people particularly in my home town of louisville. downed power lines, flash flooding were reported all across the state. news reports and accounts from my own staff tell me there's been considerable damage across kentucky including dozens of homes and businesses damaged and several people injured. two people in mccracken county near paducah were rescued from an overturned mobile home and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. from what we know at this point, however, thankfully it appears no lives were lost in kentucky. unfortunately the same cannot be said elsewhere as the severe weather that was that raged through six other states reportedly has claimed at least 12 lives. i join my colleagues from the affected states
