i'm meteorologist karen thomas. we're in a first alert weather day because we have rain, snow, slippery conditions and freezing temperatures later on tonight. that's the weather picture moving in. we're looking at the art museum right now. the calm before the storm, the low pressure system will be pushing in through the morning hours and bringing with it some accumulating snow is expected north and west of philadelphia. we can expect potentially slippery conditions across the area and then freezing and subfreezing temperatures overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. so here's the system on radar and we do have mostly cloudy skies out there right now and this system is just pushing very quickly now from the west and the southwest and you can see snow to the north and to the west of this system just pushing through harrisburg, central pennsylvania and pushing up here through northeastern maryland rain and icy mix. that will continue to move on through our saturday morning. temperature readings right now in and

first alert meteorologist karen thomas is tracking the wet weather. >> i wore the turtleneck. you need to bundle up if you're heading out this morning. actually any point on our saturday you want to bundle up. we're feeling more like winter time than springtime so we're in a first alert where are day because we're anticipating a storm system moving in today that's expected to bring with it rain as well as snow. we can expect accumulating snow north and west of philadelphia. slippery conditions every where across the delaware valley and we can look forward to subfreezing temperatures later on tonight. here's a look at the leading edge of the system as it pushes in from the west. you can see that there's all snow in this system to the north and to the west. you see the freezing line just pushing south, southwest of wilmington and then rain just to the south of that and so that is pretty much how it is expected to sort of unfold as we move on through our day. north and west of philadelphia can expect snow with a slight accumulation. slushy m

i'm meteorologist karen thomas. we're talking cold, spring freeze out there this morning as we are waking up sunday morning. temperatures are about 12 to 15 degrees lower than where we should be this time of year. can you believe it? look at the blue sky. we're waiting on the sunrise officially and it is really looking nice. high pressure has moved in in the wake of the storm yesterday. we're left with the cold air, though. freezing -- freeze warning in effect now until about 10:00 a.m. this morning for the areas in purple. so if you did any spring planting you're going to want to go ahead and if you haven't covered up the vegetation, it might be too late. you can just plant again. that's okay. 32 degrees by 7:00 a.m. 43 with sunshine at noon. so the blue skies and the sunshine will be really nice. we deserve it after yesterday, for sure. it isn't going to be warming up too much today. we'll have to wait to see when we get that warmup coming up in the 7-day forecast. i'll be back with that and a look at tomorrow's f

let's get right to our weekend weather with first alert meteorologist karen thomas. karen, as we've said, we have some changes in store. it will feel almost winterlike. >> my goodness. it really is a busy forecast. would you believe it if i told you we topped out at 78 degrees for a high temperature yesterday in philadelphia and we'll be lucky to get to 47 for a high tomorrow. so just a short period of time big changes on the way. what's happening right now, we have mild temperatures outside but as we look live to cape may, can barely tell that's cape may with light shower activity moving through the area as well. temperatures on the mild side just about everywhere. the cold spot poconos in the 40s but even for the poconos 44 is not doing too badly. close to 60 in southern delaware and close to 60 down at the shoreline. so there's 73 on thursday. there's 78 i was talking about. we'll get to about 63 for a high today. and 47 is our projected high for tomorrow. we see the rain. it's continuing to push up from the southeast so we are expecting on and off shower activity
