kari, how is it feeling? walking in, a little warmer than i like it to be dark and early in the morning. >> yeah, our weather is basically on repeat. our same mornings with clouds and warm weather inland and cool temperatures near the coast. looks mostly clear but there was a lot of smoke drifting through the east bay. as we go hour by hour and check out our temperatures we're going to start out with some upper 50s this morning and then around lunch time we're at 78 degrees in danville. 79 in san jose. we're still in the low to mid-60s along the coastline. as we go into the middle of the day our inland temperatures head back into the upper 80s and low 90s while we will stay in the 70s for much of the inner bay. this evening that fog rolls right back in. we'll do it all over again tomorrow as we stay in this weather pattern. we have seen a couple storm systems moves to the north of us, and it will create more of a breezy wind by the end of the week. no change in our temperatures. it will get hotter as the the

let's start with meteorologist kari hall with a look at the forecast that we can expect for today, karipecially with all the fires going on across the bay area. >>> yeah, we'll have some smoke coming in today. we'll have to monitor those conditions and hopefully more containment today as we take a live look outside as we start out in the south bay we've seen some drifts of smoke coming in. you can probably smell it right now. our temperatures are in the mid-50s. not much of a wind. we'll see it go from the mid-50s at 8:00 to the low 80s. it's going to be about normal for this time of year in terms of temperatures as we get a bit of a cooldown and some low to mid-80s for some of our warmest spots in the inland east bay and the north bay. we'll talk about that air quality as well coming up in the forecast and, mike, for the morning drive any issues heading out the door? >>> kari, last week at this time we had the metering lights turned on and the backup quickly form

we can smell the smoke. >>> meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect. kari? >>> good morning. the altamont pass is a windy spot and i was just looking at some of the wind sensors we have there. it showed a recent gust of 33 miles an hour. that's the reason why it's a perfect spot to have the wind turbines there. it has to funnel through the lower part of the valley and moving into the central valley. we also look at humidity in the area. 25% to 35% humidity and that also allows for that fire to grow quickly so that's something we'll be monitoring. hot temperatures this weekend. >>> a deadly shoot-out at the end of a long standoff in knightsen. a gunman was holding a woman hostage. a s.w.a.t. team was called in before 1:00 in the afternoon and then at 9:00 in the evening a gunman emerged from the house firing his shotgun at s.w.a.t. team members. three of them were hit. deputies shot and killed the man at the scene. our reporter pete suratos is trying to get the latest on their injuries and will join us with a live report in about 30 minutes. >>> continuing ou

meteorologist kari hall back in the driver's seat with a look at what we can expect today. kari?rise as we take a look over to pittsburg. it's a beautiful start to our monday morning. we're going to have some nice weather but in the south bay we see the low clouds moving in and that continues all the way over across the peninsula to the coast. but we've also had some drifts of smoke coming in due to the mineral fire and some new fires starting to pop up. so at least during the early hours we'll see some smoke moving into the north bay, the east bay as well as santa clara valley. the good news is it's higher up. it's not having as big of an impact on what we're breathing in right now. we look at the pattern that mineral fire just to the west of fresno moving that smoke into the bay area while the winds are light. but then once the ocean breeze picks up throughout the evening it kicks that smoke off to the east and it starts to improve some. not only will we see improvement in our air quality but we'll also have some comfortable weather. looking at highs in the low 80s. mid-70s for

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that. >> we just got word the earth is shaking a little bit in southern california. a 4.3 magnitude earthquake in the san fernando valley in southern california. we'll be watching for that. as we bring you back to the bay area we're starting out with some clouds and hopefully nothing to wake you up like that. we are looking at our temperatures that are going to reach into the mid-50s for the coast and upper 50s, i should say, for half moon bay. mid-60s for san francisco. you head across the bay, we have some 70s in oakland. some low 80s for san jose and for the tri-valley up to 90 degrees. 94 over to antioch and 98 in ukiah. you can see the spread in temperatures and we're basically in the pattern where we're seeing the same weather every day. we've been tracking the tropics. this is something florida will be watching. it's now tropical storm isaias traveling at 21 miles an hour. this will move right over the dominican republic and haiti and continue on its track. as we go into the weekend

let's say good morning to kari. she has a look at the forecast. >>> good morning. we are going to have another really nice day. some high clouds moving in yesterday and a little bit more humidity. we'll just do it all over again today. as we start out with a cloudy sky taking a live look outside in the south bay our temperatures will be in the upper 50s. we'll see it clearing out throughout the morning and slowly warming up as we reach into the upper 70s for the south bay, low 80s for the inland east bay, and then for napa expect a high of 79 degrees. we'll get a look at our microclimates and what's ahead coming up. mike, how is the early morning commute looking? >>> it's looking great but i have to remind folks about the closure for highway 101. we're looking at what you would expect from the big view even just mild slowing out of the altamont. we are looking in san francisco north 101. that's the direction where the alemany project has that full closure possibly for another half hour. but yesterday it took until about 5:30. tonight and tomorrow night will be the

"today in the bay" continues right now. >> the team is all back. >> mike is keeping his eye on traffic this morning. we want to start with meteorologist kari hall with a look at that forecast and that beautiful sunrise behind you, kari. >> yeah, my favorite time of the day. we're watching the sunrise around the bay area. we're taking it to morgan hill. we see a beautiful hugh hue in the sky. it's going to be a really nice day. actually a little bit cooler compared to yesterday because some of us were hitting over 100 degrees for those highs. so we're looking at mostly upper 80s and low 90s. and we're still going to have some hot weather farther to the north. so we'll talk more about that coastal fog, drizzle and inland heat that is coming up in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking for the commute? >> kari, most of the commute looks standard. we'll show where you there is an exception in the east bay here coming down in and out of the trivalley. southbound 680 on the map shows slowin

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that. kari, a little too early for the sunrise. clearly you have something beautiful behind you. what are you looking at behind you? i like your tour around the bay with all these photos you have for us. >>> we're checking out mountain view. this is actually a picture kris sanchez took one morning when she was reporting there and i use it as my background because it's one of my favorites. as we look at our temperature trend this morning we are going to see it starting out in the low 60s and then in the low 70s by lunch time, so we have a nice trend today with a wide range in temperatures from the low 60s near the coast to the mid to upper 90s for the inland areas. we'll have another look at this forecast coming up. mike, any more issues on the roads this morning? >>> kari, there's one that i thought was clear so let's take a look at the big view of the bay. everything is looking pretty normal from our view. green along the peninsula, the south bay, and looking south of the map. highway 17 near the summit. a disabled big rig. i thou

"today in the bay" starts right now. >>> and a very good wednesday morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. mike is keeping an eye on the commute this morning. first we'll start out with meteorologist kari hall with a look at the forecast for us. how is it looking for us today, kari? >>> it's going to be a nice day for the bay area. as we check out pleasant hill and our temperature trend for the morning as we get this wednesday started, it's going to be in the mid to upper 50s and then at 11:00 we're at 76 degrees, a really nice morning for us with a clear sunrise. we look at our high temperatures, slightly lower in a few spots with oakland today reaching 73 degrees. for san jose expect a high of 80. very comfortable. we're still reaching 91 in ukiah while san francisco will be in the mid-60s. wide range in temperatures today and throughout the next several days. we'll talk about that and a little bit warmer for the inland areas is coming

kari and i decided to be ladies about it. >> i respect that. >> right. and, you know your neighbors may complain, too. what's going on over there? i'm picking up the phone. >>> let's start out this morning and see what's going on outside as we see this fog and drizzle. it's still really thick over san francisco, and it's going to be like this throughout much of the day. we'll see a little bit of clearing here across the city, but this is helping keep all of the bay area much cooler today, a thicker layer of fog and an ocean breeze is making it even into the inland valleys. so we're look at temperatures a little bit cooler than normal with some upper 70s in the south bay and some low 80s inland. one thing i'm watching if you have some friends or family over the sierra, they've had thunderstorms popping up the past couple of days. we're going to also see that happening today, the monsoonal moisture moves over the sierra. and as we look at our weather pattern set up right now an area of low pressure just off our coast could draw in some of that monsoonal mo

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking it down. you can see a foggy start in san francisco. >>> yeah, it's a gray sky july as we take a live look outside in san francisco. it's misting, it's drizzling. this is going to last a little while longer. but this is all the way transporting that cool air into the east bay valleys, and so that's going to help cool us off today as we look at our temperature trend we're going to start out with the fog this morning. that will gradually clear off for most of us as our temperatures today in some of our warmer spots during the middle of the afternoon reach the low 80s. we'll talk more about this and what's ahead in the forecast and, mike, how is it looking right now for the commute? >>> it's looking pretty good. the backup at the bay bridge toll plaza. metering lights were turned on at 6:08 according to the log there. that's about ten minutes earlier than we see on a tuesday. there we go. lanes are moving but they are filled in all the way back. as this follow builds here we're looking at the san

kari hall is tracking the temperatures for us. and how is it looking out there, kari? >> a little bit cooler today. it's going to be nice. here's a look at our sunrise. we head over towards the east bay. looking at walnut creek. our morning shapes up. we'll be in the low 60s as you get ready to head out the door. it will warm up to day. it will a little more slowly. as a rule more time throughout the morning to get out and get in some of the outdoor activities. we'll be in the low 80s by noon. we look at oigh temperatures expected to still reach 58 for downtown san jose. palo alto reaching 82. upper 60s in san francisco. we'll talk more about what's ahead as we go throughout the week. how is it looking right now, mike, for drivers heading out the door? >> kari, we had a number of scattered incidents. we look at the map. we followed this car fire after a crash in the coopertino area. one lane affected by activity in the center divide. so watch for that. in the north bay eastbound 80, there is an earlier crash as well. a fire, i believe this was going on over in rio vist

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the weather out there. kari, talk to us about the wind. is it strong out there in the city today? >> we don't have much of a strong phing that smoke into the east bay. take a look at our live camera that we have right now in walnut creek. we've really been choked out in oakland and moving through some of the mountain gaps. as we look at our air quality, we are seeing those numbers that are very unhealthy. the sensor is picking up numbers at 165. that's in particulate matter. that's very unhealthy particles that are floating through the air. if you have breathing problems, it is really bad in west oakland. but elsewhere we are seeing some fairly good air quality. but still if you are in parts of the east bay, you are really feeling it right now and seeing it. now the wind is coming in from the west, pushing that smoke over toward concord over toward walnut creek as well as other parts of the east bay. and as we go into the rest of the day, even though the wind isn't that strong, it looks like it keep from mixing out very well. but as we our

meteorologist kari hall is here to give us what we can expect. and it looks beautiful behind you in san francisco. >> yeah. the clouds are peeling back from the city and staying along the coast. so we are getting some sunshine right now here in san francisco. as we head inland, we've also had some clearing. looking live right no next san jose as a lot of people are getting ready to head out for lunch you might want to take that outside and enjoy that with the fresh air. this is a little bit cooler than normal. for the north bay we're up to about 75 degrees in santa rosa. we'll talk about what's ahead leading into the rest of the week and the weekend coming up in a few minutes. >> looking forward to it. >>> new developments after the u.s. government has ordered china to close its consulate in houston. we're getting new video of that fire inside of that complex. this appears to show people burning documents there. the trump administration ordered that chinese diplomats, well, they must clear out by friday. it's unknown that what prompted this closu
