i want to bring in meteorologist kari hall. i know you've been saying we needed this rain but the question is, how long will it last throughout this week? >> it's going to be off and on for today and then moving out by tomorrow. but we've seen a lot of active weather here within the past hour or so, especially as we get these little isolated cells that drop some heavy rain as well as some hail. and we've had numerous reports around the bay area. take a look at what's moving just across the bay. moving toward san leandro and hayward, union city area. we're getting lightning right now. this may be the same cell that dropped some hail over the peninsula and is now moving across the bay and moving quickly out toward the east. as we head to the south bay, we are seeing that rain around sunnyvale. it's also showing some of that rain in parts of napa county just north of napa, we've seen the heavy rain moving off toward the east. so, any of these showers passing through today could bring lightning, hail and also some brief, heavy down

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that storm that's moving and kari, this is tough for anyone in the path of that storm right now. >> yes, absolutely and during the spring time we often see a lot of severe weather across the south, as you start to get some of those cold fronts moving through. we can see some of the storms that are still affecting southern parts of alabama and georgia, and now moving over toward south carolina, so that's something we'll be watching here for our friends and family off to the south, as we get a look at our start of the day here in the bay area, very nice and quiet day ahead for us, as our temperatures start out in the low 40s. you can see the warming trend we'll have today, if at 1:00 you're outside, it will be 66 degrees, and then we'll reach into the low 70s for today. it gets even warmer this weekend, we'll talk about that, and also some of your weekend plans where you may be headed, that forecast is coming up in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking headed to work this morning? >> kari, we still have an issue for folks headed in to san franc

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that. kari? >> good morning. we're going to have some much warmer temperatures today. in fact, some of us may be near some record highs. as we go into the afternoon, it won't be as windy with that warmer air but we will have a cooler weekend headed our way. let me show you what i'm talking about, taking a look at these highs today reaching 80 in oakland and 83 in san jose. even san francisco will get in on the 80s today, and we're going to see more of this for tomorrow, so i'll have more on that in the forecast, it's coming up in a few minutes. mike, do you have any problems for the early morning commute? >> i do. i can't remember where i put my shorts, i got to find those. short pants i mean. look out on the roadways, it is no problem right now. we'll see more of it later, getting all the way up to the bay bridge, a smooth easy drive on the approach. a little slowing past gilman, there may be an overnight crew starting to move around a bit so keep that in mind. i'll check out a crash i heard about over in near s

meteorologist kari hall is here to break it all down for us. kari? >> yeah. this is moving a little slower and also giving us a little bit more time to prepare for that rain that will be moving in. we can see all the sunshine as we take a live look outside in san jose, and we will have the time to cover the patio furniture, get those garbage cans moved in and also we'll see those temperatures only reaching into the upper 50s for parts of the south bay. but the north ba will see that rain a little sooner. we can see this storm system as it approaches. it will bring in the possibility of very unsettled weather, including the the possibility of thunderstorms, small hail. we'll see that for tomorrow. first, starting out with some rain as it approaches parts of mendicino county as well. you'll be able to track that as well if you have the nbc bay area app and get views of what storm ranger is showing right down to the street. as we go through the timeline, by about 8:00, we're starting to see more active weather popping up. that will continue in the next couple of

>> kari, it's friday. very little traffic and to answer your question, very few problems, but let's look at the bay bridge toll plaza camera, because they did turn the metering lights on, 6:29, so seven minutes ago and the middle lanes are filling in coming off the maze. the berkeley curve no problem. 880 overcrossing no problem. light traffic but as we look at the map the backup will form with the metering lights back. the slowing on the san francisco side the decline likely why they turned the metering lights on. they want to keep everything moving smoothly in case there's an issue. the altamont pass sees a little more traffic as the issue cleared from tracy off of 205 and a roadside fire 101 near mckee and that's what is marked at the bottom of the screen, a warming fire, no injuries, no structures. back to you. >> thanks, mike. >>> this next story weird, cool or crazy. new video unveiling a new york mystery. look what she's doing. removing the mirror in her bathroom, only to find an entire apartment on

kari? >> it's going to be heating up today.what we've been talking about, a little bit of a taste of summer for us but at least we have the next few hours with some cool temperatures, maybe now is the time to open up the windows, let the house cool down before it heats up and we'll see those temperatures going up in san jose from the upper 40s to the 60s, and then eventually making it into the low 80s today. take a look at our forecast highs, and compare that with today's record high temperature and when we look at santa rosa, we may be one degree shy of a record high temperature but set a new one in concord, san francisco may tie the record high and looking at oakland, we'll be very close as well as close to that record in san jose. as we go in through this forecast, we are going to see high pressure moving fairly quickly, so we've got today and tomorrow with some hot weather but then it cools down for the weekend and maybe even a storm system approaching that could bring us some more clouds. much cooler temperatures and then

oh, yes, meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that. kari?be moving faster to get out of those showers that are going to be popping up here and there as we go into the next couple of days. right now, it's all dry but we can see the storm system that will be approaching and bringing in some cold and wet weather in our forecast. let's at storm ranger once again, it's a dry start to our morning, but it's ready to pick up on the downpours that will be very hit or miss, as we look at our forecast. so make sure you have the storm ranger on the app, as well as the nbc bay area app. you'll be able to get views of what storm ranger is picking up on, because not all of us will see the rain and here we are at 2:00, 3:00 in the afternoon. some of the showers quickly passing by parts of the north bay, and then as we go into tomorrow, there may be a better chance of some of our south bay and tri-valley microclimates getting in on some rain, but it's once again going to be coming in waves, and no widespread really heavy rain here, but also the chance that t

kari? >> it's going to be another beautiful day. make some plans to get outside if you are able to go hiking especially near the coast, it's going to be nice and comfortable, and as we check out our peninsula forecast, starting out with some mid-40s this morning, but reaching into the upper 60s for today, some of us in the forecast will reach into the mid 80s. we'll talk about when and where, that's coming up in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking for the morning commute? >> we had a slow drive in san jose, it's greatly improving in the last few minutes as we look at the map, the crash has been cleared from all lanes and sogo disappeared. you're at speed. north 101 blossom hill past hellier the earlier crash cleared. rest of the bay recovery north 101 past whipple, perhaps some construction. not a lot of traffic just yet. >>> a live look right now at two of the bay area's busiest bridges. if you've been driving at all recently you may have noticed the commute is starting to look a little more like pre-pandemic days. >> "today in

meanwhile kari hall is tracking are the wind out there. carra in. >> yeah. i had to go out there and pick up some things on the pat crow that got knocked over with a high wind gust. let me show you some of the high wind gusts that we've measured in the past 24 hours in santa rosa. a gust of 28 and 34 and san francisco getting a wind gust of 41 and i've seen some of the gusts in the mountains. over 50 miles per hour. mt. diablo and mt. st helena and as we get a look at san jose here's the wind forecast for the rest of the afternoon. we're still going to have the breeds winds at 20 to 25 miles per hour and that's as our temperatures head up into the upper 60s so we do still have some nice temperatures but the wind is what makes it uncomfortable at times, so we're continuing to watch this as well as a warmup in our forecast. i'll have more on that and a look ahead to the weekend that's coming up a little bit later. marcus. >> thanks, kari. >> former donald trump attorney sydney powell is asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit brought against her by dominion voting
