kari, what are we expecting from temperatures today? >> looks as good as it can get for the bay area. mist and drizzle over emeriville, and we see a strong influence over the marine layer over the coast, and it has been mild for the inland area. this is what we are expecting again today and no significant change and we will have an update coming up in a few minutes. how is it looking for the morning commute? >> santa rosa, there's a crash. eastbound highway 12 and getting to highway 101. there's still crash activity. east bay will continue over highway 101 and that's okay. and that's the longer drive, folks getting through the north bay. >>> a live look at the manhattan district attorney office, and this is where the trump organization's chief financial officer, allen weisselberg, turned himself in. it's an off-the-books compensation issue. >>> happening now evacuations under way across parts of northern california this morning, and as crews battle three wildfires. the largest is the lava fire by mt. shasta. investigators say the fire w

right, kari? >> we have one last day of some of the nice weather that we have enjoyed from the past few days. looking at the temperatures in dublin as you get ready to head out for work it is all good and right now in the mid-50s. will see clouds linger and then starting with clouds keeps the temperatures from heating up quickly. we have some upper 60s for oakland. low to mid-80s for the east bay and south bay and upper 70s in san jose but 87 today in morgan hill and santa rosa and napa reaching 80 degrees and will talk about how hot it gets. that's in a few minutes. mike, any problems? >> the crash we have over here. sick more valley road off south 680. reports that the car was speeding before that fender bender. light traffic. we're also looking toward 280 at 380. a crash there. should be at the shoulder. we'll track that. registering just below the limit. a yellow stretch. down the peninsula. we'll double check that. nothing in the report so far. over to the peninsula westbound through this kin

kari? >> yeah. this is not just a california problem. even areas where we get water imported from other states it's bone dry as they're dealing with the highest level of drought across the region. the dark shades of red shows the drought we are seeing right here in parts of the north bay and the east bay. it's all the region and our reservoirs continue to deplete as we've seen extremely low reservoir levels across the bay area especially in the south bay. take a look at some of these numbers where we are seeing some of the water sources that we have here locally now only at about 24% of the capacity for our historical average. we're seeing this across the state as these water levels drop very rapidly and we're going to be dealing with some hot temperatures which we know increases our fire danger and there's not going to be much water to get to try to put out those fires. that's going to be a really high concern especially as we go deeper into our fire season. that's something we're watching and we'll talk about those temperatures in a fe

kari right now. we keep talking about these bute with traffic. >> yeah, nothing like a tightrope, but we will look at the toll plaza. look at that. it goes over the water with a big number of lanes, and that's good stuff. a little slowing still. this is a gradual build as we are going westbound. this is not a problem. yesterday the metering lights were turned on a little earlier and disrupted the pattern and that was the only thing causing the backup early at the toll plaza. right now it's an easy drive. highway 4 showing a bit of slowing now. we added these numbers up a little more. highway 4, wasco, a smooth drive. it's a pleasant drive right now, kari. what do you have for us? >> yeah, we're starting out foggy with a live look outside in san francisco. you see mist and drizzle here and will get clearing this afternoon. temperatures slightly warmer. it's also cooling off the immediate areas near the coastline, the inland valleys. it's going to be hotter. look at santa clara valley, mid-90s in morga

kari what do we have in store as far as temperatures go as well? >> yeah, we've seen in some spots some fog and mist and drizzle and it is mostly clear as the sunrise in walnut creek. a much cooler day as our temperatures go from the mid to upper 50s to the low 80s in some spots reaching up to 78 degrees in san jose. 87 in martinez but look at the difference we'll have in spots like farther to the north. ukiah will reach 101. we'll talk about this spread in temperatures coming up. >> we see more slowing than i expected to see on a monday at this time. there may be early traffic. the google plex in mountain view and expansion throughout san jose. there may be more traffic building over the week in toward august as we look at some folks returning to work. closures for north 242 up until possibly 10:00 a.m. the counter commute comes this way out of concord. your alternate would be north 680 to westbound highway 4. it's not that much longer and it's clear. that closure will the bay bridge toll plaza without any slowings. >>> richard branson is back and

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking those temperatures for us. kari, what are we expecting today? how is it looking out there? >> it looks pretty good. temperature wise we're starting to cool down. our air quality and what we're seeing with all of those fires burning, the butte fire still very much putting a lot of smoke into the atmosphere. where that smoke travels, it's away from the bay area. so we are still looking at some good air quality today. a lot more people are getting out and enjoying it, but moderate air quality for the coast and the bay. pretty good elsewhere across the bay area. just keeping that in mind as you're heading out the door this morning, antioch with temperatures in the low 60s and a mostly clear sky throughout the morning and warming up into the afternoon as here we head back into the 90s. we'll get a look at our wide range in temperatures coming up. mike, how is it looking for the commute around the bay area? >> it's looking like the sensors did tell the tale, the crash or disabled vehicle has been cleared from highway

we want to bring in meteorologist kari hall to look at all of this.i, what kind of air quality are we talking about when it comes to the areas near the wildfires? >> right now it looks a little hazy as we get a look at tri-valley from dublin and a little bit of a brown tint to the air. we have a computer model that can model in the wind direction and where the smoke from those fires are going so we do see will 'light shade of blue and the smoke travels away from the fires, the three large ones in northern california, but also there's one off to the south and east of here in the sierras. as we can so, the smoke does get close and we'll see in parts of the east bay, the tri-valley as well as parts of the north bay some brown tint to the air, even going into tomorrow, but then as we look at some of the surface smoke we've seen a lot of this smoke staying away from the bay area, so as of now the smoke is higher up in the atmosphere, but that could all change if we see some nearby fire spark over the next couple of days. marcus. >> all right. thanks, kari.

good morning, kari. >> yes, it's going to be much warmer through the next few days. we're enjoying today, while we're still getting some of those cooler temperatures. let's get a look at our high temperatures, in the south bay reaching 80 degrees today. you can still see the fog over the peninsula as we reach into the mid-70s here and some low 80s heading towards the try -- tri va up to about 70 degrees. comfortable today, but then we have this. all these bright colors show where we will have excessive heat warnings going up, mostly for central valley areas to the east but it will include the far north bay as well as solano county as our temperatures there are expected to reach well over 100 degrees. i'll be tracking this. we'll talk about what most of us in the bay area will see going into the next few days, coming up in the full microclimate forecast. >> looking forward to it, kari, thank you. >>> tropical storm elsa making the path up the gulf coast, expected to make landfall well north of tampa bay in the big bin portion of the state. >> people in the storm's pat

kari, these conditions right now, pretty ripe for a fire. we've had such dry vegetation and things can change very quickly. but temperaturewise it's been cooler. but the wind speeds are 22 miles per hour. so that could fan the flames of anything that gets going. it can make it move very quickly across some of those extremely dry areas. but we are once again seeing some cooler temperatures along with those breezy winds. skies are clear, and right now temperatures across the bay area are fairly cool but starting to warm up for the inland east bay, and a sign that also the relative humidity levels will be dropping here soon. so hopefully they do get some containment on that in the next few minutes because, as we go throughout the rest of the day, temperatures will be warming up, and it's possible that that fire could spread very quickly. so of course we'll continue to monitor that. marcus? >> that's what we don't want to happen. kari, thank you. >>> go, jeff, go, mark, go, waly, go, oliver, you are going to space. >> our other top story right n

our meteorologist kari hall is tracking our bay area forecast and what you can expect. this is "today in the bay." a good morning to you on this tuesday, thank you so much for making us apart of your morning. >>> state health leaders switching gears on plans for masks. late last week health officials issued students did not have to wear a mask and yesterday they reversed their guidelines. this could get confusing of the back and forth. >> reporter: good morning, it is a little bit confusing the taking things back in just a step. the cdc released their guidelines on friday. their guidelines were cut and dry. things got a little confusing. the state released their guidelines on monday afternoon explaining masks required for all students. unmasked students were prohibited from campus. hours later this was released. ensuring schools fully reopened for in person instruction. according to the l.a. times, the spokesperson for the governor's office confirmed the phrasing of excluding students would be dropped. discretion will be left to local officials about how to enforce that

. >> and meteorologist kari hall is here. >> we are going to have some cooler temperatures and all thanks to the fog that we are seeing right now. as we do take a live look outside in san francisco, still foggy even as we approach the noon hour. that fog lasting a lot longer than we've seen in the past few days but already clear as we take a live look outside in walnut creek. we are going to possibly have some impacts due to those oregon wildfires into the bay area. this shows the near surface smoke. and i'm stopping the time line early tomorrow morning. it is possible that some that smoke may come down the coast and get brought into our marine layer. so when we start out with some clouds and fog during those early hours, we may have some smoke mixed in as well. it could clear as we go into the afternoon, especially for areas away from the north bay. but then going into the rest of the week we'll have to monitor our air quality as we see several of these fires burning across the region, especially as we talked about with the new fires and some of the larger ones that are closer here in ca

let's check the forecast, a little cooler today, kari?yes, a little cool for our in land areas have been dealing with the sweltering temperatures. we also keeping an eye on our a quality as we are seeing some smoke starting to move in. we are starting off with those clouds and fog this morning. some of the most unhealthy air quality will be in the coast and bay. we'll see the fog lingering longer. more people are enjoying more time outside, thanks to the cooler air, the seven-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen. as we zoom in in our south bay high temperature for today reaching into the upper 70s and low 80s and very comfortable. we are also going to see a wide range of temperature in the east bay. check out hayward reaching 70 degrees. upper 60s in vallejo. 92 today in brentwood and the tri-valleys. >> mid-70s for palo alto, 61 degrees. san francisco in the upper 50s today. low 60s downtown and in the mission district. nevada reaching 78, clear lake is reaching 97 degrees. napa today in the mid-70s. we are also keeping an eye

want to check in with kari who has a peek at our weekend forecast. extended with weekend. >> yeah. it's going to be wide range in temperatures so you can kind of pick what kind of weather you want to see. if you're going to yosemite this weekend, it's going to be in the low 80s for highs. pretty nice. but watch out for some of nature's fireworks. we could see some thunderstorms popping off tomorrow especially during the afternoon. it does look much better, clearer for the fourth of july with highs reaching into the low 80s. planning to head to the coast, santa cruz beach boardwalk is looking nice with a high of 73 today. upper 60s throughout the weekend. at times the fog and clouds will be lingering for a little while longer. we've been keeping an eye on the forecast for the san francisco fireworks and it looks pretty foggy. we're not going to see that clearing out. temperatures at about 60 degrees at the time of the start of the fireworks. looking at pleasant hill's forecast, we have events going on all day here it's going to be so nice too especial

at least we have cooler temperatures today, kari. >> we do. and it's been so nice and refreshing. we've also seen the sky clearing in the south bay, but still a little bit of haze which we do typically see as the fog clears. but also watching that air quality because of all of the fires across the region and the smoke that we are getting near the coast and the bay is actually coming in from oregon kind of trapped in that marine layer. so we are seeing moderate air quality there. it's just over that threshold of 50 when they do the count of how much particulate matter is in the air. if you do have breathing problems, you do need to limit your time, especially near the coast. as we take a look at where we are now with these temperatures, we are in the upper 50s, upper 60s in oakland, hayward, and we're seeing some upper 60s down the peninsula. and where the sky is clearing in san jose, we are now at 70 degrees, very comfortable. we're warming up in brentwood now at 76 degrees. check out the seven-day forecast. 82 los gatos. east san jose reaching up to 78 degrees. so we are going to

kari, from time to time i've seen low clouds drifting through.the view is clear there. >> we don't see as much fog as we're starting out at the bay bridge. we've seen it over the golden gate bridge and it's all a part of the system we are seeing. we've been tracking it with storm ranger as it approached from southern california now into the central coast. we can see some of those showers right now over parts of the santa cruz mountains. mostly some light rain. we've been watching this because there was a chance we could see isolated lightning strikes and it would not be good news because that could, of course, move fires. all of the lightning activity so far has been to the north of us and moving away from us mainly heading closer to eureka as we see the surge of showers and thunderstorms off the coast moving in that direction. moving away from us will be the trend for this whole system overall as we've seen the slight chance of some rain. here we are at 10:30 this morning and the models are putting a chance of showers near the coast and in parts
