meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring what we can expect weather wise today and kari, you saids going to shape up to be similar to yesterday? >> yes, it starts out cool and then warms up quite a bit and as you're heading out the door, getting to work in oakland, we're in the low 50s. you can see some clouds to start out. as we go into today, we see the temperatures headed for the mid-60s by lunch time. when we compare our high temperatures today to what's normal for this time of year, in santa rosa, the average high temperature for the end of april is about 71 degrees. we're headed up to 77 today. in concord, also a little bit warmer than what we normally see, reaching 78 today. 64 in san francisco. oakland reaching 71, and san jose will be about six degrees above average but we do have a cooldown headed our way tomorrow. unfortunately no rain, though. we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. >>> mike is giving you a look at where you could save a little money. >> trying to save a little money, a break in monday morning. sklar $5.35 a gallon at the arco on montere

meteorologist car kari hall hasn talking about that. >> when you look at the numbers for the northern sierra, 28% of the normal amount. and this kind of takes into account that it is april. and that we have such low sierra snow. the statewide average is about 38% of the normal amount. that's what we expect for them to say as we've seen the driest conditions, the lowest snow pack we've had in the sierra in about the last 70 years. this is historic what we're seeing right now. as we take a live look outside, more sunshine across the south bay. we'll continue to see that sun into the rest of today. warming up our temperatures, heading out to the farmer's market in downtown san jose, low 60s. we'll continue to warm up. we'll be at about 72 at 2:00 and eventually reaching the peak of those temperatures for 3:00 to 4:00 before it starts to go back down. as we look at our microclimates, highs reaching into the 70s today. nice and comfortable. then for tonight, we're seeing those lows in the mid to upper 40s for the microclimates. looking ahead, we'll see a strong area of high pressure buildi

kari, we're see tt rain right now? >> yes, and we are seeing it covering many areas around the bay area except for san jose on you can see what's covered in green on storm ranger closer lo north bay, it's been raining for hours. at this point it's been very light across many of our microclimates. heading over toward the east bay, once again a very light shade of green indicating light rain. and it's just now starting to sprinkle a little bit in the south bay, but it took so long to get here, this weather system is moving very slowly. this will have a bigger impact for the north bay. really good news to see the drought and rain coming in because of the drought monitor update this morning. as we looked at what happened last week and the changes that we had today with a lot more red spreading into the central valley, indicating that we just haven't gotten enough rain this year. we'll take a closer look at this this year, the snowpack, and talk about a bigger storm system coming our way this weekend. >>> just in this midda

let's check in with meteorologist kari hall after yesterday's rain. it was great to see, it was enough to water the line so that we can turn off the sprinkler for a little while. look at the totals, mount tam over 1.25, and in mount diablo 0.3. those are some of the upper elevations. as you head down in the valleys it was more like 0.25 or 0.1 of rain, but looking at how that compares to catch up to normal, santa rosa we need over 7.5 inches to get our normal amount of rainfall. oakland needs over 1 inch of rain, san francisco over 3 1/2 inches of rain to catch up to normal. livermore over 2 inches and san jose we need over 5 inches of rain just to get to our normal amount. as we look at our dry forecast today, it's going to be much cooler. a lot of people on spring break this week. if you're going to half moon bay, make sure to wear layers because it's only going to reach into the 50s and low 60s and we are going to keep gusty winds. tomorrow the rain returns for just parts of the bay area. we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. how i

kari has a look at our forecast. >> we've got all kinds of weather in our forecast.ing today, summer tomorrow, next week winter. you want to make sure you're along for the ride. temperatures in palo alto, as you step out the door, around 50 degrees. you can see the trend as it warms up nicely by late morning into the afternoon. when we take a look at our high temperatures today compared to what's normal for early april, we are going to go above that by a few degrees with a high of 73 in santa rosa, 71 in oakland and 73 in san jose. this starts the warming trend, but it really starts to ramp up tomorrow. talk more about that coming up. mike, what's going on for the commute? >> you see the live shot of the bay bridge and we'll talk about the volume. in the east bay we have an overnight closer. first we're going to warn folks about this. we know there's a scheduled closer for the pesey tube. there's scheduled maintenance there and that should be opened by 5:00 tomorrow morning. you can use the bridges to the south. just keep those in mind, regulars through alameda into
