we turn to you, kari. >> still a little cool out there. we have a lot of clouds rolling by, so that's keeping the temperatures down. that's extending through the east bay. this will clear out for a sunny afternoon, and we'll most likely see the sunshine from noon to 1:00, and it's breezy with those winds picking up at 14 miles per hour. look at those afternoon temperatures, still nice, no air conditioning needed, and we are going to try to take it all in while we can because we know that a warm-up is on the way. take a look at these high temperatures reaching into the low to mid-60s for today, 71 in santa rosa, while san francisco will be in the upper 50s, and that warming trend begins tomorrow with a few of our inland spots just a little bit warmer, but we'll definitely start to feel that on friday as we head to the low to mid-80s. we'll talk about the weekend forecast in a few minutes. >> thanks, kari. >>> let's take a live look in san francisco, where the new chinese railroad workers museum just opened this morning. this is in chinatown

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that for us. how has that been? >> it's been very hit or miss with the showers, and it is approaching the south bay area, so we're waiting to see. but it's already moved through san francisco, parts of the east bay, and is now working its way farther to the south. we're already seeing some clearing here in the city as those clouds continue overhead. it's all a part of this system that's been bringing some off-and-on rain across parts of northern california, and we're also seeing some of the wet weather moving into the east bay, especially just south of the concord area, moving into the tri-valley. but we're also seeing it approaching the south bay, but you can see that not everyone is seeing the rain at this point. hit-or-miss showers will be with us until the next couple hours. then as we go into this afternoon, some peeks of sunshine, and then we go into drier conditions, but our temperatures today much cooler than normal, only reach spoog the mid-60s, even upper 60s for the south bay. a big warm-up the ahead as w

meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring it. we're seeing a little rain coming down there. >> yeah, it's a pretty steady rain in the north bay and we'll continue to see more of it as we head throughout the morning. it all depends on where you are because most of us are seeing downpours, but there's a little bit of a break for much of contra costa county and it's starting to fill into alameda county as well. as you head out for work in mountain view, it's going to be raining and that steady rain continues into the next several hours, adding onto the rainfall totals we already had. and there was a few isolated thunderstorms yesterday, but i do think today it's more of the rain variety as we are going to see the possibility of some more rain heading into the afternoon, as well as the evening. so this is holding on a little bit longer. we'll talk about what else to expect in our forecast coming up. >>> mike, you have a look at some gas prices around the bay area. >> word of caution, use the gas sparingly because it is wet around the

meteorologist kari hall of course has been tracking that. kari, a warm-up for the weekend and something for mother's day. >> we'll have some warmer temperatures but definitely for the inland areas. in antioch right now, it's 72 degrees as you get ready to head out for lunch, and we'll reach into the low 80s for the rest of today with a mainly calm wind and more sunshine. it will definitely be warmer compared to yesterday around the bay area except for the peninsula as well as the coastline. we're only going to reach into the mid-60s for today. for santa rosa, we're look at a high of 83 degrees compared to the 73 in oakland, 71 in hayward, and 81 in morgan hill. it will really depend on where you are. if you are going to the coastline and in san francisco, it's going to be really comfortable compared to the inland heat we are going to see with martinez reaching 91 tomorrow and 97 in fairfield. really hot there with some low 90s for morgan hill and san martin. going toward mather's day as well, it's also going to be well above normal, not much

meteorologist kari hall joins me now. you've been tracking this big melt for some time now, with the summer temperatures they are already heading up, especially in the central valley area there. i mean, we've really got to keep track of the situation. >> absolutely, because as the uc berkeley central sierra snow lab measured more than double their usual amount of snow. they're saying about 34% of that has melted in the past five weeks, some of it e evaporates, some soaks into the ground, some flows down the sierra into those rivers and makes them flow quickly and causes it to be dangerous. so over the next several months, weeks, the yosemite region will have the highest impact as we go toward the next couple of weeks. the tahoe region a little bit later in the month of may, and that will create some dangerous conditions for rivers, waterways, as they're just saying stay out of it because it may cause a shock. we don't know, also, what it has picked up along the way. so looking at the merced river in yosemite, here is a lo

meteorologist kari hall has a look at that. >> it's been s so nicee outside. yesterday therere was a cooldow but it did get really chilly in the evening once the wind picks up. we're going to see the same thing today. as we're starting out with clouds this morning, we're going to see it gradually clearing up, going from 55 in san jose this morning at 8:00 to about 59 degrees at 10:00. a slow warm-up as we briefly touch the low 70s and then come right back down into the 60s going into this evening. so we're only looking at a high of about 73 degrees today, 73 in dublin and also 73 in martinez. a lot of these temperatures a little bit lower than what we typically see for the end of may, and this is what we'll see for a few more days. we'll talk more about that coming up. >>> mike, you were tracking a small fire off of 101. >> just off the shoulder here, 101 northbound, right around capitol expressway near the on and off-ramps. it should be out in the next couple of seconds. no slowing past the scene and no closures associated with that. we'll track the rest of t

let's check in with meteorologist kari hall.itoringt storm for us. >> it's sitting right over the bay area and spinning slowly, so we're getting these waves of showers coming through. you can see what i'm talking about as we put this in motion, just looping the past three hours with the activity that's rotating around the center of low pressure, and one minute it's sunny, the next minute it's starts raining, then it clears up again. this is going to be with us for a while. some of the heavier rain has been moving over parts of the peninsula into the south bay, starting to rotate its way into the inland east bay. and we go into the afternoon with a little bit more energy, so there is a possibility that we could see some thunderstorms starting to pop in some of these areas, especially as we get that sunshine in between and that kind of avids to more of that energy. heavy rain near 101 near morgan hill making its way to the south bay. spotty showers in the peninsula and into the north bay. so, we'll be tracking this and talking about that chance of thunderstorms in the forecast coming up

kari has been warning us about it. she's been tracking this weekend warm-up for us, just in time for mother's day. >> and, kari, you and laura bringing the sunshine. >> yeah, we found it. >> that and the warriors. >> that, too. >> we're going to have some great and sunny weather throughout the weekend. it's also going to be warming up a lot more quickly in the valleys. if you're in a spot like san francisco, you're keeping the nice and mild weather. it's a clear start this morning there, and we'll see a few clouds drifting by through 8:00. and then we'll become mostly sunny heading into noon, but look at the trend here, going from low 50s to low 60s. that's going to be a big difference compared to what we'll see in some of the inland valleys, reaching into the low 80s, like morgan hill headed for 81 degrees, in the north bay upper 70s and low 80s. tomorrow the temperatures really spike and air-conditioning will be blasting in the east bay, as well as the north bay, reaching 93 in santa rosa and 97 in fairfield. we'll t

first, let's check in with kari. she has a look at our forecast. what kind of warm-up are we expecting? >> it was warm in the valleys yesterday but not so much the coast and parts of the inner bay. this is why we've seen the coastal area staying cool. you can't even see driving across the golden gate bridge. that's going to linger for a while today as we take a look at what to expect, temperatures in the low 50s right now. it's going to be slow to come out of those 50s. at 1:00 we're starting to see a little bit more sun peeking out, but it will only reach 64 degrees. for san jose, expect a high of 80 degrees and some low 80s for concord. overall, comfortably warm, even for the inland areas as temperatures come down a few more degrees. >>> mike, how is the wednesday commute shaping up? >> like a wednesday. it's great but we know that means a heavier volume of traffic. south bay getting a break and the next one will kick in in about 20 to 30 minutes. 680 at 84, i'm not exactly sure, but i'm hearing something in that region. we'll double-check on the

kari has a look at our forecast. it's been mild lately, very nice. >> it's been nice for the inland areas. i know that may gray has been doing its thing in san francisco and along the coastline and you would like to see a little more of this, the sunshine we're seeing over the south bay. we're going to see it clearing up a lot more quickly in the inland valleys, but also going back to some cooler-than-normal temperatures. we're at 53 degrees in san jose, we'll be at 62 degrees at 10:00 and at lunchtime it's 67 degrees, only reaching 73 later this afternoon. mostly upper 60s and low 70s for today as the sky clears out and then we'll also see more of the same weather tomorrow, while a few of our inland valleys will be just slightly warmer, like fairfield and santa rosa reaching 77 degrees. we'll talk about the cool end of may and the slightly warmer start to june coming up in a few minutes. >>> as you head out, mike, you might want to go out of your way just a little for lower gas prices. >> we'll show you the cheapest

meteorologist kari hall is here right now. the thing about it is the temperatures, put a little pause on some of the melting of the snow. >> it's still going to be dangerous and we are expecting more flooding over the next several months as the snowmelt continues. but over the next few days, the people who weren't able to go over the weekend, maybe have an opportunity to go for the next few days, the weather is going to be quite iffy, even a chance of thunderstorms there. and temperatures that will reach into the mid-50s, could change over to snow with off and on showers into the next several mornings. we have a storm system that's rolling down the coast and producing very cold temperatures and even sierra snow that may total about 4 to 12 inches over the next few days. so we are back to winter now, and also seeing the snow in elevations above 4,000 feet. so we're going to be watching that. we'll talk about the bay area's rain chances in the forecast coming up in a few minutes. >>> heading out the door, mike has one of the des
