kari hall has been watching that wind forecast for us. and we are going to get some information from her based on that. in just a few moments. you see a lot of water still poured down on the building, and you can see from sky ranger up above that it is a very large building. you some of the other buildings nearby. what can you tell us about the direction that the smoke is go and the speed at which it's moving? >> right now, we have seen calm winds, even behind the weather system that moved through earlier this morning. and live look at the camera. you can see the smoke that kind of billows away, farther off towards the south and east. so this is what we're seeing as far as current conditions. calm winds and temperature as 54 degrees. it is cool, and as we go through the morning, going to see those winds picking up a bit. we may have some gusts up to 16 miles per hour. and blowing some of that smoke closer the 980 area. away from 580. closer, farther off towards the south and east, as we go throughout the morning, as the winds pick up to a

meteorologist kari hall is watching the storm as well, even as we head the weekend. and the timing is so critical. >> yeah. we have a lot of events going on this weekend. as we get a view of the rain north of san jose. getting more rain in the south bay as we head through the morning commute. soccer fans getting ready to tailgate this afternoon. in front of avaya stadium. the rain cuts off just as the game gets started, with cloudy skies. tomorrow, we have a health fest going on. cloudy, upper 50s. great weather for that event. we are planning to cover that as well. on sunday, the san francisco rock and roll half marathon. cloudy and cool, lower 50s. perfect conditions for the runners. you don't have to worry about any rain. as you make plans also to head out of town, maybe you're going to heavenly. here's a live look. it will be raining off and on. highs in the low 40s. sunshine tomorrow. and you'll have to deal with showers, a mix of rain and snow on sunday. heading over mike tracking road conditions towards the commute. >> that's what we want to warn folks about.

but we start with meteorologist kari hall and, kari, where is the storm headed now? >> we are seeing the heaviest rain moving through san francisco and the peninsula right now. and it also extends into the east bay. now, for the south bay, we haven't seen much of it there, and it will get heavier as we go through late morning, early afternoon. storm ranger, mobile doppler radar, parked right now in front of the station on first street in san jose. and it is scanning around, getting us very high detailed view of what it looks like as some of the rain drops come out of the clouds. we're the only ones with this tool and it's definitely being put to good use as we are seeing some of the heavier rain continuing to move in. it's been over the north bay all throughout the morning and it's creating some low visibility for most of the city of san francisco over towards the east bay, san leandro where the bright reds and yellows there on the radar, and we will continue to see this working its way to the south as we go through the rest of the day. still more rounds of heavy rai

let's turn to meteorologist kari hall. kari, is it my imagination or is that storm creeping in a weird direction? >> it's kind of feeding into the low pressure system. actually, the center of the storm is well to the west of us. so, that was the first wave. the second wave moves in overnight. so, we will see kind of of a change in direction as that next wave of rain moves in. but we are seeing a lot of this tapering offer and moving over towards the central valley and sacramento valley as well. we've seen a couple lightning strikes with a few of these cells especially moving over the hills and it's still raining in gilroy and farther to the south while some of the heavier rain has shifted off towards the east. we are getting some rain across east san jose and over towards the foothills and it's also moving closer to sunol and the tri-valley where we had a beautiful rainbow earlier today. we're still seeing the rain moving through parts of the delta. this activity will be winding down for the afternoon and another round lat

meteorologist kari hall joins us now. kari, the weekend changes that forecast a bit. >> it does. we have enjoyed some sunshine and temperatures that have been very chilly to start, but then warming up during the afternoon. that's what we are seeing in progress right now. we are up to 55 degrees in san jose and it will continue to warm at least another 10 at the grizzlies in spots. so, looking at 53 degrees in oakland and san francisco, fairfield at 55 degrees. and we have been talking about the changes heading in, but as we enjoy today, it will be right at about average for the first day of march. and then temperatures dropping as we go into tonight. and looking farther down the line, looking at that rain that is affecting parts of the pacific northwest, this will be dipping to the south. we will talk about the time line and how much rain we can expect. it's come ug up at 11:21. >> thanks, kari. about an hour ago the santa clara county water district announced it will ask for federal assistance to address, reduce and prevent future flooding of the coyote creek area which impacted

kari hall joins us with a look at the amazing weather. >> it's beautiful out there. as you are driving around, you can tell we have had a rough winter. those potholes are everywhere! well, maybe if you can't make it to santa cruz you want to head here. ocean beach. it's still cool. only 59 degrees. but it will continue to warm up over the next couple of hours. check out half moon bay. already at 66 degrees there. and it is feeling nice and mild in san francisco. a lot of sunshine. and take a look at that. you want to get out and take in the views and the warmer air. as we go into the next couple of days. it's 61 degrees right now in livermore. 63 in san jose. and the seven-day forecast now coming up at the bottom of the screen. you will see we will have more dry weather. there will be one part of the bay area that could see some rain this week. we'll talk about that as we get a look at today's forecast. going to reach into the low 70s today in the peninsula. upper 70s for the south bay as well as the north bay while san francisco today tops out at 70 degrees. looking

forecaster, vianey is in for kari hall. those are words we usually don't put in the same sentence. >> this cold front was on track to bring snow to lower elevation areas. we saw hail. you see that snow in berkeley. they got just under an inch of rain. but last night, as that cold front swept in, that rain quickly turned into a snowy mix. that's how we turned out with that crazy video. i know especially considering that we're in march already, guys. but look at this doppler radar now, it's showing a lot of activity, scattered showers expecting to push through the north bay, half moon bay. the good news is is that as the storm is expected to make an exit, we are on track to see a drying trend in the forecast. however we're still seeing snow in saratoga, mt. hamilton as well, and lake tahoe saw just over 13 inches of snow. we are definitely expecting the chance of possible hail and sleet over the next couple of hours. that's going to make for an even more dangerous commute, paired with colder temperatures. for a closer look at
