vianey arana is in for kari hall this morning and kari -- i mean vianey, the cooldown has started. >> i try to channel my inner kari hall. 24-hour temperature change is kind of interesting actually, so whatever thermal layer we had keeping us warm still running a couple of degrees warmer for the lower elevations. if you notice near sunnyvale san jose about two degrees but in the higher elevations the hilltops were running cooler and a little bit more humid, which is good, because that's going to reduce the chance of seeing elevated fire danger so that's going to kick us down into something a little bit more reasonable in terms of the humidity, which is always great news. now, as far as your forecast for today, i think you're going to like this one, for a friday, look at temperatures, 63 degrees is our predicted high for san francisco, 68 for oakland, and the interior valleys are trending a lot cooler, in fact about ten degrees lower than our predicted highs from yesterday. yesterday we were in the 90s, today not so much. livermore 78, down through san jose 74 degrees and this is all t

i'm meteorologist kari hall. we are looking live at dublin. hazy sunshine.t out nice and cool. it's going to be a hot day, in fact the hotst day of the week as our high temperatures in the 90s. upper 90s farther to the north in the north bay. san francisco keeps it cool with a high of 678. 85 in palo alto. san jose reaching 88 degrees. in our inland forecast we are getting ready for a cooldown after today. and our temperatures heading into the low 80s for friday and the weekend. looking nice, with a slight chance of rain in the north bay on saturday. highs reaching the upper 70s. then into early next week we will be tracking a system that could bring us some rainnconday san francisco mostly says in the 60s but a little bit cooler for the weekend. let's get an update on how the commute is moving now with mike. >> overall it looks typical but we have a couple of issues over in the trivalley out of freemont. we are looking at northbound 680. very slow. crash, big rig, maybe two over there heading into vargas. that's a distraction. slowing, consider that blocked

will it be at hot as yesterday, kari hall? >> it will, only coming down a few degrees. i've heard that some people really get the end of summer blues. i don't think you'll have the blues, thinking that we are looking forward to some cooler temperatures, but not today. as we get a look at those highs in cupertino, we're heading back into the mid 80s today. that morning commute for martinez, it starts out cool, as temperatures drop down there into the upper 50s but it's going to get hot again today, reaching 83 already by noon, as we reach into the low 90s around that area, inland valleys. some low 90s. we'll talk about what's going on. mike, you have a traffic alert for oakland. >> not so cool already for the morning commute. less bad news i guess is chp reports minor injuries at most for this crash northbound 880, just north of high street. now you have all but one lane blocked. only your fast lane is blocked and that's moving slowly past the coliseum because there are three cars that are kind of scattered across the lanes. three separate tow trucks are called and once

kari hall has been tracking this for us this morning. what are we talking about here? >> it means conditions will be favorable for any wildfires that develop that could spread in the hills, as we head through tonight into tomorrow, and it's for these areas shaded in orange, this put out by the national weather service saying that because we will have an increasing wind, decreasing humidity, and those hilltop wind gusts to 35 miles per hour, you do have to be very careful with any flames, because they could cause some wildfires to spread, and our winds will shift in from the north, bringing us the lower humidity and the higher temperatures, but we'll see those winds picking up once again between tonight and throughout the day on tomorrow. so we'll continue to monitor that as our temperatures go up for the north bay. we're headed into the upper 80s, and it's going to feel very much like summer, slightly warmer temperatures for the rest of the bay area. so i'll have an eye on that, and i'll have a l palo alto's temperature trend coming up. mike, you were looking for a mat

meteorologist kari hall is tracking the changes. kari -- tropical depression gordon is moving inland. here )s a live look at the rada. the storm is losing strength but is still bringing problems in the delta states and the midwest. heavy rain from the storm is causing widespread flooding and slowing the recovery efforts with power crews. nbc )s jay gray has this update from gulfport, mississippi. police are searching for a pickup truck involved in a high speed chase. we saw power lines down. tens of thousands without power. the crews got out as quickly as they could after the storm passed. this storm, though, is not over. gordon moving inland. it slowed down dramatically. it's lingering and going to bring rain from the south through the midwest and it's the midwest where we're going to have some issues. they have already been dealing with catastrophic flooding there. now this storm which is again moving much slower is going to drop more rain in an area that just doesn't need it. that is the very latest from here in gulfport, mississ

. >>> meteorologist kari hall is here.nd i know you've been tracking those conditions in napa county. just really tough. >> yeah. right now the winds are still calm, so we've also had some high humidity throughout the morning hours. that has helped, hopefully, with the containment of that wildfire. as we get a live look outside in san rafael this morning, air quality still remains an issue with smoke coming by. but areas south of there will have some improved air quality throughout the day. and here's the reason why. our winds coming in from the north, but then curving off towards the east. so it's carrying that smoke over napa county over towards solano county and then eventually toward the central valley. so most of that smoke drifting away from the bay area. our temperatures now in the upper 70s in that area. and humidity is starting to drop. our winds so far still remain light at about 3 miles per hour. and then as we go through the day, our temperatures heading into the upper 80s for the middle of the afternoon. so we

. >>> nbc bay area meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the path of florence right now. ow, kari, any better idea of when this might make landfall? >> we are expecting it to make landfall by friday. at the end of the week we will see this moving closer. right now the track moving west-northwest at 17 miles per hour. but notice they're already getting some just regular tropical air mass thunderstorms. so even as they prepare for this hurricane, it's already ranrain. it will be a slow-moving storm. once it arrives to the coast, very early on friday morning, moving most likely around north carolina. but this track could shift over the next couple of days and also the intensity forecast may change, as well. what we're expecting right now, this will be extremely dangerous, making landfall on friday with an impact on the carolinas, storm surge may be over ten feet and rain totals anywhere from 15 to 20 inches or more. so we'll continue to monitor that and have more updates. and i'll have an update on the bay area forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> all right. we'll check ba

let's get straight to the forecast right now meteorologist kari hall. >> we're about to officially begin fall this weekend, but it's going to feel more like summerr days. li mo our temperatures go50 f at 7:00 to all clearing out at a very nice afternoon, heading up to 71 degrees, which will be much cooler than normal, as you get the kids up and ready for school this morning, in danville, the school day forecast shapes up with a very chilly start, only 51 degrees, as you're walking to school, but very nice, 71, when that last school bell rings. now mike, you've got a short change going on. >> big change going on. the bay bridge, wadku over at the toll plaza, just a few minutes ago, 15 minutes ago it was completely clear and then 15 minutes later, 18 lanesslow, because the hov lanes are moving well. don't be alarmed, the flashing lights are oversized rigs. it means there's a payload there and you have to be careful on either side of the lanes. they should getou i've seen it happen before but we'll track that just to make sure. so far, the backup at the toll plaza because the metering light

let's head over to meteorologist kari hall. >> we have a red flag warning in effect. we'll have low humidity, high winds and critically dry conditions that could cause wildfires for the inland parts of the east bay and the north bay. that's the main concern today. be careful, if you'll be out there especially in the hills, no sparks whatsoever. and as we head out the door for work this morning, heading to the warm springs b.a.r.t. station in fremont, it will be a chilly one to start with, some low 50s and warming up into the mid-70s. it will be a hotter day with some of the inland valleys back in the low 90s and it will get hotter as the week goes along. i'll talk more about that coming up and vianey has been tracking major issues on 880. >> they continue, but at least the rest of the bay area seems to be moving along okay. now look at the south bay, we've got nice green roads, along the peninsula as well. meanwhile in hayward, chp the latest update tow trucks were on the way. our desk is actively making calls to see how that's doing but southbound 880 at wynton avenu

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the path of florence. and what are we talking about the time line, when it's going to make landfall? >> they're going to see the rain bands late tonight through tomorrow. but it still is going to be a very powerful hurricane, even though it has temporarily weakened. which is normal to see some fluctuations in the intensity of the hurricane. right now category 3 with wind speeds of 125 miles per hour. this is moving to the northwest at about 16 miles per hour. as we get a closer look of where it should make landfall, looks like it should be around the myrtle beach area, but the problem will be the slow-moving nature of this hurricane that may stall as it moves into the coast. and that could dump lots of rain over the next couple of days. so it's something we'll be monitoring as we look at the time line there. it could be moving in right around thursday night. so at least the time it will be moving in has moved up. as we bring it back home, we're looking live in palo alto with a clear sky. we're enjoying suc

kari hall is monitoring that for us as well. good morning to you. thanks smuch for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm scott mcgrew. marcus washington has the day off. we'll get a check of your weather in a second. >> let's take a look at maps and overall contra costa county looks pretty good. yellow arrow is one of the things we're pointing at north 680 at red gear road a crash just came in to chp. no real problem. you see more slowing on 24 eastbound that's traditionally what we see outside the caldecott. that is not a problem. this is the problem for drivers coming off the east shore freeway and the carquinez bridge. lot of slowing as folks come here and off of that san rafael to richmond bridge as we're looking at the focus of the construction zone around gilman. looks like things started to pick up because the speed sensors are improving and supposed to pick up around 5:00 anyway. the rest of the bay a smooth flow of traffic, no major problems. slowing on 17. there are no crews headed to the summit. it's a slower read because we have no problems. we have low cloud cov

let's head over to meteorologist kari hall with the warmer temperatures's we heat up throughout the day. >> isn't this our treat for waking up early in the morning, we see the sun rise, we have the cooler weather and it's going to be a nice start to the day. san jose looking good as you head out, as we step out the door in dublin. it's going to be cool, only about 50 degrees as you head out to the b.a.r.t. station and then our temperatures heating up fast, so whatever you have to do outside, try to get it done early before it gets really hot out there. the south bay heading up to 90 degrees in gilroy, and milpitas up to 83 degrees. we'll take a look at all of our microclimates and look ahead to the weekend. vianey you're tracking that morning commute and several issues out there on the roads. >> it's getting busier but it is expected at the 6:30 hour and yes, we're still seeing major delays through hayward due to that earlier crash along southbound 880 at winton. we're still having the issue of several lanes blocked and i'm also noticing that we've got some slight slowing along northbou

kari hall has been tracking this for us this morning. >> there is a fire weather watch in effect for those areas in the north bay, especially the higher elevations, where we could see increasing winds, decreasing humidity and wind gusts to 35 miles per hour. it's for these areas shaded in orange and once again includes the higher elevations, which is also part of marin county, up toward northern sonoma county and extending over toward napa and yolo county. that's something we'll be watching as we go throughout tonight as well as tomorrow. winds pick up coming from the north it's going to be a dry wind but also going to increase ras we go into today. as we look at our highs for this afternoon, coming up at least about ten degrees in some of our 88 in ukiah and a is going to be up to 85 in livermore, down to san jose 81 degrees, and morgan hill today reaching 86. we do still keep those cool coastal temperatures, with some patches of fog. so i'll have more on our temperature trend for fremont coming up. mike, you have two reports now for 680. >> i do, kari. it's been a calm chp report o

. >>> we want to bring back meteorologist kari hall she's been tracking the storm and the weather surrounding it. >> the smoky skies. >> yes, so hazy but we did have improvement over the weekend and that's what we'll see through the day, except for the north bay near the wildfires we'll have moderate air quality. looking good for the bay and the coast and areas south of the golden gate bridge, not as smoky there, and look at our winds and the pattern that we'll see, those winds still coming in from the north, but then starting to turn off towards the east as we go throughout the day and our winds fairly light that will begin to pick up toward the middle of the week. we've had good recovery there, humidity at 80%, we look for the humidity values to go up during the morning hours and winds are still calm as we go through the day, our temperatures head up to the low 80s, which is not extreme heat, but we will see the humidity dropping and the temperatures warming up. i'll continue to monitor that and also look at the forecast, coming up in a few minutes. >> thanks, kari. 6:04 right now. >>> anot
