meteorologist kari hall is tracking the storm for us. when should we pull out the umbrellas? >> we'll need it later on this afternoon. we're watching the showers approach the coast. we have the best view of the north and south bay continuing to move in. kind of moving in from west to east seeing a solid line of some rain developing near the coast and moving closer to the bay area. and this is a pretty large storm and it's pretty organized bringing in high winds with heavy rain. by 2:00, we are seeing some showers approaching the coastline and starting to make the way into the bay area with heavy rain covering pretty much all of the bay area. by 4:00 this afternoon. so the evening commute will be slow and very sloppy as we start to see the winds picking up from the south as we see this system advancing into the bay area. 8:00 we are all seeing some rain and maybe heavy in some spots and it does continue through the overnight hours. we are looking at the possibility of about one to two inches of rain and also an elevated flood risk along with some high wind gusts and detailing

. >> kari hall is tracking the incoming storm. kari, nice and clear right now. >> yeah. it's for the most port not really raining heavily but in some spots we have seen some light rain coming in. looking live in san francisco right now. see the low clouds and also we're seeing the same over san jose. we have a few hours to prepare for the rain to get heavier later on tonight and our temperatures stay on the cool side. now, looking at storm ranger, that's the red scan with the mobile doppler radar starting to pick up on some light santa rosa northward some higher eleons a getting in on light snow and wintry mix and then once again some light rain on 101 to petaluma and extending eastward. expecting the rain to move in, low pressure from the north tap into some subtropical moisture from the south so with this it's going to enhance the rainfall and also going to see this

and kari hall is getting us started with the day.d temperatures bring out the coats. >> another morning for heavier coats. they're getting worn out this season as we start out again with some 30s across parts of the bay area. i've also seen a couple of spotty showers. as we take a live look in san francisco, things are looking good here but you'll notice that it is very cold with some low 40s there and some freezing temperatures in our inland valleys. fairfield now at 30 and it's 32 in livermore. as we check out our seven-day forecast, there is some heavy rain headed our way midweek and again for the weekend. i'll have more details on that in just a few minutes. mike, you're getting us out there on the roads. so far it seems calm. >> calm for almost all of the bay. i want to point out one spot where you have to plan on a slower drive and that's the at the top of the screen. the incident at the bottom of the screen 280 in san jose we'll get more details. chp should arrive in the next

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking all of that. ea now? >> it is out of the area for now. we have seen 7" of rain and lighter showers moving through. we are tracking heavy rain off the coast and reaching toward the bay area. i do think we have about an hour to an hour and a half before that next round of heavy rain arrives. it will bring in potential of thunderstorms, some more heavy rain and gusty winds all across the bay area. we're going to continue to see this move through in waves tonight and still more scattered showers left in the forecast throughout the first part of the weekend. let's get an update on the commute for mike. >> san jose 87, 101, a lot more traffic and slowing there. we continue to see the build up as we still have your right two lanes locked 880 past marina boulevard. big rig crashed up a hillside and sticking out in the slow lane. that is the issue getting through the east bay. that keeps things north of there and here by the coliseum a little bit lighter. slick roadways, watching for reports, trees down, sc

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking all of this for us. kari, another wet weekend for us. >> it will be a wet weekend at least we have a little while, small window this morning to get things done before that rain comes in. so if you're up early watching us, good for you. a lot of people getting up later on, may not be able to get ahead of this rain. so here is a look at storm ranger. our mobile doppler radar showing the red scan there, we have it parked on san bruno mountain and as of now, everything is looking good. this is what goes into effect later on today. a high wind watch for all of the bay area, so this next storm will be packing a punch, and could be producing winds at about 25 to 40 miles per hour in the valleys, 50 to 60-mile-per-hour gusts in the hills, so that could cause a lot of problems. also a flash flood watch goes into effect tonight as we could see rainfall rates at about an inch per hour and looking at generally about one to two inches and up to four inches in the hills. as we time it out for you going hour-by-hour, at

i'm meteorologist kari hall oor or @karihallweather on all social media. temperatures right now is just cold and below freezing for some of our inland valleys. we're seeing that all across the north bay, temperatures below 32 degrees. we're also freezing in livermore, and san martin, and palo alto right now 36. so watch out for those icy spots on the roads, especially for those elevated bridges and overpasses, and brentwood it will be about 35 degrees at 7:00, and then reaching into the low 50s today, so it will get a little bit warmer than yesterday, but not by much. and we do have a couple more days of some dry weather before the next storm system arrives. this one still developing out in the pacific, and making its way closer, so as we time it out for you, i know you're trying to make some weekend plans, we are going to see showers move in friday morning into the north bay and for the higher elevations in the north bay, could start out as some snow. so this one will be off and on with the rain for the bay area, continuing throughout the weekend, and the

but first let )s start with meteorologist kari hall. kari -- our reporters have been out in the elements getting soaked all morning long. kari you're folngwindsor extending past petama numerous creeks and drive over a flooded road. it carry your vehicle away. and flood warning for the napa area, downtown napa. it could inundate those areas that typically flood. we expect that to happen tomorrow morning. storm ranger and our radar, showing even some thunderstorms starting to develop as we head toward the noon hour. we've seen a couple of them in parts of the north bay. as we get a closer look at the heavier rain moving closer to san francisco, we also see that rain intense feig and that could create some slippery road conditions.r toward hercules and vallejo, we're picking up on very heavy rain and this cell will continue to quickly move off toward the west -- rather to the east the next few minutes and really hit vallo next 15 minutes. we're also picking up on heavy rain, rainfall rates at almost half an inch of rain per hour. it is real

ka kari hall is tracking that system that's moving through. south bay is not seeing much at all. looking at heavy rain in san francisco and into the north bay and over those last few minutes, i have seen some of that rain moving antoning into the east b. light rain in high waayward and rain will be shift to the north and back south again. a lot to deal with here some spots of 2 to 5 inches of rain causing floodings. we don't see a lot of rain for areas south of the golden gate bridge. then you see the slow progression of that storm dipping to the south later on this evening. >> snow may not be raining heavily. we see it is making its way into the south bay later on tonight. mike, you are taking us to the san mateo bridge. >> yeah, kari, that was the location of where i am at. we are seeing an easier flow and the skies are definitely dark clouds. we are watching a slower dry developing the commute build across 92. 880 we are already seeing some slowing. wet tuesday, slow it down, everyone though the traffic is lighter than what you may see most

first we want to talk to meteorologist kari hall. kari, that rain has been coming down, several inches of rain. >> so much rain. it's been steady this morning even as it lightened up for much of our microclimates. as we get a look at storm ranger, that's mobile doppler radar, still steady rain on the peninsula, also shifting into parts of the south bay and east bay. as we get a closer look, a lot of people heading out the door around hayward, castro valley, san ramon and concord dealing with a wave of heavy rain that may make travel very treacherous. we have heavy rain pouring on the santa cruz mountains but lighter rain in the south bay. as we go throughout the day, a thunderstorm possible here and there around the bay area as a cold front drops in. our temperatures dropping as well. even though it's 60 right now, it will be dropping into the lower 50s later today. not only will it be windy and cooler, but we may also see thunderstorms moving through this afternoon. still some spotty showers. it may be heavy at times even into tonigh

let's get over to meteorologist kari hall. she knows all about the temperatures this morning and they are cold, kari. >> wait for it, wait for it -- >> i know. >> we're 39 in oakland. it is below freezing in the tri-valley and much of the north bay as you get ready to head out the door. if it is not freezing it is very close and you still have to scrape the frost off the windshield. allow time to do that and watch out for icy spots on the roads. in brendwood we're down to 33 at 6:00 and a little better throughout the day with low 50s by early afternoon. we'll see highs reaching mid to upper 50s by later today in antioch 55 and 57 in santa rosa. we'll talk about the weekend in a few minutes. mike, you have a delay in the east bay. >> i do. it looks much worse than it actually is. this is improvement for east shore freeway although we have a flood of traffic underneath that university crossing. the deal is they finally cleared all lanes after the earlier motorcycle crash west 80 at central. san pablo toward central and flowing al

"today in the bay's" kari hall has been monitoring the system for us. kari, that rain will come in sometime today, right? >> it will be later on this morning into the afternoon. storm ranger on mobile doppler radar we have it parked on san bruno mountain right now, standing around the bay area. you are all clear to head out the door for now. make sure you're prepared for the high wind and the rain that's on the way. a high wind watch will go into effect by 3:00 this afternoon for all of the bay area, and for the bay area valleys. we could see our winds up to 40 miles per hour, gusts for the hills up to 60 miles per hour. also a flash flood watch for tonight, once the heavier rain gets here. we're looking at anywhere from one to over four inches of rain in the hills. so i'll have more details on the timing of that coming up in a few minutes. mike, you're seeing some improvement in parts of the east bay. >> that's right, we can only say that pretty much on a friday at 6:30 in the morning. we have the build around the bay. we have the toll plaza, which does
