let's bring in meteorologist kari hall, the ingredients will be there. we've got the heat, the dry conditions, and those winds. do you think they'll die down? >> it looks like we'll see the winds subsiding as we go throughout the day. here is the areas included in that red flag warning from now until 11:00, and so it's mostly elevations above 1,000 feet. here is a look at our model showing the winds, seen as we look at where we see the bright colors on the map here, it indicates where the winds are gusting the highest, and we do start out with winds sustained at about 24 to 25 miles per hour, at times, and starting to calm down as we go through the rest of the day, and it's still going to be very dry and hot once again as we talk about our high temperatures heading up to 101 degrees today, in antioch, concord as well as napa, 102 in ukiah. i'll have another look at this and the big cooling ahead, that's coming up in the full forecast. >> kari, thank you. >>> all day we'll be throwing a lot of resources at this story from field crews to our team of meteor

kari hall is tracking that as you could see the system starts to move out. good morning. i'm scott mcgrew. >> and i'm kris sanchez. laura and marcus are off today. we start with the delays in the major artery. live team coverage as nbc bay area's roz plater is live near the scene and mike is tracking it. >> that is right. we've had quite an impact all morning. look at this. we still have northbound 680 from behind my name coming around the bend and this is the washington urban area. folks know that is where you turn the corner and come up toward the scene of the closure. folks heading toward mission and then taking up now canyon roadway, that is still jammed up. 680 jammed up. two lanes closed because of the spill. we still have the jam through castro valley through eastbound 580. if this doesn't clear in the next hours we'll have a problem because the commute starts at about 2:00 p.m. and all morning roz plater has been out there. what is the latest and the hope? >> reporter: well traffic is flowing. you could see that behind me here. a couple of lanes are open now but t

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking all of that for us, and kari, the temperatures are looking like they're going to be nice today. >> it's going to be slightly cooler today. if you're getting ready to head out the door, keep in mind you need to check the schedule, if you will be going to work or planning on catching public transit today. we will be running on a holiday schedule and in oakland we're reaching up to 76 degrees. up to 90 in concord and 91 in livermore. san jose going to reach up to 87 degrees, so it will be just a little bit lower than yesterday, and that will be the trend as we go throughout the week. as you get ready to head out for work this morning, overall the commute has been pretty light. let's look at our traffic maps as you get ready to head out this morning, in the south bay, we are seeing just a few slow spots, but we're not seeing anything really major at this time, that could delay you getting to work, and looking at the east bay commute, i've had three incidents that are so far not causing the center to slow down, meaning people aren't slowing in tho

i'm metlogist kari hall. at the golden gate bridge, all clear, and it's going to be a very warm day in san francisco with high temperatures reaching the mid to upper 80s. low 90s in oakland, and even up to 102 degrees in the inland east bay. in the north bay, we could be near some record high temperatures in napa and in santa rosa, and we could set a new record in concord today. our inland temperatures start to come back down tomorrow, with mid-90s but we really start to feel it on sunday, some low 80s and then by monday, we could be tracking a chance of showers especially in the north bay, with more clouds moving in, highs reaching the mid-70s and then warming up for the middle to end of next week. san francisco mid 80s today, but then coming down to the low 70s tomorrow, and more clouds and cooler temperatures early next week. >>> how are the roads moving, mike? >> moving slowly in oakland north 880 on the right side. typical pattern here. we see slowing where the arrow is, 880 and 580, routes to the maze.

mike will get you the commute in a bit but first we start with meteorologist kari hall because you've been telling us about that rain and where we can expect it. >> mostly for the north bay right now. as you get ready to head out the door be prepared the system will move from north to south across the bay area and we're not seeing widespread rain but as it comes through it is going to make everything quite soggy for a little while and start to clear out later today. as we head through 8:00 to 9:00, still in the north bay but approaching parts of the east bay, the peninsula, san francisco by 10:00 to 11:00 and moving into the south bay by early afternoon. so i'll continue to keep tabs on this with another look at what to expect coming up. mike, now you have a new crash in hayward? >> i do. a light commute. we'll take you to this area off the nimitz freeway. if you missed kari's timing, the rain will give everyone a chance to have wet roads over the course of the day. southbound 680 at "a" street, this may affect the on-ramp for the next couple of minutes. the freeway shows traditional

. >>> right now we want to go to meteorologist kari hall, when we talk about flames, you want to think about the wind conditions. what are we looking at around here today? >> it's still going to be breezy out there and we're seeing higher humidity. one thing that may be of concern is the chance that we could see some lightning in some of our higher elevations as well as the santa cruz mountains, and some of the inland east bay. so watching out for that, as the humidity increases you'll feel it as you step out the door. let's go hour by hour with our temperatures throughout the day. we take you through noon and antioch at 81 degrees. we're at 74 in san mateo, and then into early afternoon, concord at 89. there will be a few spots reaching the low 90s but we won't stay there throughout much of the afternoon. we're just going to hit that temperature, and then start to come back down. so this is slightly cooler than the weather we've seen, and we're coming back down to the mid-60s for tonight. so we'll continue to watch our temperatures decline over the next few days. some great news heade

we head over to meteorologist kari hall tracking the forecast for us. a good one today?od one been we had a nice weekend, a beautiful sunrise not only of san francisco but across the bay area so open up the blinds, take a look out there and let's get this day started. as we get ready to head out the door headed to the warm springs b.a.r.t. station upper 50s as you step out, so it is a cool start. a little bit breezy and we'll have a very mild day, mid-70s by early afternoon. we'll talk about what's ahead with some much hotter temperatures in the forecast, and mike, you're updating the crashes in high ward. hayward. >> two crashes on the nimitz freeway, a good flow of traffic and nothing unexpected except for one stretch where the red sensors are kicking in because of the very slow drive from 238 south on the nimitz down toward whipple, and then easing up as you approach dennison. the crash at tennison completely removed from the roadway. we have the crash at whipple which may be at least a distraction and also that traffic backup has rippled back again in to hayward out

first meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the fire dangers in our area as well as some of those controlled power outages. >> the controlled power outages, the high heat, low humidity, we're all the things that we're watching this morning and we'll have to start out with some mild temperatures as you get ready to head out the door. we have some upper 60s in the tri-valley, all clear skies. we also have some unhealthy air quality in the inland east bay as well as the south bay, and we want to make sure we're trying to do our part in reducing the ozone emissions and carbon emissions as well. our temperatures today in dublin will reach the low 90s by early afternoon. we'll continue to go up from there, reaching the triple digits again today in many of our inland spots. we'll talk more about this and the fire danger in a few minutes. mike there are a couple issues in the north bay. >> there are. on the big map at this latitude we see more slowing here, castro valley, hayward, san leandro, and also 580 coming out of theality month pass westbound, there seems to be more focused slowing

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking those temperatures as they're starting to creep, creep, creep it's going to be slightly warmer today as we take a live look at the start of our day at the golden gate bridge, just some very fine layers of fog rolling by. we'll see a lot more sunshine today and temperatures starting out cool, but going into the very warm tritoryhis afternoon. in concord we're reaching up to about 86 degrees. at 2:00 this afternoon highs we'll make it up to 91 there. we'll see some upper 80s in the tri-valley, mid 80s in the south bay and the north bay up to about 85 degrees in santa rosa. so we'll talk more about what's ahead and a look to the weekend, in about six minutes and mike, you're still tracking that slowing in palo alto. >> unfortunately it's because of a crash southbound 101, taking a while to completely clear. looks like they opened another lane with the flashing lights, you still see them behind the trees, south 101 south of willow but before you get to university. we see a little bit of slowing on our maps still and also have traffic feeding over no

." >> let's bring in meteorologist kari hall. we know september is a peak time for wildfires. >> it looks like these conditions will be ripe for those wildfires to possibly develop so we have to be really careful here. here is a look at our hour by hour wind speed in the forecast, going into 9:00 tonight, we start to see our winds picking up in those areas, where you see the red, that's mostly in those north bay hills, anytion above 1,000 feet we will have the higher winds there, but we may not see that mixing down to the surface and making it into the valleys. so our main concern will be those hills in the east bay as well as the north bay, and that's where they may be shutting off the power in parts of lake sonoma and napa counties and we'll have a high fire danger also for the sierra. we'll be watching out for that along with some low humidity, so i'll have more on the forecast and the hot temperatures ahead, that's coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you very much, kari. of course if we get word on any power outage we'll sen

kari hall has been tracking the forecast for us. kari, today anyway, i'm very excited about this. >> me too. it was such a beautiful weekend. and that weather continues today as we enjoy temperatures in the 70s and low 80s. and all clear skies. this is a look at our view from the cupertino hills looking toward the south bay where it is also bright and sunny. not a cloud to be seen as our temperatures head into the upper 70s, this is actually cooler than normal. we're used to seeing temperatures reaching 82 to 83 degrees this time of the year. so we're only going to make it into the upper 70s. morgan hill up to 80. also 80 in antioch. napa today reaches 82. we'll see upper 70s in ukiah and clear lake with san francisco mostly in the upper 60s. and we are going to have one more day like this after today and then the temperatures tart to go up. so i'll show you that very hot week from drastic changes ahead in the full microclimate forecast. >> sounds good. thanks, kari. >>> now to an update on the deadly dive boat fire in southern calif

kari hall tracking what we can expect. you have been warning us. >> this is the day where we really start to feel that heat so a heat advisory is issued for the bay area. we seeing all of these areas shaded in orange including in the heat advisory beginning right now until 7:00 this evening and so this will once again go in effect for tomorrow as we see all clear skies, even at the golden gate bridge where we normally see some fog and some cooler temperatures. it is also a spare the air alert day meaning that unhealthy air quality likely in the north bay, inland, east bay and the south baidu to some drifts of smoke coming in from the fires near chico in northern california. taking a look outside, there is a layer of haze that we can see in the atmosphere but all clear skies and quickly warming temperatures and as we go into the rest of the day, we are looking at high temperatures for the inland east bay reaching into the upper 90s. and this unfortunately is not the peak of the heat but we are going do see still some very h

bay area's kari hall is tracking the current conditions but first bob redell is live with the power outage impact. >> reporter: here is sonoma county pg&e has turned off electricity for roughly 700 customers including the convenience store behind me in calistoga off 128. power has been out for several hours. since around 4:30 this morning. the manager of the store expects the outage will cost the store about a thousand dollars and if this outage goes on for longer he'll have to throw out a lot of his produ including drinks, ice cream, frozen food and that sort. he's also missing out onf pple . we watched a number of people try to activate thenuz without needs gas for his generator. >> there is no gas. the power is out. >> since last night it ha been out. >> do you know why? >> they're preparing -- they don't want to start a fire again. >> you got it. what do you think about it? >> i think it is right. a couple of years ago, last year, i'm not sure -- it was pretty devastating. sad. we don't want it happening again. >> and do you understand why pg&e is doing this? >> yes. >> what are your t
