kari hall tracking when the rain returns to the bay area.today in the bay" continues right now. >>> good wednesday morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm scott mcgrew in for marcus washington. we got up this morning on the drive to work some wet spots but the rain moved out. >> the rain has moved out and we still may have all of the humidity left in the air to develop patchy dense fog but a clear drive as we look outside in dublin. as you start out today, we're going to see another weather system heading our way by tonight. but we do have a dry day ahead. going hour-by-hour, our rain chances going down after a few spotty showers but this time tomorrow morning rain will be covering most of the bay area. so we'll talk more about how much rain we're going to see when it moves in and out. that is coming up in about five minutes. and mike is tracking the buildup in oakland. >> that is right. during the commercial break w d. i thought it was an early build but it sorted out. cash lanes still have a mild build but you s

kari hall has been tracking the storm. >> it has slowed down. we're not seeing the brunt of the storm with the heavier rain. the storm approaches from the north and we've seen the heaviest rain still off the coast and spotty showers across parts of marin as well as sonoma up to lake and mendocino counties. we've also seen some rain now falling on the bay bridge. this is moving over to oakland as we get a look at the timing. another 20 to 30 minutes before it makes it to orinda. some of the heaviest rain moving into some of the coasts to the north on northward but it's moving into santa rosa with the heavier rain already starting to hear the wind picking up there. a wider view and a look as it approaches. the center still off the coast and when we'll sea see spotty showers moving in this afternoon. had is already a cold storm. as it starts in our north bay areas some of our mountains and hills elevations above 3,000 feet will see some snow coming down. we're seeing heavy rain and look at the time line. making its way through the east bay and movi

this morning meteorologist kari hall is timing out that wet weather. i want to thank you for joining us this morning. i'm marcus washington. >>> and i'm laura garcia. right to that forecast. i know we have an accident on the roads as well. the rain will be moving in for the morning commute? >> later this morning, if you're up now and about to head out the door, you're going to beat the rain unless you're in santa rosa on northward a. look at storm ranger, it is showing that we are seeing those showers moving through and we are seeing that rain across northern sonoma as well as up around clear lake. some of the heavier rain into the coast and we'll be moving into the rest of the bay area as we go into late morning into the afternoon. the storm has slowed down, but it's still packing the same punch we were expecting with some heavy rain and high wind. you can see that as we look at the 8:00 to 9:00 hour it's just arriving in san francisco. this is a look at rain further to the north. it is raining at a pretty steady pace and we'll also at times have some

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the rain expected to move in, though, midweek. >> yeah, so we're all dry for today as well as tomorrow, and we do have temperatures that are a little cool for us, but actually trending very near average with our high temperatures today. reaching into the upper 50s. that's a live look the dublin. 58 degrees will be our temperature at 1:00 and a quick warm up and cool down is what we can expect with very low humidity and also as we go around the micro climates looking at the bay area, we'reo. 61 in santa rosa. san francisco reaching 57 degrees, and 62 in san jose. but as we mentioned, we are tracking another storm system, and it's right now bringing some rain to the pacific northwest. now, as it moves into the bay area, it will bring in some slightly cooler temperatures, more cloud and some scattered showers. so obviously the time line of the midweek rain, and i'll let you know how much we're expecting as far as rain in the bay area as well as sierra snow. more of that coming up in a few minutes. >>> thank you so much. >>> there was shaking in

meteorologist kari hall tracking it all for us. this storm actually started in the north. >> and we're getting gusty winds. we are still getting gusts in rohnert park. 30 to 40-mile-per-hour winds but along the coast it could come up as high as 55 miles per hour later this morning in half moon bay and inland areas. here is the current look at our storm radar and it is showing the rain moving through. it doesn't look all that impressive but the rain bands are quite heavy and packing high winds. we'll chicago this as it moves from north to south. this crash happened on the southbound side of highway 1. a vehicle traveling north involved in a head-on collision. the driver died as a result of the crash. we have two other people, they're both at the hospital. we're looking at the conditions on the roadway. this is a closure. skyline is what you're looking at here, neither direction can access highway 1 at the scene that is forbidden because of the closure and the cleanup. notice the smoke coming up off the flares being blown around. you

first let's get our forecast with meteorologist kari hall. >> hi. we're starting out with some mild temperatures and some fog this morning. we're watching out for that but our radar showing that we don't have any rain yet. there will be some rain chances in the north bay. and this storm system approaching will bring us some scattered showers for part of the weekend. but we'll also churn up waves along the coast. there is a beach hazard statement in effect saying that we could have rip currents and sneaker waves through 9:00 this evening. watch out for that if you want to spend your friday on the coast. and we'll track the patchy fog. >>> it may be a factor for some folks crossing the bay bridge. the patchy traffic expect. the smooth drive early in the commute, 5:01 almost 5:02 here. toward the carquinez bridge where chp gave an advisory for fog after finding a big patch and seeing that hitting the dublin grade for 580 off of 80 sand for 84 with slowing showing up through pleasanton toward 680. back over to you. >> thanks, mike. >>> developing on cap

let's check in with meteorologist kari hall. what is coming our way. >> we'll see the rain especially tomorrow morning and today we're clear but starting out with clear sky and chilly temperatures. so by the time the storm arrives, it will bring in some low elevation snow for our bay area peaks. but look at where our temperature is now in palo alto and where with we're headed for today. upper 30s to start and some mid-50s with with some more clouds. but once again the rain holding off until later on tonight. but once it gets here it will bring us heavy downpours along with gusty winds. we're at 6:30 and just starting to see the initial line of heavy rain rolling from north to south and then it will linger throughout tomorrow and gradually taper off early on friday morning. so i'll talk more about this coming up. mike, you're talking a couple of issues out there. >> still following the issue off the dumbarton bridge. unexpected issues but wul have one lane blocked. crews should head out to get the disabled vehicle. has the distra

kari hall is tracking that this morning for us. and kari, dealing with with the rain here in the bay area and the snow up there. so a lot going on. >> a lot going on over the next 24 hours. today is a good travel day. and as we take a look at the storm it is still to the north of us and if you're doing over toward the sierra, expect the snow to come down by 8:00 to 9:00 tomorrow morning. after that it is all downhill as the heavy snow continues for around lake tahoe and then we'll see it gradually tapering off on friday. we're looking at once between up to two feet of snow, maybe a little bit higher for the upper elevations and we're going to start to see that rain moving into the bay area. right around midnight for the north bay and then the rest of the babe seeing some heavy rain by tomorrow morning. so we'll take a closer look at this timeline coming up and so far right now the traffic looks light at the bay bridge. >> and it is one of the -- it is a light at the bay bridge and there is an issue that may slow folks down. here at

. >> good morning >> all right, another classic, meteorologist kari hall's forecast. a good one. light rain pretty good today. and in parts of the bay area, not all of us will seehi wet de in oakland where we are getting started with no fog, everyone is rolling and gschool day if oakland, we're going to see a lot of clouds today. but at least we could leave the umbrellas at home. here we see clouds but not a lot of rain. temperatures reaching into the upper 50s throughout the school day. eventually reaching about 58 degrees for a high. concord we're heading to up 62. 60 in napa. and in san francisco expect a high of 57 degrees. now we do have some rain. very close by. here is a cold front that is moving closer but it does continue to weaken so we're still looking at slight rain chances for the north ba spotty off-and-on light rain as we go through 11:00. we are seeing some of the showers moving through san rafael, santa rosa and ukiah and still have the chance of rain over toward napas as well. as we go through about noon it comes into san francisco as well as the bay. there may

kari hall has been tracking our forecast. good morning. >> mike and i have been watching this dublin camera because it was so foggy here just a few minutes ago, you could barely see anything. it looks like visibility is improving a little bit but it is just cold this morning and that is going to be the main story as our teams start out in the 30s and low 40s as you head out of the door in concord, expect a clear sunrise and through the day our chilly start turns into a mild afternoon. we'll talk about the rain coming in for the weekend and, mike, you found that dublin freeway too. >> you and i both. because i was searching around. if we move the camera in a few feet, we can barely see a half or a quarter mile at times so that is a factor. above the roadway, the cameras are at hooftop height but i believe 580 is fine. around the boy wearing things at speed and definitely see the bay bridge toll plaza. >>> a palo alto safeway remains closed at this hour after an armed robbery targeting the store's pharmacy. police aren't saying

kari hall has been watching the skies for us. >> we still see a few lingering showers moves through areas south of the golden gate bridge. we have seen the rain, especially in parts of the east bay and south bay. still holding on, especially over the hills. moeps of that rain that moved through was fairly quick. and it was just enough to bring us about a quarter inch of rain. but the weather system is still across the region bringing us scattered rain and some light snow showers. looking at the bigger picture, once that moves on later on this afternoon, we'll be watching our next storm system. that is set to move in heading into saturday morning. and this could bring in another round of some quick-moving light rain. not a strong storm. so i'll let you know how to make the weekend plans, when this rainn cll now be allowed to use military wall. a court of appeals has overturned a ruling. it allows president trump to use $3.6 million for the wall's construction. the money will come from the military's construction funds. in a statement, the white house called the ruling a vikt ri and committ

meteorologist kari hall is joining us. now, talking about the storm coming in the next few days and keep an umbrella handy. >> yes, not only for thursday, but there is going to be a few spotty showers ahead of that in the overnoo knight hours. a live look in san jose. i love the days when we get the fair-weathered cumulus clouds to make it nice to sit outside and do some weather watching. we will see the sun in abundance and the temperatures up to 50, and 54 in napa and oakland and 64 in santa rosa. but we will see a couple of more storms headed our way and the first one is making its way through the pacific northwest and the next one behind it is arriving thursday. and this is that is coming in through the overnight hours will bring in the light rains and much like the rain we had erldier in this morning and if you missed it, well, not much to it. we will see the same thing as we are going into tonight and early tomorrow, and looking at the time line, and we are at 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning and the first wave of rain is
