woman was arrested in connection with starting the fire. >>> now we want to turn to meteorologist, kari hall, and we have been looking into how much california has been charred over the years with the massive wildfires, kari. >> yeah, i mean, we are really seeing climate change happening before our eyes and really alarming. now october 1st, here we are seeing so much of california burned. 1 of every 8 acres in california has burned in the last ten years. normally in october, that's the peak of the wildfire seasons. eight wildfires have all happened since 2018, and we are dealing some of the driest conditions since the 1970s. as we enter into some of the dry months and we see the santa ana and diablo winds picking up and the potential of more fires, and it's alarming we see the statistics with the largest wildfires burning across the state. the august complex happened, and that's was the largest on record, and number two is the dixie fire still ongoing. we will continue to watch the wildfire conditions and we'll talk about what is ahead for the weekend coming up in a few minutes. >>> mike, wh

meteorologist, kari hall has been tracking those conditions. >> it's good we have this weather system coming in that will bring in cooling changes and will help to clean out some of the air and bring a westerly wind off the ocean. also giving us mist and drizzle as the air quality arrives. the rest of the week is going to feel very fall-like with showers to the north. taking a look at our temperatures, reaching up to 81 in concord. 78 degrees in napa. some of these were reaching in

first our team coverage kicks off with meteorologist kari hall tracking it neighborhood by neighborhood. who is still seeing it all? >> the rain has cleared the bay area but we've been talking about what we've called the bomb cyclone for days now. and this is the reason why. as we loop the past 48 hours, we can see this storm intensify. it's called that because of the measures of low pressure in the center of the storm that dropped 24 millibars within the course of a day. when it intensified that quickly, we saw copious amounts of rainfall that happened to some tropical moisture and brought it right into the bay area. as we look at what's going on now, a lot of the rain tapering off but still that chance we could see a few spotty showers in the north bay as well as some other parts of the bay area by the next couple of hours. but, yes, take a look at the rainfall totals. all of this had to go somewhere. when it flowed down from mt. tam it went to a lot of the valleys and creeks and caused a lot of flooding. and santa rosa, over 8 1/2 inches of rain. oakland hills, more than 7 inches of

let's check in with meteorologist, kari hall. kari, how long will that smoke linger in the bay area? >> it's going to start to move in later on this afternoon, late morning into the afternoon. some of the smoke starting to come in from the south of the alisal fire. moderate air quality, and that means people sensitive to the smoke, children and the elderly should limit time out there in the south and east bays, and it may not make it all the way up to the north bay. by 10:00, we're in the low 60s. when the temperatures warm up, most likely that smoke will be settling in. we will see the temperatures in the low 80s for san jose, and 83 in napa. for livermore, expect a high of 85 degrees. we'll talk more about more changes ahead in our weekend forecast. >>> mike, you are saying the alert does continue right now? >> it does. you know where the casino is, we have slowing when you get to the expressway. we have a closure for golf course drive. only the middle lane gets by. major damage, but no major injuries reported. not a lot of slow

meteorologist, kari hall is tracking what we can see weather-wise out there.see the fog so we know it's cooler in san francisco. how is it shaping up in other parts of the bay? >> we are going to see clouds all across the bay area. it's going to be hard to get rid of the clouds. maybe even just a peek of sunshine here and there, something we are not used to. we are also, i guess unfortunately, not used to seeing a lot of green dots here. we will have better air quality today as we see the system sweeping through. it's bringing in fresher air quality conditions for the bay area. as you are stepping out in concord, it's 61 degrees. we are still going to be at 61 degrees through about 9:00 and then seeing our temperatures slowly warming up from there with a mix of sun and clouds. as we head to the south bay, look at the highs for this afternoon. very nice. even a little cooler than normal, reaching up to about 74 degrees in morgan hill and los gatos, and the east bay seeing temperatures in the mid-70s. oakland reaching 68 degrees. you can see that 7-day forecast

kari hall getting us up-to-date on what we can expect on the weekend forecast. it's something a lot of us love to talk about. >> yeah, let's get out the door this morning, enjoy the day and then after work maybe head to south 1st street in san jose to check out the artwork and live music and things going on there. it will be in the 80s at the start but then will cool off and be very comfortable. in san francisco, the game will be in the mid-60s at first pitch, and it's always chilly there at oracle park. and then if you want to head out to the pumpkin patch, dress the kids warm. temperatures reaching up to about 70 degrees, and that's really nice especially if the kids want to wear their costumes out there and take the cute pictures. if you want to head to the beach this weekend, it will be popular because the valleys will be heating up. coastal temperatures in the 60s to 70s. santa cruz the warmest with upper 70s. if you want to see fall colors, you have to take a drive and go to the lake. beautiful fall color here. you do have to go up to about 9,000 feet befo

kari hall has been tracking that. is it a day we can go outside and have lunch? >> absolutely.e again, it's been so nice out there. and the air quality is better so we don't have to worry about breathing in smoke, especially for the inland valleys. the cold front comes in, bringing in fresher breezes but also all the clouds rolling by over the south bay and that will continue today and most likely the next couple of days until that system moves on. so with that cold front sweeping through, it's cooling down our temperatures but we'll warm up this weekend. live look outside in walnut creek if you're about to head out for lunch there. right now 63 degrees. and we can see clouds filtering that sunshine. headed toward the low 70s for the middle of the day. this is a big cooldown compared to yesterday in some spots about 5 to 10 degrees cooler and our high temperatures only headed toward the low 70s today. for morgan hill expect a high of 74. now at the start of the week we now we can leave the air o and the east bay we're mostly looking at highs reaching into the mid-70s. 75 in dan

>> meteorologist, kari hall? >> you got it. she has the forecast. oking out there, kari? >> we are starting out with clouds this morning that will hang around throughout today this next cold front moves into the bay area. going to continue to drop our temperatures as we're seeing the system passing by with not a lot of green on here, which would indicate some rain. we are looking at temperatures cooling down today, and it's heading toward 73 in milpitas and san jose. 73 as well in gilroy with a breezy wind and peeks of sunshine. the 7-day forecast is coming up at the bottom of the screen. as we head towards 74 in livermore as well as walnut creek, and hayward today staying in the upper 60s. near the coast we have lower 60s. at times fog rolling by, but otherwise a mainly cloudy sky. upper 60s for red would city. san francisco will reach up to about 64 in the mission district and 59 in the outer sunset. and it's going to feel nice and fall-like as we enjoy the fall-like weather. still, once again, cloudy throughout today and tomorrow as well as the fi
