meteorologist kari hall has a look at that. >> it's been s so nicee outside. yesterday therere was a cooldow but it did get really chilly in the evening once the wind picks up. we're going to see the same thing today. as we're starting out with clouds this morning, we're going to see it gradually clearing up, going from 55 in san jose this morning at 8:00 to about 59 degrees at 10:00. a slow warm-up as we briefly touch the low 70s and then come right back down into the 60s going into this evening. so we're only looking at a high of about 73 degrees today, 73 in dublin and also 73 in martinez. a lot of these temperatures a little bit lower than what we typically see for the end of may, and this is what we'll see for a few more days. we'll talk more about that coming up. >>> mike, you were tracking a small fire off of 101. >> just off the shoulder here, 101 northbound, right around capitol expressway near the on and off-ramps. it should be out in the next couple of seconds. no slowing past the scene and no closures associated with that. we'll track the rest of t

meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring it. we're seeing a little rain coming down there. >> yeah, it's a pretty steady rain in the north bay and we'll continue to see more of it as we head throughout the morning. it all depends on where you are because most of us are seeing downpours, but there's a little bit of a break for much of contra costa county and it's starting to fill into alameda county as well. as you head out for work in mountain view, it's going to be raining and that steady rain continues into the next several hours, adding onto the rainfall totals we already had. and there was a few isolated thunderstorms yesterday, but i do think today it's more of the rain variety as we are going to see the possibility of some more rain heading into the afternoon, as well as the evening. so this is holding on a little bit longer. we'll talk about what else to expect in our forecast coming up. >>> mike, you have a look at some gas prices around the bay area. >> word of caution, use the gas sparingly because it is wet around the

meteorologist kari hall joins me now. you've been tracking this big melt for some time now, with the summer temperatures they are already heading up, especially in the central valley area there. i mean, we've really got to keep track of the situation. >> absolutely, because as the uc berkeley central sierra snow lab measured more than double their usual amount of snow. they're saying about 34% of that has melted in the past five weeks, some of it e evaporates, some soaks into the ground, some flows down the sierra into those rivers and makes them flow quickly and causes it to be dangerous. so over the next several months, weeks, the yosemite region will have the highest impact as we go toward the next couple of weeks. the tahoe region a little bit later in the month of may, and that will create some dangerous conditions for rivers, waterways, as they're just saying stay out of it because it may cause a shock. we don't know, also, what it has picked up along the way. so looking at the merced river in yosemite, here is a lo

meteorologist kari hall is here with us right now. i know that we're getting a pause on the warmer weather that we've been experiencing. >> it's still a little warmer compared to what we like to see with all the sierra snow, but there's also going to be rain on top of that, which could cause a greater snowmelt with temperatures above freezing. but we could see slow for the upper elevations, so kind of a mixed bag. for people who were waiting for the weekend to go and hike around yosemite, well, the next few days, the weather is going to be pretty dicey here with temperatures reaching into the upper 50s and then those overnight temperatures in the 30s with, also, the possibility of some thunderstorms moving through. we're also going to see big changes here in the bay area as the storm system moves through, and for the next few days we're going to see off and on showers, a chance of thunderstorms, and the sierra could see about 4 to 12 inches of snow through the next several days. so a lot of big changes here compared to the 80s and 90s

meteorologist kari hall is here right now. the thing about it is the temperatures, put a little pause on some of the melting of the snow. >> it's still going to be dangerous and we are expecting more flooding over the next several months as the snowmelt continues. but over the next few days, the people who weren't able to go over the weekend, maybe have an opportunity to go for the next few days, the weather is going to be quite iffy, even a chance of thunderstorms there. and temperatures that will reach into the mid-50s, could change over to snow with off and on showers into the next several mornings. we have a storm system that's rolling down the coast and producing very cold temperatures and even sierra snow that may total about 4 to 12 inches over the next few days. so we are back to winter now, and also seeing the snow in elevations above 4,000 feet. so we're going to be watching that. we'll talk about the bay area's rain chances in the forecast coming up in a few minutes. >>> heading out the door, mike has one of the des

meteorologist kari hall is monitoring what we can expect from this forecast today. and i think it's going to be nice, right? >> yeah, we have another really comfortable day ahead. it does start out cool with our temperatures right now in the upper 40s. it is 44 in palo alto and 52 in san francisco. we're seeing some upper 40s in martinez, as well as much of the north bay. let's head over to antioch, where it's 54 degrees. look at those winds coming in from the west at 29 miles per hour, gusty there as the winds come through the delta. as we go into today, lots of sunshine. it's going to stay windy, but our temperatures stay down, only reaching into the upper 60s today. there will be a couple of spots reaching the low 70s like fairfield and santa rosa. much warmer temperatures ahead as we go into the weekend. we'll talk more about it coming up in a few minutes. >>> mike has a look at lower gas prices. >> today we're doing the countdown. let's call out arco on north capitol avenue at $4.13. we visit an old favorite for marin county at $4.11, hq fuels on shoreline high

meteorologist kari hall of course has been tracking that. kari, a warm-up for the weekend and something for mother's day. >> we'll have some warmer temperatures but definitely for the inland areas. in antioch right now, it's 72 degrees as you get ready to head out for lunch, and we'll reach into the low 80s for the rest of today with a mainly calm wind and more sunshine. it will definitely be warmer compared to yesterday around the bay area except for the peninsula as well as the coastline. we're only going to reach into the mid-60s for today. for santa rosa, we're look at a high of 83 degrees compared to the 73 in oakland, 71 in hayward, and 81 in morgan hill. it will really depend on where you are. if you are going to the coastline and in san francisco, it's going to be really comfortable compared to the inland heat we are going to see with martinez reaching 91 tomorrow and 97 in fairfield. really hot there with some low 90s for morgan hill and san martin. going toward mather's day as well, it's also going to be well above normal, not much
