meteorologist, kari hall, is tracking that. who is this little guy here. >> that's my son.ne of our favorite events. we went last year, so i wanted to post that picture of him there in san francisco between pier 30 and 32, there will be the low riders and it's a competition, and it's a great event. we will see the morning start out in the low 60s and then throughout the day upper 60s, so it will be nice and comfortable. if you are going hiking this weekend or enjoying wine tasting in sonoma valley, it will be in the low 80s. saturday, upper 80s. not as warm as it has been, and temperatures are coming down quite a bit. maybe you will be taking your low rider along highway 1, and it will be in the low 70s on friday, and mid-70s on saturday and upper 70s on sunday. the tahoe area will have the chance of more showers and thunderstorms. we will see that continue for friday. you may get a break on saturday, and then you start to see the remnants of tropical moisture coming in, enhancing the threat of more thunderstorms on sunday. we'll talk more about our rain chances here in the

meteorologist kari hall is tracking not only the heat, but also the warning and actions from pg&e to those customers. >> marcus and laura, pg&e is following through with its power shutoffs due to the high fire danger, and that warning covers parts of the north bay counties. so here is the latest outage map from pg&e, and from what you can see here, it looks like the power is out in parts of northern napa county and the utility previously said only a handful of customers there will be impacted. right now we don't have any hard numbers on the outages, but parts of the nearby lake county are also facing outages. meanwhile, firefighters across northern california are on high alert, including teams in sacramento, who are ready to mobilize. >> metro fire is fully staffed and we also have our dozer and helicopter operations. if there's a fire that break out, we can attack it from a number of different angles, boots on the ground or from the air. >> this is northern california's first emergency shutoff this year. here is a look at where the red flag warnings are in effect. it goes until 8:00

meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring this. that's dangerous when we see the lightning strikes. >> yeah, because there's no rain. it's just lightning strikes, and it comes from cloud to ground and hits dry vegetation, it could start a fire. it's been farther to the east over the hills and we continue to see activity lighting up on the radar. all of this coming from a low that's surging in monsoonal moisture. once again, we can see from our san jose camera because it's looking to the east. we've seen lightning strikes around i-5, around the patterson area, and it is very humid as you're stepping out the door. temperatures warmer than we usually see, with some upper 60s across parts of the south bay and east bay. s with. we're talking about triple digits and we'll talk about the microclimate forecast coming up. >>> our top story, the fourth indictment of former president donald john trump and the latest legal case against him, he's accused of trying to overturn the 2020 election results in georgia. >> scott mcgrew joins us. this

meteorologist kari hall is monitoring that. we know personally those strong winds can certainly fuel those flames. how are things looking now? >> we are seeing the winds calming down and we are seeing a little bit of a change in the weather pattern. we talked about the weather setup that happened with a very strong hurricane well to the south of the island and high pressure setting up to the north. what happened was that the winds funneled through this area, moving from high to low pressure, and it caused whatever flames that did get started to move very quickly. we had about 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts. we're seeing the winds coming down to about 32 miles per hour and the weather conditions today are expected to be much better, with winds at about 15 to 25 miles per hour per hour, and some of the gusts reaching about 30 with higher humidity, which could possibly slow the spread of some of those flames, and hopefully that will be the case as we go throughout today. >> thank you, kari. >>> a number of people in the bay area are

first, meteorologist kari hall has a look at the forecast. how is it looking? >>> it looks great today. it's going to be cooler and especially for the inland valleys, that's going to make a huge difference. let's get a live look outside in san rafael, a few clouds overhead, but it is a nice, cool 52 degrees. as we get a look at our trend throughout the morning, clouds will linger a little longer, but that's going to keep temperatures down and keep us from warming up too quickly. at lunchtime we're approaching 70 degrees. as we take a look at our south bay high temperatures for today, in los gatos, expect it to reach 82 degrees, and also 82 in east san jose. we move toward the east bay with some mainly low 80s. all of this is cooler than we typically see for this time of year. oakland reaching 74 and 75 in redwood city. only low 60s for much of the coast and in san francisco, and for the north bay it will range from 69 in mill valley to 93 in ukiah. so still seeing some spots warming up. we'll talk about this and what's ahead in a few minutes. >>> mike, you have

meteorologist kari hall with how this month, i guess, all the different months are comparing. >> you know, scientists predicted this might happen, and before the month ended, because it was so hot, it's now official, july's average temperature for the world was 62.51 degrees fahrenheit. that's about 2.7 degrees warmer than the pre-industrial times. and usually the difference is by part of a degree, so this is really a big deal. scientists only started recording average global temperatures in the 1940s, but they do believe that july's temperature could be the warmest on record for thousands of years. so when it happened in may, we said it would happen again in june, and now it's happened again in july. climate change, we're going to continue to set new records. and, unfortunately, they're bigger margins that we had predicted. >> and it's intense records, too. look at the string of over 110 degrees in phoenix. >> yes, and those overnight temperatures would be 100. so there really wasn't much recovery. >> really tough for people there. >> we're seeing those effects from health effects.

is that rain, meteorologist kari hall? i can't tell on the monitor. >> it's been off and on, still happening there. >> my sister and mom live in southern california and they said it rained a lot yesterday, then it stopped, then it cam back and the wind was pretty heavy. >> yeah, it really depended on where you are. because if you called someone in santa barbara, they had less than a quarter inch of rainfall. i was seeing rainfall totals, especially in san bernardino and that area in the mountains over 13 inches of rainfall. >> wow. >> that's just unimaginable, especially this time of year. a lot of times you have a hard time seeing t moisture soaking into the ground because the trees just aren't readily available to soak all of that moisture up and keep those mudslides from happening. so we're going to continue to seehis t spinning across the region, having an impact. this morning we're seeing the rain shift toward the sacramento valley. the heavier rain is spreading toward reno and much of northern nevada. in the bay area
