let's first check the forecast with meteorologist kari hall. she's tracking what we can expect. >> it was such a mixed bag of weather this weekend. it was sunny, rainy, warm, cold. we're going to see things start to quiet down for today. as we take a look at the satellite and radar, most of the rain has moved on, maybe a couple of spots where it's misting and drizzling, but we are going to take a break until the next system starts to reach into the bay area, and that's not going to happen until wednesday. so we're starting out this morning, temperatures in the mid-40s for dublin, it is 50 in fremont and 54 in san jose. when we look at our highs, definitely cooler than last week, but this is about normal for this time of year. we're going to see mostly highs in the low to mid-60s, and a mix of sun and clouds for today. >>> mike, how is it looking on i-580? >> we have a crew, it looks like they may be moving after their overnight work. the span out of richmond over to san rafael is just fine. that's right here. 580 extends down through the area.

meteorologist kari hall is back tracking what we can expect. >> it looks great. had yesterday continues today. it is a cool start with our temperatures in the mid-40s right now, as we take a live look in dublin. san francisco, 53 degrees, the same in oakland, and 51 in san jose. for the peninsula, as you're driving this morning, it is starting out with a few clouds, there may be some patches of fog. overall we're seeing clear conditions and temperatures in the upper 40s, and then it will be clearing out today as we head for the upper 50s. but as we take a look at our highs for later today, we're going to reach 75 degrees in santa rosa. that is 10 degrees above what we typically see for this date. and then looking at oakland, 71 will be our high today, when usually we're at about 63 degrees. so the well above temperatures are about to change. we'll talk about that. >>> mike, you have more info on the crash in fremont. >> we talked about the mission cutover and it's actually on mission. let's get a closer look. mission is marked as state route 262 and i think that'

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that. >> at least we're prepared, right? we've been talking about it all week long, and then as you get to work people start talking about, you know it's going to rain this weekend. it's going to be off and on, and it's been such a beautiful week. we will have, at times, some rain and gusty winds, but there will also be breaks, maybe an opportunity to get outside. but not completely clear throughout the weekend. and also we can't be surprised if we hear rumbles of thunder. that will be a possibility over the next couple of days. and then some breaks in the activity for the weekend. going into next week, there will be a break on monday and tuesday, but then more showers come back for the middle of the week. so here is the first storm system that's arriving. we can see it kind of organizing a little bit better, getting its act together as it continues to spin closer to the bay area coastline. as of now, the rain is around eureka and crescent city, and that will eventually make its way closer to the bay area within the next sev

meteorologist kari hall, how much wind does it take to blow things away? >> as the storm moves in, it will pack a windy punch. let's talk about the impacts we'll see. it doesn't take much for a maple leaf to blow, just 3 miles per hour. you'll want to secure loose items around your home like your trash can. even at 37 pounds, it takes a 28-mile-per-hour gust to knock it over. and those kinds of winds will be common post those over 900 feet in elevation. gusts up to 69 miles per hour would be possible, which could blow over the average person. we're not expecting winds this high, but just for reference, a car could be moved by 90-mile-per-hour gusts. take a little extra time around the home to just secure those outdoor items before the storm moves in. we'll talk about the timeline of the rain as you make weekend plans coming up. >>> let's check in with mike for where we can fill up for a little bit less. >> we're trying, kari. maybe you're starting in silicon valley. that's where we are right now, $4.39 is the best, scattered around the city and county of s

meteorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect throughout the bay area today. how are temps looking right now? >> it's starting out mild, but it's definitely the umbrellas that are needed at this point. we've had some pockets of heavy rain and even some flooding in some spots. some brief street flooding will continue just for a little while, while we get the heavy rain. once the rain moves out, we start to see the water soaking in. we are seeing it off and on as it continues to move from south to north with the new wave of rain coming through in the last couple of hours, affecting many areas south of the golden gate bridge, the peninsula, down to the south bay and over toward the inner bay for the east bay. we are seeing some breaks in the clouds in dublin, but there will be a chance of rain throughout the day. our temperatures only reaching into the low 60s, but the sunshine come back tomorrow. >>> mike has a look at where we can find lower gas prices. >> higher lowers now, because we're talking about the approach of spring break and the summer blend is ahead.

meteorologist, kari hall, of course, always loves a beautiful sunrise.out what is going on in san francisco. >> yeah, if you are able to kick off your weekend tonight at the chase center and the warriors game. at 7:00 as you are heading in, it will be in the mid-50s. a cool and breezy evening, but at least we don't have to worry about rain. we will have quiet weather for now as we enter into the weekend. if you are in san josÉ and going to the sharks game tonight, it will be in the low 50s as well. if you are going to dinner before the game, bundle up. for the giants fan fest at oracle, there will be a chance of showers. we are going from the low 50s to upper 50s into the afternoon. if you want to see all that fresh snow we have in the sierra, if you are going to south lake tahoe, expect it to be dry today and tomorrow and then rain and snow showers moving in saturday into sunday. we are looking at light accumulation, but it will be slick for some of those curvy roadways. >>> mike, you have a little tough commute through the tri-valley now? >> yeah, soun

kari hall has more on what we can expect. >>> it's a gorgeous day, and on the weekend, we are going to have cooler and wetter weather coming in. we will take it in today as the sunshine continues, and also comfortable temperatures for the afternoon. it will become cloudy tomorrow with showers moving in and temperatures dropping with a chance of thunderstorms on saturday. now, a look at our highs for today, it's a few degrees above normal, in the upper 60s for the east bay. mid-60s for the peninsula into san francisco. the north bay in the upper 60s, but tomorrow we see the drop in those numbers as we see more clouds coming in and once again, rain for the afternoon. we will talk more about the timeline coming up in a few minutes. >>> mike, you are seeing one potential problem in the east bay? >> potential. the map is mostly green, and the sensors are what you would expect right now. we are watching for a possible problem for westbound 24. there's a disabled vehicle reported as you come out of arenda. we don't see slowing over the last few minutes, so i will think that everything is off

meteorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect weather-wise today, and it is going to be a wett of us. >> kind of off and on. we will see some breaks and maybe even some times of sunshine today. but we are starting out with a very soggy peninsula and south bay, and that also continues to spread into the east bay within the past hour or so. as we get a look at stormranger, it is showing good coverage of rain from san francisco all the way down the peninsula and into the south bay. not as much as you move farther inland over toward the delta, as well as into the tri-valley. but i do expect there to be some pockets of downpours this morning and possibly into the afternoon. we could see the off and on showers that may, a few of them, contain thunderstorms, but then we'll start to see things winding down tonight. we're looking at an additional tenth to quarter inch of rainfall just for today. i'll be tracking this and we'll be talking about when we will see the sunshine coming back. >>> mike, you're seeing some unexpected activity in the south bay. >> we have a number of reports whi

let's check in with meteorologist kari hall. we're welcoming spring. >> today is the official start of the vernal equinox at exactly 8:06 p.m. why 8:06? that will mark the time when the day-to-night line called the terminator intersects both of the earth's poles and the rays strike the earth perpendicular. from this point on, the tilt of the earth will allow for more sunshine in the northern hemisphere and moments of daylight increase from now until the first day of summer. bring it on. >>> folks, we will switch gears to traffic where we do have the berkeley curve. the great news is the berkeley curve is unaffected by this crash. but this crash is a big deal. two lanes are blocked west 580. on the human front, there is a crash that is a deadly crash resulting from three vehicles westbound 580 approaching interstate 80. we do have only two lanes blocked. there's still traffic flowing past the scene. this investigation will have to continue. we've seen a mild build, but a lot more slowing as crews did arrive. folks, you're able to

meteorologist kari hall is here. way you look at it, it's a whole lot of snow. >> yeah, and we are going to have a great start to our ski season, i guess continuation of our ski season. we're about to that point where they go out and take the final measurement of the sierra snowpack, and it is great so far. we're right at normal and the northern sierra is at 115% of its normal amount of the sierra snowpack. and we monitor that closely because we know it provides one-third of our state's water supply. and then we do have more snow on the way for the weekend, so it's been really difficult to find those windows of opportunity to get to and enjoy that snow in the sierra, with additional snow coming down this weekend. we could see about 17 to possibly 32 inches of snow for those upper elevations. we do remain in an active storm pattern as we go into the next several days. the first wave coming in tomorrow, with some additional rain and sierra snow coming in for the weekend. so i'll have details on that. >>> mike, you saw
