meteorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect. good morning. kari. good morning. and it was such a nice weekend for much of the bay area. it was warm and sunny today. just some minor changes. we are starting out with some patchy fog in some spots in parts of the north bay, as well as san francisco where our temperatures are in the 40s for the most part. we've even made it down to the low 40s in palo alto, but headed up to 60 there today. as we look around the bay area and those high temperatures, it will be just a little bit cooler than it was yesterday. as for some spots, the fog lingers a lot longer and we'll see a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day, but overall nice and quiet as well as dry. we'll talk about what's ahead for the rest of the week. but mike, you've seen some slowing now in the east bay. yeah. taking a look at the dublin camera. 580 moves fine just here. visibility is great here as far as we see in dublin. but as we look at the travel time traveling down toward 580, look at this middle number. that's vasco road. it has jumped up and we saw t

meteorologist kari hall is tracking that. and, kari, we know how fast those fires move with winds like that. yeah, and we're getting the peak of those winds right now as we speak this morning. we've seen those winds really picking up in southern california. even the san gabriel mountains, we're currently seeing gusts at 88mph in the chino hills at 67, 66 for rancho cucamonga. and in malibu, it's at 59. mount saint helena in the north bay is also gusting. at this point. we're seeing 66 mile per hour winds. the red flag warning has been extended at least through tomorrow, and we could possibly still see this particularly dangerous situation continue. a look at the current situation. it is now at 56 degrees, very low relative humidity. usually during the overnight hours we see the humidity coming up, but it is still critically dry, along with those winds that are rushing offshore. a look at the satellite radar. there was a little bit of rain in the area with that low pressure that caused this pressure gradient and those strong wi

well, meteorologist kari hall, of course, tracking those winds. and as crews go to the front lines. kari. i mean, we're talking about a critical fire here. it's been so hard. and seeing that the wind events that we've had have lasted so long. and then even when they do get a break, we know that there's more high winds on the horizon and still no rain in the forecast. as we take a look at our wind this morning, it is, for the most part, pretty calm in the hills and the mountains. it's been gusty up to about 23mph. and the fire weather outlook for today, this coming out from the storm prediction center showing the extreme fire danger that will be in those hills just north of la and continuing into tomorrow as well. here's a look at the wind forecast. we are expecting the gusts to pick up once again by late morning. 4555, even 65 mile per hour winds as we go into late morning into the early afternoon, and still some high winds and some of those hills as we go into today with extremely low humidity, making it really tough for that fire fight. back to you. well, nearly 800 california pris

mike inouye kari hall. i say this because this team hasn't been together for quite some time. over the holidays. yeah. nice to see everyone. new year, new you. l right. kari is tracking what we can expect. yeah, we're starting out this morning with some gusty winds and some milder temperatures compared to yesterday. here's a live look outside in dublin as you're getting up out and about. we're seeing some of those winds really having you gripping the steering wheel with both hands. because we are going to see those gty winds continue, at least for a little while longer. yesterday we were dealing with some really dense fog, mainly in the north bay and near the coast. but all of that has since mixed out and we're going to have a slightly warmer day with temperatures this afternoon headed for the low to mid 60s, even some upper 60s in a few spots. we'll be up to 66 degrees in santa rosa. san francisco 64 and 62, in fremont. we will continue with some breezy winds and well above normal temperatures, and we'll talk about some more changes in our weekend forecast coming up. mike, you

meteorologist kari hall is tracking conditions for those on the front line. yeah, we are seeing some lighter winds in some spots. and as we take a look at some of the current winds and we also look at the relative humidity, which is still critically low, only at 27%. as we take a look at the gusts in the santa monica mountains at about 22mph. so lighter winds to start out, but we will have another red flag warning going up as we go into the next several days. another prolonged wind event, but the peak of the winds will be coming in going into this evening, early tomorrow morning into the afternoon. our hour by hour forecast shows that at 5:00 tomorrow morning in santa clarita, we could see a 57 mile per hour wind gusts, 67, in moorpark, and it will stay very gusty throughout the day tomorrow with those dry northerly winds. and the santa ana winds will continue through wednesday. so we'll be tracking that. we'll talk about breezy winds in the bay area as well coming up in a few minutes. all right kerry thank you. well, as the firefight continues, many children

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that and kris. we've still seen some of these occasional wind gusts in the san gabriel mountains up to 60mph. and in malibu, we are still getting some breezes and gusts to 48mph. so even when we talk about the wind calming down, we're talking about it coming down from 100 from a couple of days ago. it's still going to be gusty and could spread some more fires. and around the altadena area this morning we're at about 35mph. the forecast still keeps those gusts pretty high into the afternoon. here we are at 1:00 and we're seeing about 20 mile per hour winds that will calm down to the single digits later on tonight, which would hopefully help with those fires getting more, the fire crews getting more containment. but unfortunately we are still expecting some high winds at times throughout the day tomorrow and possibly again later on this weekend. so it will still be breezy that dry northerly wind. and we are now seeing that this is the third most destructive fire on record, according to cal fire. and s

meteorologist kari hall is here. the fog in that area has it lifted? not yet. and it's still going to be in effect. the dense fog advisory through noon. so we've got a little bit more time left as we've seen the fog really moving around some of those areas. this is a look in san francisco where at times you can't even see the transamerica building here. and we've seen in other spots the fog is still with us, and it will be very slow to dissipate over the next couple of hours. still zero visibility in novato and santa rosa. and then we're also seeing that moving through san francisco down to san carlos and through the delta. but it is all clear in san jose, and we're going to have a hazy day turning windy later on this evening into tomorrow. and we are going to continue with dry weather, at least for the next week. we'll talk about what concerns we have with this forecast that's coming up in just a few minutes. back to you. thanks so much, kari. antioch leaders are expected to announce a new acting police chief tomorrow. the current interim chief, brian addingto

all right, let's check in with meteorologist kari hall and kari. how do things look at this hour?are seeing in some spots the wind is calm in some of the hills and mountains. we are still getting some some of those wind gusts. so take a look at the changes that we are starting with this morning. a 26 mile per hour wind in the santa monica mountains with gusts to 31. and we know that it is expected to increase as we go through the next few hours. we are still under a particularly dangerous situation. red flag warning that's basically a step up from a regular red flag warning, where the conditions are so critical that we may see some more fire starting today, or the ones that continue to burn spread in a different direction, and we are going to see those winds picking up going through late morning into the afternoon. but it looks like the peak of those winds will be hitting us by tomorrow morning. look at this. 7:00 in the morning, santa clarita, 57 mile per hour winds. and it may be even stronger for those elevations above 3000ft where we could see those gusts, possibly to 60 to 70

meteorologist kari hall, of course. been monitoring all of that now. kari, when are we expecting some of the most severe conditions to start up down there? yeah, i think we'll see it continuing over the next 24 hours. and this wind advisory for the bay area will be in effect until 10:00 tomorrow morning. and this is highlighting pretty much everyone except for the very low lying areas of santa clara valley. but take a look at where we are, where we stand currently. the highest wind gusts right now, mount saint helena at 74mph right now. so in the upper elevations, the wind is just roaring. and for the spots like mount diablo, it's at 47, while the valleys are at about 15 to 20mph for socal. we're seeing this disturbance that's moving through, creating those high winds, but also bringing in a little bit of rain. and that's where we are going to see those highest wind gusts moving through spots like malibu as well as calabasas. you can see there on the map there, those winds picking up 40, 50, 60mph, with the peak of the winds happening tomorrow morning a

meteorologist kari hall is tracking those cold tempatures. stepping outside today. make sure you take a coat. right. kari? yes. it is colder this morning compared to yesterday. the wind is calming down and temperatures have really plunged across much more of the bay area. we are under a frost advisory until 9:00, but we are seeing freezing temperatures in much of the north bay. santa rosa, sonoma at 32. it's also 32 in danville and just 1 degrees above freezing in livermore and just above freezing as well in san martin. when we say, oh, it's cold, let's compare it to the rest of the country because it's cold in our standards. but this is cold in everyone's standards. it is nine degrees below zero in minneapolis, and we're also seeing the wind chills running about 28 degrees below zero. so just really dangerously cold air plunging across much of the country this morning. so we'll be watching that. we'll talk about our recovery coming up in a few minutes. and for you, mike, you've been looking around to find us a little bit more of a savings at the pump. yeah, low, but

let's check in with meteorologist kari hall. it was so windy yesterday and it's still pretty breezy during the overnight hours. we are starting to see the wind calming down, but it is keeping those temperatures up as we see a clear start in san jose. it's in the upper 50s. throughout the next several hours we will see those temperatures continuing to hold steady in the upper 50s and then rising into the mid 60s by the early afternoon. look at our high temperatures for today, 66 degrees. we know that it's not supposed to be this warm in early january, but we've been well above normal and our temperatures will match what we had yesterday afternoon, which was actually really nice. and it won't be as breezy as it was yesterday. so in redwood city we're looking at a high of 64 degrees, also 64, in the mission district. and for the north bay, look for a high of 66 degrees. we are going to see more weather like this with more sunshine and dry conditions in the forecast. and we're also going to watch out for what's happening in socal wi

let's turn to meteorologist kari hall. what are you learning?e are seeing that that earthquake happened on the san andreas fault that goes offshore, right? just to the west of san francisco. and so as we monitor for any damage, there still may be the possibility of a few more aftershocks. so we're watching out for that possibility. it is all clear as people are waking up and heading out, and we'll be watching out for any more reports that we see there. but as far as the weather, it's going to be sunny and mild today and the weekend does turn windy, so we're watching for the gusty winds as well as the dry january weather. let's now go to ginger conejero saab. she's live in the city. ginger, i understand you felt the eaearthquake we did. laura. you know, it was a very brief earthquake. we k kind of asked ourselves. myself and photojournalist josh kepple asked ourselves. we were both sitting in our cars. what was that? you kind of thought it was one of the light rail trains that might have passed by or a truck that drove by. so it wasn't anything t

i want to head over right now to meteorologist kari hall. no, kari, you've been tracking this wetter weather, the wind speeds. that's something that we're seeing reduce in all of this. yeah, the wind is calming down, but that doesn't mean that we're still in the clear when it comes to all of these fires that are burning in southern california. just to give you some perspective of where the four largest fires are burning at this point, and as we take a look at wind speeds, they're still at 30 to 40mph even this morning, which is expected to continue into the afternoon. and it's blowing offshore. so that's that very dry wind with extremely low humidity. and look at friday morning. we're still looking at 50 mile per hour winds around santa clarita and thousand oaks and calabasas, 61 mile per hour winds. so we are definitely not in the clear just yet. it's still going to be very breezy into much of the weekend, and then eventually starting to see some slightly higher humidity, but unfortunately, the window of a calm wind is not that big. we're go

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that. kari, we've seen how powerful it is when those firefighters can get a tiny break and get back up into the air. yeah, they've been getting only small breaks here and there. here's a look at our current wind gusts that we're getting right now in the san gabriel mountains. 60 mile per hour winds in malibu. we're still getting some of those. gusts to 48. rancho cucamonga is now at 35 and calabasas at 25. even here in the bay area in the north bay, we're getting some breezy winds in the higher elevations. here's a look at the wind forecast as we go throughout the day. once again, in some spots it is a little bit lighter as we're getting those winds at about 30 to 40mph, but still very gusty and into the afternoon. gradually the wind is expected to subside and then we'll see some lighter winds later on tonight. but there is not a long break before we see the winds in some spots, mainly in the hills, start to pick up again and around santa clarita by tomorrow afternoon. we're still looking at

meteorologist kari hall is tracking the forecast. down in southern california for us as well. kari. the red flag warning that's still in effect. it's in effect for another 13 hours, and we're still in the middle of this high wind event that we're seeing mainly in the hills and mountains. looking at the wind forecast in the next hour, we're going to see the wind at about 50mph in some of those very dry areas. as the wind picks up during the overnight hours, it looks to be very long. at least a few more hours of the high winds into the early afternoon. here we are at 6:00, when that red flag warning will be expiring, and we're starting to see the wind coming down just a bit, but still pretty breezy in some of those areas where we're looking at the eaton fire as well as the palisades fire, and then taking it into tomorrow morning. definitely much improved conditions with spots like malibu only seeing winds and below ten miles per hour, and even lighter in some of the areas around los angeles, as well as long beach, and then still for some of the upper elevations. it may be breezy

meteorologist kari hall, of course. been monitoring it. look, this is the first day that we've seen a live report from that area, and we don't see the gusts of wind. right. it's such a big contrast from just even 24 hours ago, but definitely 48 hours ago, when we were at the peak of that wind event. and we do still have this red flag warning for all of these areas shaded in red until 6:00 this evening. so we are seeing those gusts calming down, and we're expecting the wind anywhere from about 15 to 25mph. for some of those areas where we see the largest wildfires burning. and then in the hills, we've seen about 30 mile per hour winds that are expected to continue to relax going into this evening. unfortunately, though, there's not a lot of time before we start to see the wind picking up again. this is 10:00 tomorrow morning and in santa clarita we could see the wind coming in from the northeast at about 30mph and then continuing to stay quite breezy throughout the day, and even down to malibu, where at 7:00 tomorrow evening, we're looking

meteorologist kari hall, of course. here with us. i spoke to some friends down there.y say their power is off right now. and we know that the wind gusts they're adding to that fire danger. yeah. and so they haven't had nearly as much rain as we've had here in the bay area. it is still extremely dry, creating that particularly dangerous red flag warning that we are seeing right now that has been extended through possibly friday morning for some parts of socal for all of those areas shaded in red. and then looking at the bigger picture, there was actually a little bit of rain in the area, and now a lot of that rain is falling apart without making it to the coast. and spots like malibu, where we're still extremely dry and starting to see those winds increasing. here's a look at the forecast for today. looking at 50, possibly 60mph. and it may be even higher for some of those hills in the areas around santa clarita. but then look at 70 to possibly 80mph. and as we mentioned, it could briefly get as high as 100mph. it is breezy here in the bay area. we have a wind advisory,

meteorologist kari hall, of course, been monitoring what's going on down there as well as here at home. but we see there that fire danger. i mean, it's still big and present. yeah. so this red flag warning continues through tomorrow evening. so any time between now and thewe could see the wind kicking up. as well as that humidity levels, the humidity levels dropping to what could possibly spread some of those embers a lot more quickly, even with a light wind. so all of southern california included in that, especially in those areas near the fire. let's go through our hour by hour wind forecast, where we are expecting 40 to 50 mile per hour winds in the next hour. and although they may not be feeling this in a lot of the low lying areas in the hills and mountains, this is where we could still see those winds gusting and into tomorrow. it looks like early in the morning where we see the red and the purple. that's where the wind will really get very strong and it continues into tomorrow afternoon. so still quite a bit of time while we're in this very critical area. and the weather conditi

i want to turn things over now to meteorologist kari hall. and kari, you've been monitoring those intense winds. not as strong as yesterday, but still very strong out there, still very powerful winds. and the red flag warning that continues u until 6:00 tomorrow evening. and it includes pretty much all of southern california, those areas that are at the highest risk of seeing more of those fires that are spreading. when we talk about the decrease of the wind, it's coming down from 100mph. that was the peak wind that we had in the san gabriel mountains in malibu was 85 for that peak wind gusts. and at the burbank airport, 83mph. and eve in the bay area in the north bay and mount saint helena, we had a wind gust at 84mph with this wind event, and currently we're seeing the wind in those areas in southern california, anywhere from 25 to 50mph. so it is still very gusty and we're expecting the winds to stay up throughout today and then gradually starting to calm down just briefly for the weekend. but look at 7:00 tomorrow morning. there's still wi
