kari lundgren is here with the details. it has been a little time coming. do we know what michael is buying? >> he is looking at this new macs. boeing has done a few different things to make it a better plane for ryanair. they are looking at adding 11 seats. that would mean pushing the rose two inches closer together, adding an emergency row behind the wings. a few little tweaks for him. we are hearing it is in the magnitude of about 100 planes. that would swell the fleet to about 500 planes by 2019. significant expansion. ,his comes after an enormous very busy year for ryanair. november last year, they were talking about how they wanted to revamp their image. michael o'leary has been doing significantly less in terms of publicity stunts. they have been rolling out their chief commercial officer instead. they have revamped their website. they are focusing on primary airports. they are really pushing. this would bring the year around. 12 months later -- alwaysiously he has bought jets when they were super cheap, when he could see a big opportunity to leverag

we are joined by kari lundgren. help me out here. i yes vote helps business?all the airlines definitely say the scottish voters should do what is best for them. what the scottish national party has said is that if they become independent, they will scrap something called the air passenger duty. this is a tax. it is quite a significant tax. if you are a family of four, you have about 400 pounds added onto your ticket if you are leaving from the u.k. they will scrap this tax. they say this will mean an extra 2 million passengers a year to scotland. generally the airlines are in favor of scrapping this tax. they hate this tax. if scotland were independent and they did stop attacks, the airlines would be happy about it. >> are they happy about the strike in heathrow? >> strikes never make airlines happy. to some extent, this is a fairly limited strike. a little over 8000 baggage handlers at heathrow. this is going to be affecting terminals 1, 2 and three. this company is one of eight and has a little over 1000 employees. it is going to be fairly limited. i spoke t

kari lundgren joins us now.e us a sense scale of what we are looking at. >> it is going to be a rough day for air france. 60% of their pilots are expected to go on strike. this is going to mean over half of their flights are going to be canceled. generally, when an airline tries to do in this situation is protect their long-haul and dump short-haul. air france has said you can't move pilots around. it sounds like it is going to be across the board, quite a few cancellations. they are telling passengers to fly another day if they can. 20 million euros a day is the cost of this. it is going to potentially go to monday next week. >> remind us what it is about. thehe issue here is about discount unit that air france is trying to develop. they are trying to expand that so it can compete with the likes of ryanair and easyjet. this unit has 41 planes. they want to grow to 100. they want all the pilots to be paid a little bit less. air france pilots don't want this. they want everybody to be paid the same amount. that i

kari lundgren joins me now. this was meant to be about transavia. the fact that we have not had a deal done seems to suggest that the pilots' objective may be different. >> it seems they are still worried about the transavia side of things and how that is going to be. there is a cap on it. 14 planes, it can't grow beyond that. point, the question is how that is going to grow. what the pilots are worried about is whether the contract , whether theing terms and conditions for those contracts are going to be different. they are worried that if you are an air france pilot, are you going to be under a different contract? this is something they are concerned about. >> are we any closer to this strike ending? >> we had a statement from the board today. we had a statement from the sky team pilots alliance association. both sides have their backers. the board was very much saying, if we are going to grow trans avioa france, it has to be a low-cost thing. they dismissed having one tract across the board. we haven't heard much this morning yet. one would hope
