meteorologist bill karins is here. fires last week, flooding this week, and now a tropical storm? >> i think we'll be talking about it the next seven, eight days in a row. >> that long? >> yes. just got the new update. storm continues to be weak, unorganized. has 48 hours before it gets to areas around puerto rico and haiti. starting to move through barbados and lower and lesser antilles. the forecast path takes it on wednesday across haiti and dominican republic. then it will slow down, stall out slowly through the bahamas through the upcoming weekend. the hurricane has 60-mile-an-hour winds estimated off the florida east coast by sunday. and at that point, the storm could move somewhere closer to the southeast as we go into monday or tuesday. you can notice the latest forecast, all these lines are different weather computer models that show us where the storm could potentially head. notice the left turn toward the end of the forecast. we have to closely watch the southeast coast. also if you're in iowa, mib minimum or wisconsin you'll deal with thunderstorms. later today chicago

. >>> nbc meteorologist bill karins watching weather here in the united states for us. some interesting story lines to talk about over the weekend. >> we had the heat which continues and the dry weather. and then the humidity in the eastern seaboard. just craziness. so let's show you what's going on. the country, this is very typical this time of the year. all the humidity and all the warmth and moisture comes off the gulf of mexico. that's the green shaded areas there. those are the dew point numbers. not the temperature. it's more of a representation of how much moisture is in the air. everyone in the eastern half is complaining about how humid it is. from dallas to chicago to the east coast, that's the case. humidity levels relatively low where you'd expect them to be. that's why it's harder to get those afternoon thunderstorms. yesterday was another hot day in phoenix at 112. notice it was hot pretty much everywhere from minneapolis to boston and everywhere in between. few exceptions like areas like seattle and san francisco. a little cooler there because of the wat

now for a look at the weather, bill karins is here. you became a king when your kids were born, right? >> of course. and a diaper changer. tropical depression number 4. breaking news out of the national hurricane center. this storm is far out in atlantic. this marks the beginning of the hurricane season. the peak of the season, when we can start getting the systems off the african coast. a little early in the season. typically august we start to watch this. this one has a long trek across the atlantic before it even comes close to any land areas. it doesn't look like it's going to become a big storm any time soon. about a week from now is when it will be somewhere possibly near the bahamas or maybe the dominican republic or somewhere off the east coast. we'll watch that for you. if it does get a name, it will be doran. the worst storms this morning are in oklahoma and arkansas. we have fantastic weather heading through the ohio valley, great lakes. it will arrive in the northeast as we go through tonight into tomorrow. >> oh, you know

nbc's bill karins is here with your weekend weather. we wish it was good news for folks in the d.c. area. >> last night was a bad night. still rough. the morning commute is going to be a nightmare, especially east of d.c. that's where the heaviest rain is. washington, d.c. last night picked up about four inches of rain in about six hours. we have flash flood warnings all through the downtown area of washington, d.c. especially to the west of town around centerville and by dulles airport, four inches of rain officially in the last six hours alone. it is still pouring in this region. here's some of our radar estimates. by the centerville area, possibility as much as six inches fell in this short period of time. that's going to cause flash flooding anywhere. here's how the radar has looked. notice the red is the heaviest thunderstorms it and rain. it's shifted from the west side of the d.c. area now heading towards the annapolis area. right over the chesapeake. this will try to head across the chesapeake. you get the general idea. it's still raining in the area. by far the worst weathe

in washington, i'm karin caifa. >> a white house official says the president made the decision to speakght. since the verdict, the white house says, he has been watching the reaction in the african- american community and in communities around the country. >> hundreds of people gathered in cities across the country today for what many are calling "national justice for travon day." in chicago demonstrators took to the streets by thousands. at one point the crowd grew so large that police had to close off streets to allow marchers to proceed. in los angeles. demonstrations remained peaceful. a much different scene from last weekend where police were put on a citywide tactical alert after some protester became unruly. in miami. travon's father, tracey martin, spoke to demonstrators who gathered to show their support. they sang and waved signs. tracey martin said, "their peaceful support gave him strength." and in atlanta. rain did not deter demonstrators, who chanted "no justice for travon." the crowd there echoing the sentiments expressed by so many across america in the aftermath of the

nbc's meteorologist bill karins joins us now. you think we pull this out of the archives, right? we are talking about july here. >> i know. eight inches of rain in a day. the records in philadelphia go back 140 years. that's the most rain they have had in a day in 140 years. it's not just a little "broke a record" high. that's impressive. more rain than some areas in the west get for a year. let's show you the big weather story of the day. tropical storm flossie. it was looking impressive 24 hours ago. it died off last night. it's trying to come back with thunderstorms near the middle of it. it's a weak tropical storm headed through the hawaiian islands. that's an unusual situation. it's not going to do a lot of damage but should cross over the top of hawaii. winds will be 40 to 50 miles per hour. some of the higher elevations will get heavy rain and flooding concerns. that will be the worst of it. not expecting much problems with the waves bus they will be bigger than normal. nothing impressive on the radar yet. in the west temperatures were cooled by showers and storms in nevad

nbc meteorologist bill karins is here with today's weather. >> as far as the forecast goes in the west, a lot of that moisture got sucked into the upper level low spinning through the desert southwest. numerous areas of showers and even a few thunderstorms this morning. so let me show you what we're deal with on the radar. the green on the map shows you where the rain is. some across southern california, arizona, even into areas of new mexico. as far as the highs and the temperatures go today, notice that it's cooler. yesterday was very hot once again from boysy to salt lake city. not that mid-90s or low 90s is cool. at least not 100. and vegas with those clouds around. temperatures kept down a little bit. below average temperatures for you. and the beautiful weather continues in the northwest. right around 75. so as far as the rain goes and the showers, we have numerous areas with a chance of some of those showers out there including areas of the southwest. vegas to tucson, yuma, even into the phoenix area. keep that umbrella handy. you may have a downpour or two. in los angeles and a
