anchor karina. nova has been tracking the energy use and joins us live with to karina i'mma we all need a break at this point, but unfortunately, we're under a flex alert for a tenth day in a row californians being asked to conserve energy to avoid overextending the power grid. here's a look at today's outlook. the current demand does look much better than what we saw earlier in the week. but now cal iso says there are new concerns. the most extreme weather has slowly begun to change and now we're seeing significant escalation of wildfires. and and certainly what i think is now currently a tropical storm kay bringing a whole new set of challenges. kelly so says the storms and southern california cloud cover and smoke from the mosquito fire will decrease our solar energy by about 40 to 60 percent. that's about 5 to 6,000 megawatts. again, that's why we're under another flex alert until 9 pm tonight. the goal is to get through this week with no major planned outages which so far we have been able to accomp

anchor karina nova who is live in our newsroom karina. we are now on a level 2 energy emergency alert. that means your power could be shut off because the demand is so high they would need to stabilize the power grid. in fact, pg&e says they're contacting about hundred and twenty five thousand customers who might experience rotating outages for about one to two hours today. and right now is the worst time as people come home from work to office essential that we find ways to conserve in our homes in businesses. you can check your bill for your block number or you can go to pge.com/rotating outages at the very top you'll see a little button there. it says today's outage blocks the one on yellow right there. then you scroll down you type in your address to out which block you're in and then check below to see if you can be impacted block 50 customers are not usually included and rotating outages because they share a circuit with a hospital or other. facilities more than 50% of customers are in block 50 again if your power is shut off pg&e s

anchor karina. nova is monitoring the energy demand very closely. she's in the newsroom with the latest karina. well right now dan we're under a flex alert and a level two energy emergency alert. meaning rotating outages are possible once again, and you are asked to use less energy and over the last few days during this extreme heat people have been doing their part and that seems to be working in preventing massive power outages. here is a look at the online cal iso demand trend that's happening right now. it's updated every five minutes yesterday. we broke a demand record right now. you can see as we move along there. we're close to that forecasted demand. and in this might have helped lower that demand just this afternoon some pg&e customers received a message like this one on their phones. this is a pga and e. rotating outage alert saying the state's electric grid operator has issued a notice that rotating outages may be required today if the demand for electricity exceeds supply and an emergency alert like this one popped up on phones yesterday

anchor karina. nova is in the newsroom with more on tonight's flex alert and why tomorrow karina could be even worse. yeah. those rolling outages are a possibility today and tomorrow as we deal with this extreme heat event across the state. i spoke to pg&e about how the decision is made to cut power what areas are impacted and for how long you'll be without power of those rolling outages are needed. this is the real-time energy demand and you can see this this is the website that they use and this is the system demand in megawatts compared to the forecasted demand and they update this every five minutes on that graph so you can actually take a look at it yourself and right now it seems like we're in good shape, but this is what they look at when they look to see if those rolling outages may happen if we go above that megawatt capacity and that is why we are under an energy emergency alert one today from five to ten. that means you are strongly urged to use less energy the, california. operators watching
