and karine jean-pierre, she was a senior adviser to moveon.org during the 2016 elections. we welcome both of you to the program. matt, i'm going to start with you. it's been more than 10 days, i think, since president trump tweeted that president obama had wire tapped him. >> right. >> woodruff: during the campaign. so far, no evidence of this, investigation's under way weapon where does this stand? >> well, first of all, this term "wiretap" is kind of an old-fashioned term. what we have been readin read an most of the respected newspapers across the country, back before want election, through the inauguration, and afterwards, was that there were people in the trump team, on the trump team, who were under investigation for inappropriate ties with russia. there were phone calls that had been intercepted. all of this was reported. the question is was something done inappropriately? and i think that's what inge that's what the president wants to know, and i think a lot of other people want to know as well? >> woodruff: how much urgency is there around this question, karine? >

. >> i'm joined by karine jean pierre. it seems like a few people have condemned it. what do you think should happen here? >> well, if the republicans were really serious about condemning his remarks, steve king's remarks, they would have taken action by now. done what nancy pelosi's urging paul ryan to do which is to take away steve king's chairmanship from the subcommittee that he currently chaired and so they're not serious about this. but here's the thing, steve king is not someone who's out of the mainstream of the republan party, he is the mainstream of the republican party. you have a white supremacist that's 20 feet away from the oval office. you have an attorney general that has made racist comments. you have the president himself who has made racist comments, off republican party who's urging black people from the voting roles so this not surprising, this is the republican party we are seeing of today. >> i want to play devil's advocate against that because i think there are some republicans who say, look, i do not -- i mean what steve king very explicitly b

karine jean-pierre from moveon.org and ee is with us this afternoon as well. nice to see you ladies. i'm going to start with chris at the white house since we just had the press briefing last hour. really the big headline out of that -- well, there were several but one was this wiretapping accusation and what sean spicer said to try to explain what the president truly meant bishgs quote/unquote, wiretapping in his original tweet. >> reporter: and whether he's had a conversation about that. he said, look at what the president's tweet said, wiretapping. then there was all this confusion because kellyanne conway raised other ways, technical ways, in which surveillance could occur. listen to this exchange during the press briefing and you can draw your own conclusion. >> so that we can be crystal clear, what surveillance types was he referring to then. what would you consider part of that range? >> i think there's a whole host of tactics that can be used to monitor somebody either through wiretap or other ways in which you can surveil somebody. >> we took that to
