greta: more with karl rove. how about the recent numbers?it is interesting, the people who are independent and they looked sort of like democrats when it came to supporting obama overall, it looked like democrats when it came to supporting what they knew about the health care plan, they have moved dramatically in the opposite direction and they are looking more like republicans when they are posing a obama on this plan. for example, on the question of taxes, did you think your taxes would go up or down, the new poll, democrats say that they will go up. 95% of republicans and 75% of republicans said they would go up. -- a 75% of independents said they would go up. then there is some significant defections from democrats. for example "would your family be better off or worse off during the reforms?" 27% said they would be better off a 10% said they would be worse off. we have seen some defection amongst democrats. one out of 25 opposes the health care plan amongst the democrats. that has doubled in the last few weeks. greta: the health-care pl

jonathan karl joins us, i know they approved $2 billion more for the program.hat's the senate going to do? >> reporter: no guarantee they'll do the same thing. there are hurdles to passing that bill. a big one cleared a short while ago when senator dianne feinstein who opposed the program because she didn't think fuel efficiency standards were high enough. said she favors it. points out offer average the cars people bought got nine miles per gallon better mileage than the clunkers she traded in. with her support makes it more likely she'll pass on the senate. >> of course they have the vote fs it came up to pass it. i gather conservatives are opposed to this. why? >> they are adamantly opposed. in fact you see the overwhelming majority of republicans oppose this program. because it's mismanaged. look at chaos created at dealerships around the country. they say yeah, it's popular. dropping dollar bills out of airplanes is also popular. that said, charlie in my conversations with republican senators today, i get the sense they'll vote against it but will not bloc

brian: we're back with karl rove.aid signs show the recession is over that clearly the worst is over. do you disagree? >> i think economists are saying that the recession appears to be on the edge of being over. but we are going to have shaky resale sales and we are going to have employment persisting to next year. unemployment continue to go up. it's not going to feel like we're are in good economic times. and we aren't. it simply means we have stopped declining, plateauing. we may be able to start growing a little bit. i thought it was interesting. notice that the headline in the "wall street journal" this morning is about growth in europe in germany and france. remember, when president obama went to the g-8 and said you ought to try and pass a sim stimulus package like we did. told them to and both of them said forget it their economies are recovering faster than our economy is that's what a lot of economists are saying our stimulus package is retarding the day of growth not accelerating the day of growth. brian: s
