karl knows that all too well having lifted. the president on friday morning when he called me seemed resigned, disillusioned, disappointed, melancholy. i thought he was very reflective. it seemed to me that although he was not giving up the fight, he asked me in fact to investigate dominion and tell him whether or not i thought that was a legitimate scandal. still, he seemed to me to be on the verge -- he said he was a realist. he said that he would do the right thing. he seemed on the verge of conceding a bitter defeat. and that was friday morning. then later in the day -- and i reported that. later in the day his attitude seemed to change until over the weekend with the tens of thousands of pro-president trump demonstrated descended on washington and he drove through the crowd in route to a golf match. i think he was heartened by the defiance in the crowd, the undeterred support for the president. i think he was -- he was juiced by it and you know, all of that reflective -- disillusionment, he seemed to shed it and it was rep

remember that karl rove was called by president george w.ect, because he believed that karl rove was the architect of his winning the presidency. when you lose karl rove, that's a big deal in republican circles and in conservative circles. but what we're seeing, just as a result, you know, through peter's report there from the white house, and about what the president's doing and how he knows that there's no path to -- no path to 270, no path to overturning the election, but he wants to give his 71 million followers, you know, the fight, the theater of it all. that is why i think you -- poor senator langford is out there all by myself, pretty much, and not having other republican members of congress step out there and do what they should be doing and saying, one, calling president-elect joe biden president-elect. two, saying that president-elect joe biden won the election. and three, saying to the president, you know, enough with the games, enough with the theater. there's something bigger at stake here. and that is, you know, the stability

we have team coverage, karl rove standing by for analysis. mark meredith is in north carolina because that is a big race, let's start with you. >> sure, good afternoon. north carolina has seen record turnout for this year's election and also choosing who they want to be the state's next senator. right now watching face off against democrat kal cunningham. won his seat by less than 50,000 votes, all indications are this could be even closer this time around. after he admitted to having an inappropriate relationship outside of his marriage and has been criticized for his relationship to president trump. at about a way in on this, the first state to send out absentee ballots, early voting has been for the half of october and they show people have really embraced those options with more than 960,000 people voting absentee, 3.6 million choosing to cast ballots early on that as the state's 7.3 million registered voters and at this rate gets to be close, one other factor we will watch is still some 136,000 absentee ballots that have yet to be set ba

you hear what karl is saying. what's your advice to the biden team?> it's pretty clear what they should do, martha, i think the former vice president should make it clear that he's not decg victory. but that he senses that's the direction which the vote count is moving in. and he's got to say to the american people that he's ready to serve, that he is preparing his administration on critical issues. he thinks that's in the best interest of the american people. you know, just looking at some outside indicators. on taken aback by the circuit service clear the air space over at his house, increased the size of the presence around him. if they are doing that, not underneath political basis, they're doing that because their job is to protect the president of the united states and potentially the next president of the united states. that's the sort of independent judgment. the final thoughts, i'm looking at the numbers and i just see a pass on so many levels for former vice president biden. i really don't see a path right now for current president trauma >>

karl rove is standing by with reaction.tt tenney on the stunning reversal in michigan but first let's go to kristin fisher live at the white house. kristin. >> that was certainly a colorful news conference from rudy giuliani but it was light on facts. so much of what he said was simply not true or has already been thrown out in court and giuliani opened by making this really bold and baseless claim that a lot of this alleged inside voter fraud he is referring to came from one centralized place. he called it a nationwide conspiracy. and yet he failed to provide any hard evidence to back up that one specific claim special when it cuts to the claim o core of e democratic process. in pennsylvania rudy giuliani claimed fraud in philadelphia he said in court and i quote this is not a fraud case. what is he saying in public not under oath is different from what he said in court. moving on to michigan where the trump campaign dropped final federal lawsuit just this morning after two republican canvassers in wayne county now say the

why do you think karl rove is doing this? >> because senate republicans won't.ause the more the days roll on, there are concerns about what the end game actually is. i understand there are concerns about the georgia senate race, in control of the senate, and that may have a bit to do with why some republicans are holding back, others may get concerned about getting primaried or what their chances look like in 2024. but every republican i talk to behind the scenes at least said in the beginning that they thought president trump is just letting off steam, this is -- you know, he needs to exit on his own terms. the longer time goes on, the more really the implications are. and between the parallels of what's happening in the cyrus now and some of the changes at the defense department, installing people who don't actually have defense experience, but are political loyalists into roles, questions about whether this is going to lead to the intel -- you know, sensitive, classified information being released to try to exonerate the president or contracts or other things

strategist karl rove.s anderson and fox news political analyst juan williams. kristen, normally we would look at the data points that were presented with right now and by that, the latest fox poll that shows biden with an eight-point lead, the fact that there has been this explosion of early voting, more than two-thirds of the total vote in 2016 and it seems to be trending towards biden and delete developments like the big spike in the coronavirus cases and i think we would generally say fighting seems headed for victory, on the other hand, we all look back at 2161 under similar circumstances, donald trump pulled off a surprise victory. i guess the question i have is are we over learning the lessons of 2016? is this race really up for grabs are not? >> there are a number of things that are different from 2016 including that donald trump is the incumbent president, so if you are an undecided voter and crucially this year there are far fewer of them there and there 2016, you now know exactly what a term pres

karl: yeah, absolutely. a few more days and a week before we gut all of the states including some very critical states have tabulated the vote and given us the answer. brian: what is your feel, what's your feel right now for where the election is? the president feels pretty good and thinks he reversed things over the last few weeks, should he feel that way? karl: yeah, absolutely. the polls have been closing. some of that is natural tightening as you get at the end to have campaign and something else underway as people sort of said, i have to make up my mind and the president was closing strong. i thought biden had a good speech in warmsprings, georgia, but the joe biden we have seen in campaign trail, the little that we have seen had different tone before that. he has been in the campaign saying two things, i'm not donald trump and i will unit the country and then he's saying, trump has done lousy job on covid. since message is less unity and more vent on donald trump and let you know that i hate him and i

martha: chris, hearing cautious optimism from karl and from mo tonight.race beginning to count votes here, so what's your take when you look at all of this in the big picture, and one question i also is have is what happens if you don't get it the kind of election day turn that everyone is expecting to sort of balance out what we've seen in the huge numbers that have decided to vote early given what's going on? >> let me tell you something, my friend, people are wild to vote. we have not seen voter intensity like this ever. when we take out all the metrics that we can to look at how interested and engaged people are, people are just through the roof. they are hanging from the rafters here, and democrats are anxious, and republicans are on optimistic, and everybody scrambled. karl raises the exact right point here, we are going to increase by 50% the number of people who voted early or absentee versus four years ago. this blows the doors off a bunch of models and a bunch of expectations. one thing i do know for sure, nothing has changed, and we have seen h

whether you like karl or don't like karl, he knows his politics. he knows his political history.kind of a self-taught historian, and he's right. there are no precedents for recounts at anything like the margins we are seeing. you can lose sight of the fact that joe biden's lead in the three critical rust belt states that decided in the election in 2016 and again this time, michigan, pennsylvania, and wisconsin, is almost triple donald trump's advantage in 2016. and of course democrats conceded the election and president obama welcomed donald trump to the white house with that margin one-third as big as joe biden is now enjoying. i mean for many republicans, i mean they are projecting this idea that only -- you know, if their voters are the real americans, quote, unquote, by definition, any democratic win is illegitimate, won by illegitimate votes. and it is a scary -- in terms of kind of the long-term, small "d" democratic norms of the country, that republicans are indulging trump to this extent on what is only kind of a wild goose chase but a destructive one that undermines fait
