karol mason is president ofjothay college of criminal justice. uomo made his announcement at her college. she joins me from new york. karol, thank you very much indeed forjoining us. before we get into the nuts and bolts of this, in your view, what has caused this uptick? mr cuomo is seeing it is worse than covid? thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk about this important issue. what i like about governor cuomo�*s approaches he is looking at a local level and communities, where the violence is occurring. it is occurring primarily in communities of colour. one of the things they think is contributing to it is all of the ante violence work we had got suspended during covid and we have a lot of people who were displaced without things to do, no jobs, not able to go to school, no safe spaces for them to recover in, and i think all of these things a tribute to an increase in violence. i think we ought to remember as well... obviously an important point. how significant is the funding for extra resources and what sort of things are going to be
