karzai is claiming the u.s.s actually working on the taliban to destabilize the country, to justify our continued presence there. newly named defense chief chuck hagel left afghanistan after canceling a joint news conference last night. he met with karzai privately. must have been quite an interesting meeting. let's spin, guys. this was sort of an embarrassing week for everyone involved. chuck hagel goes to afghanistan, his first big overseas mission. it is in the wake of an attack that happened earlier. there is another attack today. we canceled a meeting with karzai because of security fears. karzai is out telling people we canceled for a completely different reason. and karzai has been publicly throwing stones over the past few weeks. at us. and this latest implication that we have somehow provoked these attacks in order to continue our presence there seems really irrational. but also, but also kind of i guess, calculated. to that, our general told reporters in kabul, we fought too hard over the past 12 years

next year is a big year for hamid karzai. international troops are due to leave afghanistan by the end of 2014. it will also be the end of his presidency. hamid karzai has already served the maximum two terms. the question now is whether the afghan army is ready to secure the country under new leadership. he has been laying the groundwork by opening a dialogue with the taliban and noticeably more critical of his close ally, the united states. travel to talk to representatives of the taliban is quite significant, but the president of afghanistan needs to convince the taliban to join the political process. he is quite concerned about the future that the americans will pull out by 2014 and so will the international community. farnows the taliban are from defeated and would like to join in the political process, talking to the government about the way out and the future of the politics. the taliban has been saying for the past few years that they do not recognize the government and that they still remain a legitimate force in afg

karzai insisted that they were misinterpreted.hat they were specific comments he made and he doubled down on them in following days, kerry said we're past that now. it is not an issue any longer. and finally, karzai talked about his intent to go to doja and qatar in the next few days to begin talks with how to begin peace talks with the taliban. somewhat controversial because the taliban has said it doesn't want to deal with karzai at all. kerry has said we support any effort that's made for the afghan effort to speak with other afghans about reconciliation and peace talks. the more we support them, the better it is. and he expects that karzai will go and make that effort. and he said about that issue, we're all on the same page. he could have used that expression about every issue that was discussed at tonight's press conference. the two men, men who know each other. if they're not necessarily friends, they certainly did not act in their body language or the things they said like adversaries. that's a little different than the wa

karzai has been in the headlines for the wrong reason. alleging that the united states is colluding with taliban and. both claims are unsubstantiated. secretary kerry's visit is happening on the same day we handed over control of bagram prison. an expected move we thought was going to happen but one that was questioned after the recent dust-up between our governments. joining me retired four-star general jack keane. former vice chief of staff of the army and a fox news military analyst. general keane, let's start with the news of the prison. the prison is being handed over to the afghans. roughly 3 to 4,000 prisoners are there. who are these prisoners and what does this move mean? >> well, this is something that has been negotiated now for almost a year. obviously we knew that we would eventually turn over all of our prisons to, to afghan control and it makes sense to do that but our concern was that the afghans have a tendency to release detainees prematurely. we find ourselves having to fight the same leaders and same fighters again. th
