where new republican governor john kasich signed a bill this year that would cut the time for early voting in half and cut absentee voting by almost as much. today the re-election campaign for president obama announced it would join the fight for a citizens repeal of john kasich's make it harder to vote bill. the obama re-election national field director sending out an e-mail saying "at a time when we should be expanding the number of people voting, there are some in ohio trying to shrink it." it's pure politics. the obama campaign telling people in ohio that it will help get the 230,000 signatures needed to put that make it harder to vote law on the ballot so it can be repealed. the deadline for signing the petition to get it on the ballot is thursday. the day after tomorrow. joining us now in studio, senator sherrod brown, democrat from the great state of ohio. senator brown served two terms as ohio secretary of state from 1983 to 1990. it's great to see you. >> great to be back. thank you. >> the obama campaign jumping on this drive to get enough signatured by the end of the week to put

kasich in ohio has destroyed two units, one afsme, one seiu, there's a big group of home health care aides at risk in wisconsin and so on in other states. so within the public sector at all levels of the occupational structure workers are coming together, allying with students, with the community, with what remains a private sector union activism to fend off these attacks. one of the things that i think is most inspiring is seeing the bottom-up solidarity, seeing the rank and file initiative, seeing the cross-union networking, seeing the people voicing their opposition to these attacks on collective bargaining in through mass actions, you know, that we haven't seen since public employees first got organized in the '60s and '70s and industrial workers had their upsurge in the 1930s. the question, of course, is how do we institutionalize that, how do the activist networks that are hopefully being created by these organizations in the midwest and elsewhere survive? when and if some of those unions do lose bargaining rights, and that's, i think, a challenging topic for conversation tonig
