and john kasich. >> it is about the economy. let's look at the record here. we are looking at economic record of president obama. here is the jobless rate. up and down we go. now it's going back up in terms of the unemployment rate. 8.2% for may. here is perhaps the most daunting chart if you look at three straight months where we see this decline in job creation. february looking better and march, april and may not many jobs being created. governor patrick is the president because of the economy the under dog again? >> isn't it funny we talk about the economy with unemployment rate in political terms first without talking about the impact for the families. job gain is always good news. we are never going to have the rate of job gains that we need until the congress passes the jobs bills that the president has put before them. >> we know that that is the silver bullet how? >> we need to talk about that because i know from my business experience and my government experience that investment is what creates jobs. in massachusetts we are investing in education, i

yeah, kasich did it. romney advisor kevin madden was the guy.nstrom. you can tell talking point they all said it almost exactly the same. yeah. "the boston globe." in romney's last full year in office, massachusetts grew bies 0.16%. they're saying oh, his last year was so spectacular it averaged out, what happened. what? huh? yeah, the claim that massachusetts under romney ranked 47th out of 50 states in job growth is true. the romney campaign has not disputed its accuracy. if the district of columbia is included. that was 48th. over the four-year period, massachusetts jobs grew by 1.26%, well behind the national meediam of 4.84. >> so he wasn't 47th. >> so no matter how you spin it, it was a crappy record on job creation. one economist quoted here argued romney's frequent argument that unemployment dropped during his ten sewer a false indicator. he said the unemployment rate fell because people were leaving the work force in droves. >> nothing he's proposing to do as president is going to improve jobs. if anything, it will make it worse. >> ste

in the great state of ohio, the fox news personality and "wall street guide" john kasich put his own stamp on the anti-union agenda. in some other states they would exclude cops and firefighters when they went after union rights. that's because cops and firefighters are sympathetic figures and who wants to alienate them by going after their own rights, but republican governor john kasich did not feel that way about cops at least. not at all. >> have you ever been stopped by a policeman who was an idiot? i had this idiot pull me over on 315. listen to this story. he says to me, he says, he says you passed this emergency vehicle on the side of the road, and you didn't yield. he's an idiot. >> unlike some of his fellow republicans in the class of 2010, ohio governor john kasich had no qualms after going after cops and firefighters. when ohio republicans wrote their law to strip union rights in the state, they included uniformed officers too. they were going to get hit like everybody else. the protests over this in ohio weren't memorable. they were big protests, but it was interesting to

coalesced to create the defeat for governor kasich's reforms, or what he called reforms in ohio and what governor walker did was much more one sided and that may intensify a partisan approach to these pension issues. i wonder if our guest worries about that, too. >> well, it was very obviously a divide and conquer strategy by governor walker. union and nonunion families have to come together to understand that benefits were never given and never given by benevolent ceos. as we move toward the 2012 election in november, i believe more and more people will realize if we don't have that voice, that 1% will control our entire life. >> do you think that -- and maybe we should just look at wisconsin because obviously this is where so much heart and effort went into this, dennis, but do you think that this race has psychological implications in november? and also, you have to look at what happened in san jose and san diego where voters approved measures to cut retirement benefits. what about that psychological effect? winner, loser? >> obviously we win in a winner/loser society. people pla

we heard governor kasich saying that president obama has failed to come up with a jobs plan.ney surrogates have repeated on the morning shows. are we seeing a new message, t president's plan didn't fail, raefro rather, that he didn't have one? >> i think that's right. you saw it start on friday when governor romney came out to essentially say, that president obama had been more focused on his historical legacy on legislation around obama care, around health care. than he had been on jobs. he also unveiled a new campaign slogan of putting jobs first, a little play on bill clinton's campaign slogan, putting people first. what you see here from all the republicans at this point is that they see a real opening for the first time since july, the unemployment rate has ticked up. it had been sliding down from about 9.1% i think in july of last year and of course, 8.1% and of course it ticked up 8.2%. they sense a real opening here. it's something that they hadn't had all year for the most part as romney has been running for president. so you're going to see them over the next couple

in ohio, john kasich blew up in his face. >> ron brownstein, it all depends on turnout.and older, tend to be more republican. 23% of the electorate 65 and older, that is up from the 2010 gubernatorial election. walker won then. it bodes well for his side. are you or anyone in your household a union member, that's a defining issue, yes at 32%, that's also up from 2010 so if you look at these numbers and i can't dig deeper because we don't want to give away in the early waves of the exit polls but seems both sides have done what they promised to do, turn out the vote. >> the union vote was 26% and barrett won 63% of the voters. if that goes up to 32%, presumably the 63 will be a little higher this time. that moves him much more in range, but the bottom line here is you have a state that has been divided almost exactly in half, that has faced the political equivalent of civil war for two years and i think the core question is did all this have to be? was there a path not taken? there were other states that got significant concessions from public employees without precipitat

john kasich in ohio, similar story there.ird tension between the state governors and i would say some folks in congress who are trying to get re-elected or bump up their popularity numbers or have a good term in office and the romney campaign which has thus far banked on the fact the economy is headed south or at least flailing. >> it's a funny situation because the economy is not uniform. in fact, ohio's doing okay as these things go. michigan's doing okay as these things go. florida, rick scott is touting a very, very small -- i think a .1% decrease in unemployment as like this huge thing to celebrate. romney at the same time is trying to tell -- i'm not sure it's going to work. it's not exactly a great job surge. but what exactly the conversation was between the romney campaign and scott is disputed, but certainly the romney campaign doesn't want these governors out there cheerleading the economy. these governors' job is to cheerlead the economy. >> what sense do you get of the relationship between romney and some of the s
