>> sure, kasie. it was clear from the word go that this rally was not going to be everything that it was advertised as. when organizers put it together, they had told people to meet at the metro in vienna, virginia around 2:00 so they could come into the city as a big group and a show of force and for their own protection. they got their protection from mpd once they made it to the district of columbia. there was no show of force. only two dozen or so with jason kessler the organizer of charlottesville last year, and doing the unite the white rally 2.0 here in d.c. today, the disorganization, the disunity, the lack of message was clear from the start. most of these folks showed up. they didn't even have metro cards so they marched into the vienna metro station and then marched right up to the metro card machine and had to slow themselves down to buy fare to get into the district. and the message was muddled from the word go as well. kessler tried to tell me in an interview that this was not a racist

i want to bring in kasie hunt. kasie, congressman collins is on the ballot. and according to new york state law, there is no way for him not to be reelected, if the voters choose to reelect him. donald trump won that district by 59% of the vote. chris collins was the first member of congress, completely, the first member of congress to endorse donald trump the candidate, before even jeff sessions did from the senate. his most loyal supporter and his congressional liaison during the transition. >> at a time when there was literally no one in the republican party who was holding elective office at the federal level who would stand next to president trump. chris collins is the guy who took that leap. and we know how the trump family views loyalty like this. but you're right, he's likely to be reelected. there is no real way to strip him off the ballot without collins' consent in doing so. and let's not forget, there's history of member of congress continuing to serve even when they're under a cloud of indictment. >> democrats as well as republicans. >> exactly.

>> reporter: that's right, kasie. i'll just relate to you what happened in the courtroom. cindy laporta, the accountant, was on the stand being cross examined by the defense and manafort's lawyer, kevin downing, was asking her about very complicated tax matters and he said would it change your answer if you knew rick gates had embezzled billions of dollars from paul manafort. then there was an objection from the prosecution and downing answered, well, mr. gates has that evidence, he's up next and about 30 reporters scrambled out of the courtroom -- >> including you, thankfully. >> reporter: yes. not as fast as i should have been but cindy laporta is still on the stand. there's some redirect by the prosecution. she's the accountant who acknowledged submitting information on manafort's taxes that she wasn't sure was accurate and turned out to be inaccurate and caused what prosecutors say is tax fraud. the same with a bank loan. she testified under grant of immunity and committed being complicit in what prosecutors call bank fraud. downing spent a while on the stand trying to
