kasie hunt, live in sanbornville, new hampshire. kasie, you did a lot more with jeb bush. we'll talk more about the addiction issue late in the show. tell me more about what else you learned from jeb bush. >> sure, chuck. well, briefly on addiction, for jeb bush it is personal. his daughter struggled with drug addiction. but something raised by the owner of the diner as well as a personal issue. but we talked about a wide voter of things, of course forced to answer questions today on that biography of his father that's coming out with the revelations that dick cheney and donald rumsfeld on the receiving end of nasty words from george h.w. bush. jeb bush talked, in some detail, with me about his brother, how he thinks his brother is a big boy who can handle himself and that it was his decision to do what he did and not the decision of others around him. i also had a chance to talk to him about marco rubio, his what's turning into his chief rival. and i asked bush today whether he thinks that marco rubio's issues with his finances that credit card, that house that he owned s

kasie hunt joins us live. kasie, if you will, decode this one for us. battle breaking out between cruz and rubio. cruz wants everyone to think rubio is soft on immigration. why didn't he want to go down that road with you with all those questions today? >> well, steve, i think what you're starting to see play out here is this tussle for conservative voters, the conservative base, the conservative media, between senator rubio and senator cruz. it's bubbling to the forefront as cruz rises in the polls and becomes the up and coming potential iowa front-runner just behind donald trump. so there's a lot of focus from each camp on the other one, with rubio going after cruz for his vote against that usa freedom act, of course a national security issue. and with cruz's campaign going very aggressively against rubio on immigration. rubio's team knows it's a potential weakness for him. he's backed away pretty aggressively from this gang of eight bill that he was pushing so hard for. but the reality is that cruz, as you saw there, hasn't come out and said that he

that's what we will be keeping an eye on. >> kasie hunt, jeb and rubio. is jeb bush going to attempt to take him on again and risk the blowback that obviously happened last time? >> reporter: we will have to wait and see. his team tells me privately they are not planning necessarily an aggressive hit, but clearly, if it comes to that, jeb bush isn't going to stand by and be attacked by marco rubio. rubio, of course, has just finished his walk-through, tweeting a photo of himself behind the podium, clearly getting ready for tonight. but the conversation that's going on behind the scenes is all about this "new york times" story that starts with this ad that's reportedly been cut by mike murphy and the team at the right to rise super pac, essentially the point of it is to show what general election attacks on rubio would look like and it focuses on abortion because rubio of course is opposed to exceptions for rape and incest, something that many republicans privately say is a potential problem for women voters. he also voted against the violence against wome

kasie hunt live with the bush campaign., i can't help but go back to something tim miller, the communications director for the bush campaign tweeted out basically in response to what will likely to be bad numbers for bush over the next few weeks. >> yeah, saying the poll numbers aren't going to move right away. of course our poll showing picking up after a disastrous debate for jeb bush. part of the reason he'll spend three full days on the campaign trail in new hampshire, he needs to make the numbers move to make his donors feel they're making an investment that might pay off. and they need the numbers to move here more than anyone else. with the monmouth poll showing rubio edging up into third place, it's a tough road for him even here. and judd greg was saying they've missed opportunities to tap into the family network, that bush has been so eager to distinguish himself from his family name that he's missed the chance to dig in here. his unfavorability rating is fairly high and he doesn't a lot to distance himself from h

kasie hunt and hallie jackson are standing by in what's a chilly morning out in milwaukee.debate we've had a decision on keystone. questions about ben carson's past. and now this immigration ruling. it what's going to be fundamentally different tonight, you think? >> reporter: well, i think the first thing to look for is how ben carson handles on that stage all of the allegations that have arisen over the course of the last couple of months -- or couple of weeks. excuse me. i think that we've gotten a preview of that in that he's really gone after the media. take a look, too, at this abc poll that shows that he's one of the most popular -- actually the most popular republican among all americans. only half of americans say that they like bren carson. that's much better than jeb bush and ted cruz, ted cruz down at the bottom with 34%. i think carson will rely on that as he tries to push back against these allegations. he sent out a fund-raising e-mail this morning called "vicious lies" talking about how the media has gone after him. i think we can expect that which of course

chris jansing, katy tur, kasie hunt and kristen welker. >> reporter: there's an old saying the only thing harder than getting on top is staying on top. that's the challenge for the carson campaign right now. they are not resting on their laurels. you heard what the candidate had to say. the only real numbers that count come next november. meantime, they are figuring out how to build on this momentum. it all started at places like this in tampa, florida at a bookstore. ben carson has been a popular author for a long time but now he's drawing 2,000, 3,000 people at some of these stops, sometimes three and four stops a day. people came here at 5:00 in the morning for a 2:30 book signing and then he will go on to lakeland, florida later today. we talked to some of the people on line, what is it that attracts you. interesting, a lot of them doctors and nurses so people also in the medical profession. young families, people who took the day off of work. in terms of what about carson in particular appeals to them, they love that he's the outsider and many of them also love the fact that he's not

chris jansing and kasie hunt are here with us this morning. good morning, both of you.ith the front-runner in tampa. >> reporter: i am indeed. this is where he is doing the latest stop on his book tour. doesn't start until 2:30 this book signing but people were lining up at 5:00 this morning. obviously the carson camp is very, very happy with these numbers but the question is how do you then build on the momentum. i just got off the phone with ben carson's senior strategist who tells me they're not going to take the focus off those early states. they know it's one thing to lead in the early polls, another to get the votes in the polls that count. so they've already put a half a million dollars into advertising in four early states. iowa, south carolina and new hampshire, nevada. they say they're committed to keeping those ads up until voting day in those states. in the meantime, they're taking a look at the polling and saying where are we building support? who are these people? what are the demographics and how do we engage them? and a big part of that support comes fro

ka s kasie hunt has more from iowa. >> reporter: good afternoon. been in the hawkeye state for a couple of days wooing voters here at the thanksgiving kreek weekend and what's brewing is a clash between him and fellow senator rubio. you are seeing colleagues in the senate start to go and support rubio. he's made a lot of controversial moves over just the few years he's been there that have turned a lot of colleagues against him but the fight here on the ground in iowa, thomas, is over immigration. cruz, of course, opposed that gang of eight immigration bill in the senate. rubio, of course, a key proponent of that and pretty personal on the campaign trail with ted cruz talking about rubio misleading voters and saying that he now, of course, changed the position on whether a path to citizenship is a good idea or not. but we are going to see that play out here, of course, cruz jumping up in the iowa polls in recent days as ben carson support started to fade and the question for rubio is going to be whether or not he can find an early state to win. if

and katie hunt is in iowa where jeb bush has a town hall tonight. kasie, we'll start with you.'m curious about that exchange, that divide that was exposed on the stage over the issues of immigration. kasich and bush on one side basically saying that trump is being unrealistic, when he says you can round everyone up and deport them. you had trump and cruz coming down emphatically on the other side. what struck me in the exchange, was jeb bush going to the electability argument, basically saying you can't say the kinds of things like that, because it's helps hillary clinton. is that going to be persuasive to them at all? >> i think that's the tension that we're seeing play out here, steve and it's a pretty classic one. we've seen it in many nominations where you have the establishment candidate who is making this argument to a general electorate. i think it was one of his strongest moments because he believes strongly. there was a significant contrast between that and his attempts to criticize marco rubio in the previous debate. i think we saw him find his voice. he said he'll lo

i'm joined by our team of katy tur, kasie hunt and hallie jackson all with me this morning. katy, start with you. donald trump is going to be filing papers in new hampshire to get on the ballot. i imagine he has something to say about these new numbers that show him kind of in second place or tied for first. >> the quinnipiac poll has him basically tied for first with marco rubio but he is above him by one point, well within the margin of error though. they are very paep wihappy with numbers but donald trump is still pointing to the polling in a lot of the early states, including new hampshire, where he is still above ben carson. he had been leading the pack by much wider margin in previous polls but this latest poll shows him leading ben carson by two points. he is filing in new hampshire today and he has been doing well in new hampshire. we are expecting to see him focus on that state. he is going to be releasing ads, campaign ads, his first campaign ads targeted to some of those early states, including new hampshire, iowa, and potentially south carolina later this week, w
