kasie hunt with more on the reaction from republicans to their presumptive nominee to donald trump. we're seeing in a statement there, kelly ayotte will support him, not endorse him. i'm trying to figure out what that means. that speaks to the fixed signals we're hearing from republicans. >> there are contortions at this point. it gives you a window into what the next couple of months are going to look like especially for republicans in tough races coming up in the fall. that senate math this time around. it was difficult for democrats in 2014. it's difficult for republicans now. and democrats feel they've expanded that map. if you think about people like john mccain in arizona, pat toomey in pennsylvania, kelly ayotte in new hampshire, every single time donald trump, if he continues to make some of thee inflammatory remarks he's made throughout the primary, they'll all be asked about it and they feel he's likely to be a drag on their chances. now you are seeing them be careful to make sure they say that they support the party's nominee. these candidates need the republican party. a

now to kasie hunt. ca kasie, good seeing you this morning. >> reporter: good morning. nice to see you, jose. >> we know a lot of republicans have been unhappy with trump at the top of the ticket, but there are some who are saying that it's time to unite behind the party, right? >> reporter: that's right, jose, there are quite a few high-profile republicans who seem to be having a little bit of a difficult time embracing this. there are others that are urging party unity. the group of people that's really wrestling with this are elected officials that have to run in swing states in the fall. so, think that senate map that currently has mitch mcconnell as majority leader, there are democrats believe, more seats in play now with trump at the top of the ticket. and it is a difficult path for people like pat toomey in pennsylvania. that's a swing state. rob portman in ohio, and john mccain, even, in arizona. he told a closed-door fund-raiser, according to politico, that he could have a tough time in the fall, because of trump. >> i have no doubt that if it is donald trump a

bring back kasie hunt there in louisville at the rally. question is does hillary clinton have a youth problem? >> hi, alex, they certainly had a challenge in the primary with bernie sanders with youth voters who have just overwhelmingly been in favor of bernie sanders. a gallup poll shows bernie sanders has a higher favorability rating with millennials over 50%. clinton 38%. look at the third number, trump 22%. of course the question is a broader one, right? what the clinton campaign needs to do is turn out that obama coalition. that's not just young voters. it is african-american voters and latino voters. together, if they can't bring those groups out in the same numbers we saw in 2008 and 2012 for barack obama, they are going to run in to a significant issue because trump has driven high turnout numbers especially among white working class men who tend to support him in higher numbers. the clinton campaign knows they have work to do. if you listen to how hillary clinton talks about this, she will say she has work to do with young voter a

welcome kristin and here in our studio marcus and kasie hunt. first, to you, katy, how is donald trump preparing for his big meeting on the hill on thursday? >> reporter: we saw eisenburg is going to be in the meeting on thursday. that's one way that he's preparing and talking about how he's going to finance and fund raise for his campaign in other ways that's not entirely clear he's personally preparing for these meetings with house and senate leadership and paul ryan. we know it is going to take place at the rnc starring at 9:30 on thursday. the first meeting is ryan and the second is with house leadership and the third later to is with senate leadership. i know that ben carson has reached out ryan to smooth things over to have a pre-meeting if you will. >> that was not asked for by donald trump but they right now are okay with ben carson to do that. it is unclear if a meeting has been set up or will be one set up. chris christie as well as sessions have been going around capitol hill trying to make sure the senator and congressmen are as open

msnbc political correspondent, kasie hunt, sat down with five republican women in another swing state sits down with me now. what did you find out from talking to them. >> thank you. an interesting conversation with these five republican women all voted for mitt romney and supported mitt romney in 2012. two are staunch trump supporters and voted for trumpen the primary and plan to support him in the general election, two voted for different candidates in the republican primary and plan to vote for hillary clinton. one is still undecided who to support. i spent time talking to them about trump and clinton and allegati allegations donald trump is making on the campaign trail about hillary clinton's enab enabling, as he puts it, of her husbands scandals in the nan 90s. take a look. >> for me, at the end of the day, donald trump is not a republican. he came out this weekend and said he will raise taxes and raise minimum wage. those are things not republican. i don't field beholden to vote for him. >> would you vote for hillary clinton? >> if i have to at the end of the day, i feel it's my

kasie hunt sat down with a group of republican female voters in northern virginia. ies have to say, kasie? >> craig, good morning. these women should be reliable votes for the republican nominee. in basically any other year. they all supported mitt romney in 2012, but they're divided on the subject of donald trump an they're also divided on the subject of hillary clinton and how he's been attacking her. we, of course, saw him over the weekend talk about hillary clinton as an enabler of some of her husband's bad behavior. i asked these women about it. take a look. >> for me, i think that's kind of ridiculous. it's blaming the woman because the husband made a bad choice. i think that's kind of silly. >> i also don't think we can comment on their relationship. they -- secretary clinton and president clinton have a unique relationship and there's actually a book on it. i forgot what it's called, but it talks about they're more than just husband and wife, they are partners in many other aspects. and i think -- >> it's called "the machine." they are a machine and that's wh

kasie hunt sat down with a group of five republican women in the pivotal swing state of virginia. inton campaign thinks they can win over. you sat down and talked to them. tell us what's you heard. >> there are some signs they could win over some of these women. of course, we talked to a small group, five women, all registered republicans. all who supported mitt romney in 2012. so you'd think that they would be united this time around. and what we found was that wasn't the case. >> for me, at the end of the day, donald trump is not a republican. he came out this weekend and said that he's willing to raise taxes, raise the minimum wage. those are things that are just not republican. so i don't feel beholden to vote for him. >> would you vote for hillary clinton? >> if i have to, i feel it's my duty as an american to make sure donald trump is not our next president. if that means, as painful as it is, if that means i have to vote for hillary clinton, i will do it. >> i hate that. i hate to hear that. i hate to hear that because i will do anything to not have hillary clinton in office

nbc's kasie hunt has been working her sources inside the stop trump movement and joins us now from indianapolisls like there were a lot of republican voters out there, who were not with trump at the beginning, who are climbing on the bandwagon now. how can the stop trump forces still pull this out with that happening? >> reporter: i'm not sure they can, and either are many of the people i've talked to over the course of the last day. there was, a three-pronged approach, win in indiana, go on in nebraska and play ball in california. strip away some of the congressional districts that are winner take all from donald trump and have ted cruz or kasich prevent him or them together prevent him from reaching 1,237. but at this point, it's hard to see how any of that happens. cruz is far behind here in indiana. he still could win nebraska or other states down the line. but that pact with kasich completely fell apart, they don't have the money, the stop trump movement, or either of these campaigns to really compete aggressively in california, which as you know, is really expensive. and then the third pi

let's go now to kasie hunt. good seeing you. with all these poll numbers and delegate math, what's going on in the so-called stop trump movement, or is that stopped as well? >> reporter: jose, the reality is this could be the last full day of campaigning for the stop trump movement. it really has all come down to indiana. if in fact these poll numbers are right and donald trump is on track to beat ted cruz here, the path forward for stopping trump is just so, so narrow. it was already difficult and it's going to be that much harder. now, of course you talked to people who are attempting to stop trump from getting this nomination and they insist that they are continuing forward, that they want to try to go on to states that are further down the line, california in particular is what they are talking about. there's also discussion of whether or not there is a path on the floor in the convention in cleveland. now, that, of course, kind of the focus today. we're starting to hear that maybe some delegates who have been supporting cru

msnbc's kasie hunt is covering the clinton campaign from detroit, michigan today. where clinton just wrapped up a speech to the service employees international union. as they look ahead to june, what is the clinton strategy right now? >> reporter: this was definitely a general election speech from hillary clinton here at the seiu. she talked about how they were reaching the end of this nomination process. she applauded senator sanders for challenging her the way that she has and said that they are going to adopt some of his priorities, like getting some money out of politics, among other things. but she spent most of the time going after donald trump. here's what she had to say about his business record. >> what little we know of his economic policies would be running up our debt, starting trade wars, letting wall street run wild. all of that could cause another crash and devastate working families and our country. trump economics is a recipe for lower wages, fewer jobs, more debt. he could bankrupt america like he's bankrupted his companies. i mean, ask yourself,

. >> msnbc's kasie hunt joins me with more on this breaking story. what else did the governor say?erry mcauliffe just earlier this morning talking for the first time about an investigation that he didn't even know was happening. and of course that investigation looking into donors to his 2013 gubernatorial campaign. one in particular that's been identified, a chinese politician and businessman, but who does have u.s. permanent resident status, which would make him eligible to be able to give campaign donations. but some of these questions, jose, a little bit more broadly involve terry mcauliffe's connections to the clinton family, and particularly the clinton global initiative and foundation that terry mcauliffe has been somewhat involved with. he was a board member there. and there's some overlap between some of the people who have donated to cgi and people who donated to his campaign. justice officials have told our pete williams that's the area in which this investigation is focused on. they also say this has nothing to do with hillary clinton's separate investigation of her e-m

so let's start with kasie hunt in bowling green, kentucky. kasie, no surprise there that it is going to be a full-throat attack on hillary clinton by donald trump. what is the clinton campaign saying? how are they bracing for that? >> reporter: kristen, good morning. the clinton campaign at this point i think, and you talked to many of her top advisers every day. they know that this is going to be essentially a kitchen sink campaign, and i think the question is, you know, how nervous are they about whether or not they're going to have more success in combatting this than all of the republicans that tried to take him on one at a time. the primary campaign enclosurely proved that he is teflon in ways that more traditional candidates aren't. that really presents a major challenge. i think that's part of why you're seeing priorities usa decide to dispense with the notion that they're going to stay out of this until the primary is over. originally that ad campaign wasn't supposed to really ramp up until after voting in california on june 7th. inste
