. >> kate larsen is live in dublin. what do we know about this investigation? >> well, that it's very much ongoing, and police are still trying to figure out the motive for why this all happened. i can tell you that this is the first homicide in dublin since 2009. so perhaps needless to say, a very unusual crime that happened around 11:30 last night right here at this town house. dublin police tell me that a woman, the ex-girlfriend of the president and a man showed up knocking at the door. the resident, who neighbors tell me just moved in the past week woke up and looked out the window and saw his ex-girlfriend. he opened the door for her, but then the man she was with kicked in the door and police say that's when she and the man started assaulting the resident who then pulled out a gun that he had on him and opened fire while he tried to escape from the house. police believe the male suspect also fired shots. the ex-girlfriend was shot and died at the scene. the man who she was with was also shot one time, not life-threatening injuries and is currently detain
