new tonight at 11:00, kate thompson is here with more. >> reporter: pam, everyone is on them these days, facebook, twitter. and that's what happened here. officers lost the element of surprise posting on social networking sites. in the early morning hours of december 7th. more than 100 police officers seized upon the occupy camp. some people knew they were coming. officers posting messages to facebook and twitter tipped people off. they tweeted statements like "working late, game day, starting early, and secret thing." that information on the internet spread, hinting at the scheduled sweep of the camp. in the future, to control the spread of information, sfpd says it will keep officers out of the loop. they will be told when to bring their gear and when to show up, and then they'll be briefed. they won't be told what they're doing until an hour or so before the operation. and this is not an unprecedented step. sfp does this for some operations to keep things secret from the rank and file. >>> new details tonight. richmond city leaders are still meeting at this hour. they're looking to a

as kate thompson reports, the federal government has given the okay to push that project forward. >> reporter: one instruction has already begun for the central subway. you can see the heavy equipment out in the street here in union square. the traffic cones, certainly sidewalks are blocked off, and there are signs telling people about what's to come. federal funding for the subway has not yet been secured. on wednesday, the federal transportation secretary issued an important letter something the project, signalling that federal funding is on the way, and that is critical to the project. the city has applied for nearly a billion dollars in federal funding. that's the majority of the cost for the project. now, the city will be able to move forward with this letter on the initial construction and begin digging the subway tunnel. when it's complete, the subway will run from china town to the cal train station on fourth street. of the subway is expected to open in 2019. >> construction of that subway means big changes for two bus routes starting on saturday. the 30 bus and the 45 bus wi

kate thompson was at the oakland city council meeting when it happened and is joining us live with the latest. kate came to a screeching halt. let's get to the video and show you occupy protesters coming through the city council chamber doors. police tried to stop them but they went into the chambers and into the second level. they were screaming and yelling. no one could get anything done. the city council stopped the meeting, they went on a 15 minute break. the mayor in the entire city council walked out of the chambers and into a second room. occupiers continued screaming and yelling. police were brought in but did not forcibly remove anyone. 10-15 minutes later in the city council came back into the chambers and continued on with the meeting. noticeably absent was the mayor. she never returned and has not returned at this point. this meeting was concerning cuts to budgets that were made. oakland is now not getting we developing money from the state. it has eliminated. not only are their services on the line, these are services people in oakland use every day like going to the zoo o

kate thompson joins us live with the latest, kate? >> reporter: well, pam, we are talking about 5,000 new parking meters in petrerro hill and dog pack and people are angry because the main issue is that the city is putting parking meters in front of their home. now we can show you some video where parking meters will be put in mission bay. there are a lot of people who have spoken out against this plan and they don't understand why they are insisting on their house. petrerro hill and dog pack, there is some confusion as to whether or not parking meters should be put in these streets. but a lot of people are angry because they feel parking in front of their home is being eaten up. >> let's compromise here and put some meters in maybe where they work and where they are needed, but otherwise get resident parking permits just as they do everywhere else in the city. >> so there are several city counsel people, more than 100 people and right now they are giving their comments to the "t," s . and they -- to the tsa and they are hoping there

keith thompson reports. katean bruno, residents of the neighborhood that was destroyed by the family of pg&e gasoline explosion heard from city planners on what they think should happen when the neighborhood is rebuilt. some homes have already started to be rebuilt. its construction going on because i want to put in the utilities and calm down some of the traffic that comes through this year. the plan was met with a little bit of skepticism from residents who are worried that their neighborhood will be significantly changed. that they're valuable street parking will be eaten up by roundabouts that the city wants to put in. they did get to weigh in but eventually won the plan is certified it is the city council that will make the final decision. >>darya: san francisco police say that 70 felons have been taken off the streets following a sweep targeting wanted suspects. most were found in tenderloin and taken into custody for outstanding warrants for violent crimes. 20 of them were on parole and four of those arres

kay thompson is live in nevada with the latest. kate >> it is all hands on deck for the fire department and police department in nevada. we are here at their rush creek open space preserve. this is where the latest fires were discovered early this morning. firefighters have been all day out here and getting them out. we have a video from earlier this evening when i went to station house 61. that is one of several firehouses that has extra staff on hand tonight. they have called in their reserves. there are 15 firefighters from marin county overcalled in early to help nevada fire in case there are more fires set throughout the night. most of the crews have been up for 48 straight hours because of these fires. the police also have patrols around the neighborhood. >> we have additional crews out. as a result, those officers and fire personnel located six of the fires before they were reported to us. >> there have been 56 fires total. fires started at 9:00 p.m. on saturday and again sunday evening and early monday morning. many of these buy
