katherine: dr. farris, you have dived into this research quite a bit can you show the highlights from what you found in your research? dr. farris: sure. the biennial survey called the workplace and gender survey, and in the last five years they added -- i'm sure the first time the sexual orientation question came up, and provided a window into sexual assault among sexual minorities service members. the research estimated that 16.7% of gay and bisexual men extremes dissolved in the past year, nine--experienced sexual assault in the past year, nine times higher than other men. and if you take that number about risk, the problems of different statuses, you can look at the safety of lgbt members from a different perspective. if you were to imagine all male sexual assault victims in 2018, 52% of them would identify as heterosexual, whereas 48% would not. that is an outside risk for gay and bisexual men. only 9% of servicemen identify as gay, bisexual, or other, yet they are 48% of circles on victims. --o
