. >> reporter: that victim has been identified as katherine alvarado. she was 20 years old. just a short time ago, i was able to speak to a family friend. you're going to hear from her in just a moment. she tells us that the mom of the victim is too distraught to speak to us on camera. now, police have not made any arrests in this case, but they do tell us that they do not believe that this was a random killing. a jogger found katherine's body just off the trail new year's morning, and the family had seen her on new year's eve night. when her mom knocked on her bedroom door yesterday morning, she realized she was not there. that's when she notified police. they started piecing things together and realized that she was, in fact, the woman who was found on the trail behind rosa parks elementary school yesterday. let's hear now from that family friend. >> katherine was such a sweet little girl that we all loved, and we are very shocked what happened. the last time i saw her was on the 30th. we were heading to church, and this totally has taken us, you know, unexpected. >> repor
