katherine clark of massachusetts. and congressman dasani of california. matsui: i want to talk about something else. in response to the tragic events of gun violence, our colleagues on the other side of the aisle repeatedly reject all calls for increased gun control and instead point to mental illness as a root cause of the grippingnce epidemic our country. and although i do believe that we must and i do believe improve the quality and access to mental health in this country, i do not believe that mental health ref orm can adequately reduce gun violence in this country. in fact, the vast majority of mentally ill people are not violent and never will be. to the continued efforts blame gun violence on the mentally ill only stigmatizes the mentally ill. atcher, thank you so much for your service. you are really truly a hero on this. there are studies that indicate that other factors such as a behavior, violence and availability of firearms are better risk indicators for violent behavior. than mental illness. can you speak about what, in your research and you
