katherine scott is live with the latest on the investigation. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam, mary morton was a mother of 6 and grandmother and great grandmother. she was shot and killed inside her germantown home yesterday. so far no arrests. friends and family of mary morton are incomplete shock after the 83-year-old was shot to death inside her germantown home around 12:30 yesterday afternoon. >>> this right here, this is not her. something that happened like this to her, it don't add up. >> reporter: police say morton was shot twice in the chest. she was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. detectives carried out bags of evidence from the 4 home. neighbors say her husband is in his 90s and has alzheimers and remained in the home while detectives investigated. the neighbors are in disbelief. >>> she was nice and walked afternoon the neighborhood and open with everyone. >> reporter: detectives recovered a weapon inside the home, but they have not released any information about a possible motive. katheri

"action news" reporter katherine scott is live from the scene at 15th and parish in north philadelphia she fills us in on the developing details. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. and police are still trying to make sense of exactly what happened here. the investigation continues. those two police officers were taken to hahnemann university hospital where they're being treated and they're expected to be released pretty soon but let me show you the scene right now here at 15th and parish. you can see there's some crashed-up vehicles here. this is the second scene of the two. this all started overnight at broad street and brown in spring garden. two undercover officers were driving in an unmarked pickup truck when they were broadsided by another vehicle at that intersection. that vehicle took off and the officers were taken to the hospital. meanwhile a 33-year-old driver of a white ford that you see here on this scene pulled up to the scene of the accident and apparently told police he got scared. for some reason he got out of his ford while it was moving and then

katherine scott is live now where more flights are still running behind. >> reporter: particularly on that flight where the pilot reported seeing smoke, it seemed like there was harrowing moments for passengers but in the end everyone evacuated safely. airline officials say it was coincidence, two emergency landings at philadelphia international airport in 15 minutes. one passenger woke up with an oxygen mask hitting him in the face and stressed how great the crew was. 55 people were on board the eagle flight operated by peidmo peidmont. just prior to landing the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit. minutes before republic airlines airline 518 also bound for philadelphia landed after reporting steering problems. an airport spokesperson says that the flight landed normally and taxis under its own power. no planes going in or out and was lifted shortly after 9:00 a.m. but some delays remained. >> it was a ground delay at philadelphia. >> a passenger from dulles heard the announcement of the inter come. >> there was a plane that could have had smoke in the cockpit and a delay and nothing

"action news" reporter katherine scott is live outside city hall to tell us what the new leaders willring to the table. katherine. >> reporter: matt, people have been talking about this for days now but the official announcement comes today here at city hall. it's going to happen this afternoon inside the mayor's reception room. mayor kenney will formally announce two new appointments to his administration. sources last week had told "action news" adam thiel will be the new commissioner. he comes from virginia where he served as deputy secretary of public safety and homeland security for the pelt. where that he was the fire chief in alexandria. branch kearny will serve as the new prisons commissioner. she's been with the prison system for more than two decades. in january 2015 she was appointed deputy commissioner for restorative and transitional services. her previous role was overseeing programs that served inmates with substance abuse issues. she has a bs in psychology from lincoln university and has a degree from bryn mawr college graduate school of social work and social resource
