same crown compete with the crown joining us is vicky kippers, miss minnesota in 1983 her daughter katheryns this year's miss minnesota. >> thank you for being here. >> it's amazing story and hard to imagine that this could happen katheryn, you're miss minnesota for this year's competition? >> yes. >> what did you learn growing up watching what your mother had done >> when i decided to compete i knew that i wanted to compete for the scholarships i knew that there was an experience like no other waiting for me because you get to meet women from all over the country, practice interviews, practice public speaking. i wanted that experience that i knew my mom also had. >> vicky, did it shock you when you learned she want today do this >> oh, my gosh i always dragged her to every pageant and my sons, too we would always go a lot of the miss minnesotas were like her aunts. one day she said, i want to compete. you do we really had never discussed it. >> what did you think when she said that? >> well, i said, okay, we're going to sit down and have a talk you're going to need to improve your grades.
