haidi: our global economics and policy editor kathleen hays. that's look at the other part of the inflation piece. the red hot oil rally is a key concern for price pressures. every indicator pointing to higher oil pressures. we saw prices drop to a high above $92 a barrel. su keenan has been watching all of this play out. what are traders saying that demand is being underestimated? >> that tends to be the view, and we have saudi arabia state owned oil companies saying that they believe we will very soon returned to pre-pandemic demand levels. the iea international energy agency saying, we are still one million barrels a day lower than we were in 2019. so there is a disparity there. so when you look to the market there is no disparity, let's drop it into the bloomberg. this market is as bullish as it can get. everything it's telling us is that prices are going higher from here and that's because there's a perception that the market is very tight. particularly when we look at the options that are being taken on much higher prices. then you layer

kathleen: it is probably more likely than it was a month or so ago. is it likely though? well, it's going to depend on just how concerned the fed has gotten about high inflation is and how long it will stay that way. is it going to come down to 5%, 4%, will it ever get back to 2%? but if you look back, first of all, inflation, how it is supposed to come in in the report just hours from now, owen's -- over 7% annualized. you have to go back to 1982. what was happening in 1982? carl voelker the former fed chair had pounded interest rates higher. economy went into the deepest recession since the great recession. in terms of the last 50 basis point rate hikes that is when alan greenspan was four years in come almost to the end of his first term and he did a 50 basis point hike. that is how long since the fed felt it was necessary. the fed likes to be gradual. let's look at what we are expecting in terms of the numbers pretty 7.2% year-over-year on the headline number. that is higher than 7%. the core red-hot as well. the monthly numbers, little bit of easing. you can see on t
