. >> one of them is massachusetts congresswoman kathryn clark that announced she's running to be housetic whip and joaquin jeffreys is on track to succeed pelosi as house democrat leader. if elected late they are month, he would be the first black leader of either party in korch -- congress. with us to talk about this is ryan nobles and national political correspondent and dean of public service, ashley and victoria are msnbc contributors. ryan, tell us more about the lawmaker expected to lead the house democratic caucus next year. >> well, jose, this is exactly what nancy pelosi was talking about during her speech on the house floor last -- yesterday when she was talking about pasting the baton to this next generation. joaquin jeffreys, kathryn clark, pete aguilar, they represent that crop of democratic leader whose have been here for sometime and all three have a great deal of experience but are obviously much younger than jim clyburn and nancy pelosi and diverse. you'd have the first african american leader and a woman and pete aguilar would be a leader in the highest ranks of the d

hakeem jeffries, kathryn clark, pete agular, they're making it official, their intentions to run for house leadership roles. is this the right time for a new guard to lead the party? >> by the way, jim clyburn has put out his letter too. it will be the current whip becoming -- or running for assistant leader. i think nancy pelosi and steny made very difficult decisions for them and that we are going to be very blessed to still have their wisdom and leadership as part of this caucus as we do this transitioning. we're the democratic caucus, we're a big, wide tent. these are all people that are there -- nancy and steny aren't going anywhere. we're going to be really lucky that they're going to be there with their wisdom, their relationship, their ability to say to somebody, you need to knock it off. they'll have the backs of this new team and i think the way this is happening is probably turning out better than many people might have thought that it would have been. >> let's talk more about speaker pelosi and her legacy. you also had the moment we're about to show with her after her add

clark updates, we'll have our ans answer. >> so what's your assessment right now, kathryn, who has the better chance of winning? s anybody's guess. i don't like to make predicts as much as some. i'd give a slight edge to cortez masto based on who i know about clark county and how the votes are likely to fall and typically, signature checking and provisional ballots if you look at patterns and trends favor democrats slightly. that also stands in her favor. >> elizabeth, we have this question that i'm anxious to get your answer on. do you think the influential culinariry union will have an impact? that means they're involve in a process of fixing mistakes like missing signatures or incorrect dates. >> it's possible it could help and i want to be clear that they're not actually directly involved in the signature checking process. what the culinariry union volunteers are doing is looking at the ballots that have been set aside for signature all available on his website. anybody in nevada can go now and see how the ballot is doing and whether they have a signature that needs to be checked. the culinary union is reach

clark and washoe county. there are ballots in the system that haven't been tabulated and reported and we know the breakdown. considering kathryn getting 60% of the votes as steve kornacki said that would essentially erase the 9,000 vote lead laxalt has. the washoe ballots should favor her there. there are 20,000 more on top of jose the 35,000 i just mentioned. there will be ballots coming in as steve mentioned from rural nevada including super red douglas county. so 2, 3,000, maybe 4,000 votes will be added to laxalt's total but overwhelmed by these votes from clark county and washoe county and if the trend continues, if, jose, she's going to take the lead by tonight. >> so, julian, we spent so much money on election equipment, workers only to have a number of states, nevada, arizona, california where it's taking so long to count the vote. how does this lengthy delay impact just this process, julian? >> yeah, well, jose, i mean, in many ways, this is a result of the push that we've seen over the last couple of decades especially by republicans to make the voting process if you take what they've done, you know, in the best ligh
