patty mickley and kathy dilber.n the defense intelligence agency. kathy worked for the department of the army. on 9/11, they began their day as they so often did, with a morning talk in the pentagon courtyard. patty's daughter graduated from the pentagon daycare center a week earlier. she had just had her first day of kindergarten. patty told her younger sister all about it. then they went their separate ways. that was their last conversation. kathy was devastated by patty's murder. she channeled her anguish into service. by working with the pentagon memorial fund. kathy says that was the tie that kept me here. we are grateful that kathy is here with us today. after 9/11, the staff, the family members and the children of the pentagon daycare center donated a small plaque in the pentagon courtyard. it honors patty and shelley marshall, another dia teammate slain on 9/11. her young children were at the daycare center that morning. shelley marshall's daughter chandler is now a lawyer who has helped to care for afghan r

but i decided to include kathy sullivan. i did a series of interviews with her and, you know, she's just a great storyteller. if you ever get a chance to sit down and hear kathy sullivan talk, she can weave a great tale. and she talked about being selected as one of those first six women and her memories of that day are just amazing. you know, she she talks about first of all, she was a grad student at the time and didn't really have a lot of money. and here she was going to be introduced publicly in houston on a stage and what was she going to wear? she didn't really have any money. and, you know, she realized, you know, she would talk to some people in the johnson space center and they said, you know, that's not really what this is about. you know, it's about the fact that you've been selected as an astronaut. and so she shared those memories and shared the memories also of that first day dealing with the media, as you might imagine, there was a lot of interest in these these women. there had never been women astronauts be

i'm meteorologist kathy trafton is here with more. kathy? >> yes, we is a beautiful evening in the view. also from lawrence livermore is just gorgeous. so we're in for a beautiful evening after a lovely weekend with fairly mild temperatures. but guess what? things are going to change in a big way and very soon at that. so outside right now, our temperatures are mainly in the 50's a few 40's and 50's and 60's. but by tomorrow, the heat advisory goes into effect. and by tomorrow, all of us and we're going to see big jump in temperatures. some of the inland areas we seeing numbers in the 80's and 90's along the coast will numbers more in the 70's and by tuesday that are very hottest day. and boy, oh, boy, is it going to be something else heat advisory in effect and numbers inland in the triple digits in many areas and even into the 80's in the inland communities. so we're in for some extremely warm temperatures. way warmer than normal. and there is, of course, an elevated risk because of the heat for people who are specially sensitive to heat s

kathy. yes, indeed. it will be warmer the next couple of days. it's going to be actually so warm that a heat advisory is in effect. >> for parts of the bay area starting tomorrow morning. now looking at this beautiful image coming from the east bay hills. you see, sparkling clear city lights, but also you'll see some areas of low clouds and fog. and so seeing that clouds and fog, you think, gosh, it's hard to believe it's gonna be a heat advisory. but in fact, it goes into effect tomorrow morning, starting at 11 o'clock through 8 o'clock pm. that's on monday and again on tuesday. so we're seeing this area of the heat advisory for the east bay and also for the south bay and also for the santa cruz to the water, not as likely to be seeing these really extreme heat. now the concern for the heat risk potential is concern for people who are especially heat, sensitive. so you don't want to be out in the middle of the day in 100 degree weather because that's what we're going to get in some areas. a

kathy, thank you. the portola music festival is happening now in san francisco's pier. 80 still happening tonight. >> this is despite past noise, complaints from residents officials, it marks the 3rd year of the festival in 2023. people in alameda complained about the loud music echoing across the bay into their neighborhoods. the event does continue until 11 tonight continues tomorrow at one festival, organizers are saying they will do what they can to keep the noise down anybody considering heading into the city tomorrow will probably need to add time to their commute. the giants will finish their three-game series against the cardinals that begins at noon. drivers are advised to expect heavy traffic on the freeways and the streets surrounding the stadium. of both before and after the game. also tomorrow, it is the folsom street fair. the annual san francisco event expected to draw big crowd many and whether all kinds of attire, the event held on 8 street to 13th along folsom. people will be dancing

let's check in now with meteorologist kathy trafton. more on our weather, hey, stephanie, it's looking beautiful as looking tranquil here. >> but not in mexico. we're going to talk about 2 hurricanes. one is in mexico. this is hurricane john. this has been here a while. it is being bringing very heavy rainfall for days. >> to southwest mexico and it's going to bring some more very heavy rainfall again for the next couple of days. and this is going to be catastrophic. we've got all kinds of mudslides and landslides, inundation indeed. speaking of inundation, weve got hurricane helene, which is taking aim on south west florida. we've got the florida peninsula and also we have this hurricane is taking aim right on the big bend area of florida. no one other watches and warnings in effect because this is going to be a big deal. we have so much rainfall heading our direction that it could be 20 feet of inundation. when you take into account the storm surge as well as the rainfall itself. and of course, the rain's going to continue this. this

kathy is check in with her. hit miss in terms of the clouds right now, stephanie, if we were at the beach right now in half moon bay, we would see gray gray skies there. and in fact, when you look at this podcast pod, it is interesting because as you can see, it looks like all the clouds are just really in the san mateo county coastline. but by this afternoon, more clouds start to head in our direction specially across the west marin county coastline and by sunset tonight at 7.22, look at how the clouds really envelop the entire point raise area and stretch along the coastline overnight. we see the clouds strengthen and by sunrise tomorrow morning at 6.50, you'll see some of the clouds already pulled away from the north bay and really still hugging the coastline and parts inland across the south bay. so how are we do in terms of wind will look at this. if you take a look right outside studios, you see evidence of the wind there. it is great evidence to winds, our rustling, all the leaves on the trees. how are we

kathy, what kind of weather can those drivers expect? >> with nothing but blue skies until the sun sets. it's beautiful weather. you pick the bay bridge, the golden gate bridge temperatures. the conditions are spectacular across the bay area. >> blue skies, the waters are blue of the bay and we are in for a real treat. we saw a little bit of clouds and fog this morning. but really it was kind of squished in there was a weak offshore gradient. and so the clouds and fog went away quickly. we're not going to see a lot in the way of clouds and fog for a while a little bit tomorrow morning. but it's going to go away and then just watch that. put this in motion for days. i don't think we're going to see much in the way of clouds and fog, but that's your first clue that we're going to have a warm-up because high pressure is in charge and we're going to have offshore flow of wind next week, especially on monday and tuesday. that will bring us hot, dry conditions and the potential for fire danger next monday and tuesday. and then, of course, by f

kathy park is in florida. what are you seeing where you are?reporter: jose, we made our way here, roughly 90 miles outside of tallahassee. the damage here is widespread. we are on the grant property. this is the house. the water got so high here, it actually entered this house. it's built high for a reason. roughly 14 feet high because there's a river behind this home. it floods here often. it never floods to the extent that we saw last night. the storm surge here, the initial reports more than 15 feet. i want to show you something else. a lot of the roads are impassable. this is. you can see part washed away. we are told that that river, it flooded and that water pushed over this bridge here, carrying debris. there's a marina nearby. there's someone's dock in this as well. swing to the right here. you talked about just flooded out roads and property. we see a lot of that here. this one almost completely underwater. there's a garage over here in the corner completely destroyed. it looks like it's submerged as well. we have a helicopter above us

kathy, what's your take? jay s powell is going to speak on inflation later today but a 50 basis point cut, expectations for another 50 basis point cut by the end of the year, to me that tells me the economy is in trouble. how do you see it? >> yeah, it's interesting because i think everyone was everybody wasunsure if it was 2. she came out with interesting insights and provided a road map in terms of trying to figure out what's next. i think with tomorrow's numbers with consumer price ex opinion s and things like that, if they're in line with expectations, we might see more cuts. maria: normally when interest rates are lower, stocks go higher. but there's two ways to the look at this. do you want to buy stocks because rates are going down or do you want to hold back on buying stocks because rates are going down and the economy is weakening. >> that's a great question. i agree on the second part of it. the other consideration you have to have is a lot of times stock prices go up in anticipation of cuts. so we'

let's check in now with kathy for more on our weather. hey, kathy stefani is a picture perfect day. you know, it's a great day to be at the beach because it's warm. >> and it's blue skies, warm conditions. and you may even have the beach to yourself. so head on out to the coast. if you like in the 70's or so right at the water's edge a little bit warmer inland. you see blue skies taking a look from the lawrence hall of science. it's a terrific day. if you like the warmer temperatures, it's just a great place to be the east bay. so you see with on this map, you see a little bit of that green right there. that's where the cooler temperatures are moving into yellow. then we go into the oranges and reds and we've got some of those. so reading the bay shoreline. we're seeing numbers in the 70's and 80's for the most part. 74 san mateo now 79 in los and palo alto. >> 83 for alameda and in berkeley, 82 degrees. but as you head inland. 94 degrees for livermore. and as you see in dublin is also 94 pushing up toward 100 pittsburgh 98 degrees. when we get there, it's possible 19. i just swiach

kathy just can't see it. it is there. i'm sure of it. but there's blue skies above great skies below in some areas. >> other areas seeing sparkling beautiful skies. temperature wise. today we're in for a treat 50's and 60's right along the coastline. 70's and 80's. even a few 90's at this hour, whereas it's 88 degrees in san jose. we've got a 91 for livermore, 90 in dublin. so it's a nice toasty afternoon. if that's what you like. she had to the north bay. we're looking at temperatures in the upper 80's for santa rosa. 87 there. and of course, green colors indicate cooler right along the coast with numbers in the 60's. the wind this afternoon picks up the peak gusts around 23 miles per hour through the golden gate. typical sea breeze for us. it dies down overnight and then again, we generate tomorrow afternoon. area of low pressure coming out of the gulf of alaska. so far, not much of a big influence on us, but by tomorrow we'll see temperatures come down just a little bit. and then look what happens on monday morning. there is a bull's

officials are saying there's no longer a threat with the suspect now in custody. >> kathy park startingoff tonight. thanks. i want to bring in tom winter and our law enforcement and intelligence correspondent and tom, we are learning more about the suspect. what do we know? >> that's right, lester, three senior u.s. law enforcement officials tell us the suspect has been preliminarily identified is ryan wesley ruth born in february of 1966. they say this is the person they believe was responsible for this incident today in what has been described by the fbi is an apparent assassination attempt. it was the quick thinking of a witness, lester that not only photographed this individual's car according to police, but also the license plate. they took that license plate, put it into a database and using license plate readers were able to determine not only which highway he was on i-59 and the general direction he was going that led to the arrest that kathy referenced earlier. lester, taking a step back here. there are discussions at the most senior levels of federal law enforcement as to the

kathy dispute the san mateo county sheriff's office is playing out in public view. one side says the sheriff is creating a toxic work environment. the sheriff says it is county executives creating the problem. today, the sheriff held a news conference to talk about some of these concerns. kron four's check moment. has that story. >> this has been a complicated back and forth going back weeks between county officials and the san mateo county sheriff's office. but this latest development today is that the sheriff tells us that the county executive officer is trying to intimidate and bully her into doing whatever she wants. she tells us today, though, that she's not backing down even in the face of a pending investigation. >> san mateo county residents who elected me as their sheriff deserve to know the truth about some serious political dirty dealings that is happening right now. weeks of he said she said playing out into the weekend and in front of the public. the san mateo county sheriff's as the san mateo county executive officer. >> it's pitting the deputies union

kathy: let's think about hydrogen in first place.the carbonized sectors like heavy industry and people can get subsidies by building this projects. while there is a lot of people who want to sell hydrogen very few company have commit because it is expensive and that is why only 5% of capacity plan has actually been financed. one reason why it is still expensive is electrolyzer is quite expensive and according to latest report it will remain expensive for much longer, clean hydrogen will become less competitive than thought. tom: i know china has a significant buildout in terms of energy capacity, where does china stand, are we set up for tensions between china and the rest of the world? guest: 75% cheaper in china than europe or the u.s., that is why chinese company want to export product abroad to get a good margin and this has become problem for western manufacturers. they have been lobbying against import and have been partly successful so this is a real question for european politicians. do we want cheaper hydrogen or do we want
