i want to bring in kathy park. she's following this story. what can you tell us?sey, good afternoon. this is very much a developing story, a lot of questions still unanswered. we do know, according to a prison lead e. there was an altercation that hall this weekend. larry nassar was involved with another male inmate. stabbed in the neck, and he suffered a lung collapse. according to the bureau of prisons, they released a statement saying that emergency wade raw rendered right away. weigh was transferred to the hospital where he is apparently in stable condition at this hour. there's a lot of questions house had unfolded, it's unclear who the other individual is behind the alter case. this happened in a high-security federal facility in central florida, where there's more than 1200 male inmates. a lot of questions about who the other person is, how this all unfolded and perhaps the weapon that was used. >> kathy park, thank you for those developments. >>> we're also following developments in the grand jury probe of former president trump's actions on january 6th. w

nbc news's kathy park is following this story from massapequa park, new york. ordinary. all of our eyeballs are, like what! how are the suspects neighbors reacting to this chilling news? >> hey, alex, good afternoon to you. yes. this is certainly a stunning development on a case that went dark for several years until this week. we are standing in brett sherman's neighborhood. directly behind me is his home. according to neighbors, many people say he did not see a lot of folks coming in and out of this home. there is a huge law enforcement presence here. detectives have been going in and out of the house -- it is not clear exactly what they are pulling out. neighbors say that they have not seen a lot of activity in this home over 30 years or so. they spoke to racks on the regular basis. they spoke and it was never the conversations we learned about the work on thursday in his arrest, they were stunned. take a listen. >> racks, you know, didn't bother anybody. he was pretty much to himself. a recluse kind of guy know. one spoke to the guy. i was shocked, you know?

nbc's kathy park joins us from washington crossing pennsylvania, nbc's marissa parra is in phoenix, whichhas seen 17 straight days of temperatures above 110 plus degrees. so kathy, what's the latest there? >> reporter: jose, good morning to you. the conditions have improved dramatically. it is sunny, it is dry. so crews out here are taking advantage of this improved weather to continue their ongoing search efforts for those missing kids. we just heard from authorities a few moments ago, and they say that they are tripling their resources. they are leaning on canine units, underwater assets as well as drones. take a look at the damage we are looking at. we are in bucs county, this is probably one of the hardest hit communities. this is bridge, part of it washed away. you have debris scattered everywhere. one official here in the town said that he has not seen anything like this in 44 years, and we also spoke with a gentleman who was on his motorcycle at the time when he was incredibly just swept away but survived. here's what he told us. >> so you were clinging onto trees? >> oh, yeah. >>

right now, it is at least to those three women that he is being prosecuted for. >> all right, kathy parkeciate it. switching gears here everybody. there is some renewed hope this week for some student loan borrowers. the biden administration announcing that over 800,000 people will have their debts eliminated intern action totaling 39 billion dollars. it is coming just two weeks after the supreme court struck down the presidents plan to forgive up to $20,000 in debt for 43 million borrowers. i want to bring in nbc news white house correspondent -- who has more on this for us. mentally, you and i spoke after this decision came out. i asked you if the biden administration and the president specifically would be working on a work around. it seems as if they have found one. >> well yasmin, the white house has been working on multiple tracks to try and deal with this issue of student debt. because they think it's really a problem for the economic picture in this country. too many people with high levels of debt can't really start a family. they might not buy a house, they don't have mobility

i want to get right back to nbc's kathy park who is in bucks county p a for us. kathy, if you will, we checked last hour, any updates in the last hour or so? and really, what you are hearing from local residents there with this incredible tragedy. >> yeah. yasmin, we are just hearing some horrific stories of survival, really. we just spoke with eli weisman, he is a longtime resident, he said that he was on his motorcycle with his daughter at the time when the storms came roaring through this area, and it was just caught off guard. he said he was actually swept off his motorcycle along with his daughter, and was clinging on to tree limbs just to stay alive. this happened in a matter of minutes, and i asked him, how did he get out? miraculously, he was able to get out along with his daughter, without any sort of aid. but unfortunately, as you mentioned, there were several people who were washed away, four confirmed fatalities at this point. three people still missing. among those three, two young children, and an adult female. and right now, crews are still working

joining me kathy park in bucks county, pennsylvania. marissa parra in phoenix. claudia is in rome. the tragedy for weekend storms in eastern pennsylvania, i know that area really well. what are you hearing from local officials today? >> reporter: good afternoon to you. the weather has significantly improved from this weekend. the skies are clear. it's dry. there is no rain in the forecast today. so crews are taking advantage of this improved weather to continue actively searching for those two missing kids who were swept away this weekend. it's heartbreaking to share their story. they were visiting from south carolina with their family and their car got stuck in the floodwaters and their mother is among the dead. we heard from authorities a few moments ago giving us an update on the search efforts. take a listen. >> we have search teams that are assisting us from delaware, chester, parts of bucks county, new jersey, we also have deployed k-9 units, underwater assets and air assets. as you're aware this is going to be a massive undertaking involving the coordination and cooperation f

kathy park is following the story for us.e know about the events that led up to this attack and about his injuries? >> reporter: we have a lot of questions out there that are still unanswered but we know according to a prison union leader that this supposed altercation broke out this weekend specifically on sunday and larry nassar was stabbed multiple times and also suffered a lung collapse. you just mentioned there a few moments ago he is currently in stable condition, garrett, but that is all we know at this point. we have calls out to the bureau of prisons to get more information about what exactly happened. how did this altercation begin? and who is the other individual? we just don't have those answers at this point, but once again, larry nassar suffered a stabbing and is in stable condition recovering. >> kathy, thank you. >>> coming up, save the date. the first 2024 republican contest is set for iowa on the books earlier than many expected. can ron desantis or somebody, anybody else, close in on donald trump? this is "
