my colleague kathy park is covering the storm, there she was supposed to join us live, but she was forced leave her location because the waters were rising so quickly. she did file this report before she left. watch this. >> good evening, we are here in downtown charleston right now. as you can see, things have got a ton from bad to worse. we are standing in about a foot of water right now. i want to set the scene for you, we are here at the historic battery and beyond my shoulder right there is the seawall. you can see some of the waves crashing over, and that is why we're seeing all of this flooding heading inland. something we are tracking throughout the day today. around 6:30's evening we are standing by that seawall, things weren't too bad. but then within the past hour we had to quickly move our vehicles, get higher. found a lot of residents today here in downtown charleston closed their shutters, also stacked sandbags and prevented some of the floodwater from getting into their homes. when the parking garages in the areas have been open for folks to move their vehicles to higher gr

joining us from pittsburgh is kathy park.'s already been an unexpected issue with the jurors? what happened? >> reporter: hey, ana, good afternoon. shortly after deliberations got underway around 9:00 this morning, the jury wanted to review the weapons used in the attack once more. the judge granted that request then when the jury actually came in to see those guns, there was a point when some of the jurors questioned the u.s. marshal in the room. defense caught wind of this. quickly raised this issue with the judge. the marshal took the stand and had to recall their conversation and ultimately, the judge said look, the jurors, you can't use any of that information, the conversation, as part of the evidence. >> okay. kathy park, thank you. we'll await their verdict once they reach it. appreciate it. >>> in michigan, a judge is hearing what we expect will be the final day of hearing in the sentencing hearing for the oxford high school shooter. then he will have to decide whether 17-year-old ethan crumbley will spend his life b

kathy park is in pittsburgh and joins us now.s was a trauma for the nation, certainly for the jewish community, for other minorities. it's a hate crime. now the death penalty. >> reporter: andrea, good afternoon. that's right. a lot of family members actually attended this trial from the very beginning. it especially was emotional for them. we should be hearing their remarks a few hours from now close to the tree of life synagogue. as you mentioned, it's bringing our viewers up to speed, the jury voted unanimously for the death penalty. this trial was broken up into different phases. there was the guilty portion. that was part one. he was eligible for the death penalty, and they decided that in july. then here we are moving forward with the death penalty. we are told the sentencing -- the formality will be tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m., but they had to be unanimous on this decision. it's likely looking ahead that his defense attorney, the legal team will file an appeal. on monday, we heard closing arguments. his legal team argued

nbc's kathy park is in westminster, maryland, this morning. what is the latest where you are? >> reporter: hey, jose, good morning to you. crews are working really hard to reopen highway 140, shut down since monday night, ever since the powerful storms blew through. if you take a look behind me, you'll probably notice that what appears to be one of the last power poles in the area being removed. 30 of them came crashing down and incredibly no one was hurt. some of these power poles landed directly on to vehicles, trapping drivers inside. one gentleman told me he was stuck in there for five hours. once again, everyone was able to get out safely. but this wild weather pattern has really been striking all corners of the country. portions of new england, massachusetts, recovery after two tornadoes touched down on tuesday. also parts of boston drying out after heavy showers led to some flash flooding and water rescues. meanwhile, tens of thousands of customers in pennsylvania and also back here in maryland still without power this morning. and, of course, jose, this is having a hug
