katie: yes.nd you step back and think about what happened in 2022 and 2023, you had a big surprise to the downside in 2022. you have a similar thing in reverse this year. you have to understand so much about the rally this year was instigated not by dramatically accelerating fundamentals so much as it was, wow, there is not a recession. you tend to think of positioning mismatch as things over a couple of days, maybe a month. this was a whole year. the lot of the big allocators were playing catch-up in the second half of the year because they were probably overweight in bonds and underweight in equities. as we get to 2024, i think that positioning mismatch is going to be largely behind us. it will be less of a factor. there will always be positioning mismatches, but i think what is going to happen will be more of a healthier, more rhythmic equity market conditions there. carol: is it safe to say that we are through all of the pandemics? i feel like every market conversation over the last couple of

"katy tur reports" starts right now ♪♪ >>> good to be with you. i'm katy tur.ld he be facing criminal charges if he were not the president's son? hunter biden's lawyers argue their client is only being federally indicted because his last name is biden. and because the now special counsel appointed to investigate him faced enormous pressure from republicans to help them make hunter biden a campaign issue. after all, his team argues, prosecutor david weiss looked into hunter biden for five years, and only decided to indict now after the plea deal fell apart. we'll get to the bottom of how much those arguments hold water in a moment with chuck rosenberg, but first, we will exclusively speak with hunter biden's attorney, abbe lowell. let's lay out what david weiss says he found. there are nine counts in the 56 page indictment, including three felony counts, accusing biden of engaging in a four-year scheme to willfully avoid paying $1.4 million in taxes. instead, using that money on, quote, drugs, escorts, and girlfriends, luxury hotels, and rental properties, exoti

i am katie phang. we begin today's show with the latest in the new york attorney generals 250 million dollar civil fraud trial, ju o of the cases in donald trump's expensive portfolio of legal troubles. on wednesday, we saw the last day of testimony in the trial with closing arguments from both sides now scheduled for january 11th. attorney general letitia james has accused trump of inflating his wealth on financial statements used to secure loans and made deals. in a partial summary judgment decision back in september, judge arthur engoron ruled that donald trump, his core business is, and his adult sons who run them were all liable for fraudulent asset valuation. while awaiting closing arguments and the verdict, trump on friday appealed to the limited gag orders put in place by judge engoron which prevent trump from making comments about the court staff after an appellate court ruled to keep those gag orders in place just the day before. joining me now for more, joyce vance, former u.s. attorney in a

katy austin. thank you.d the transgender teenager brianna ghey when they are sentenced early next year. they were both found guilty yesterday of stabbing brianna in a park in cheshire. here's our north of england correspondent, judith moritz. the murder of brianna ghey has caused huge shock and public outrage. she was killed in a particularly brutal way by offenders who are themselves children. during their trial, the i6—year—olds were known as girl x and boy y, given anonymity because of their age. our artist was able to draw the scenes in court, but took care to make sure the children, greyed out here, weren't identifiable. after they were found guilty, the media applied for the order protecting their identities to be lifted, arguing that it's in the interests of open justice. thejudge had to weigh up significant public interest on one hand with concerns for the children's welfare on the other. describing it as an "exceptional case", she ruled that continuing with the anonymity would represent a substantia

katie, can you explain this case, what happened today?y agreed to take the on an appeal that could have have a major impact on the criminal prosecution of former president bush. can you tell us what happened? >> yeah. this was actually a very big development especially for donald trump's pending case in d.c. but particularly for many of the people charged in the january 6th riots in the capitol. essentially what the supreme court is going to be analyzing is whether the statute that many of those so-called rye e yachters were charged with, which was an obstruction statute, was actually appropriate under the circumstances and was actually applicable to their actions because the law actually required that they be shown to have interfered with an official proceeding. instead, many of these people that were charged said that there was no evidence presented of that particular part of the statute, so the supreme court has now taken up the issue. and it's particularly significant because donald trump is charged with this very statute in the janua
