katie beck is here with the update on the victims. what do we know about any more people that may be released from the hospital today? >> reporter: well, right now, there is a silver lining for those injured in the shooting. of the 159 transported to area hospitals injured, there are now only seven that remain hospitalized and one in critical condition at this time. so we have seen several discharged over the past 24 hours which is a reassuring sign for the community that is offering a lot of hope going through a lot of grief at this point. as you said, yesterday, we learned more about the 17 lives lost in this terrible tragedy. we know 14 of those lives were of students, three of them of adults. a high school administrator, a beloved coach, a teacher and then the students. we're learning details about these students. how their dreams were interrupted. these were students that had tremendous promise. they were a swim captain headed off to college, an amazing soccer player, someone in rotc, a merit scholar, people that had dreams and w

that was katy beck reporting for us. >>> authorities providing details on what happened the day of the shooting. authorities have released a timeline of events on what unfolded wednesday afternoon. the broward county sheriff's office, crews arrived at the school at 2:19 p.m. after being dropped offensively by an uber. he began shooting into several classrooms. by 2:38 p.m. he was running away from the school with other students trying to flee according to the sheriff's office he went inside of a walmart, bought a drink at a subway sandwich shop. he then went to mcdonald's and sat down for a short time there. at 3:41 in the afternoon he was detained and taken into custody by police. right now cruz is being held without bond on 17 counts of first degree premed dated murder. he has reportedly been placed on suicide watch at the jail. the ar-15 assault rifle used in the attack was bought legally back in february of 2017. the new york times points out it is easier to buy an ar-15 than it is to buy a handgun. anyone without a felony record, domestic abuse conviction or a handful of other exc

catie beck is at the hospital where many other victims were taken and katie, i understand we'll get an update from doctors at that news conference. what more can you tell us about these 17 people who were rushed to the hospital? >> reporter: i think that sound really says it all. just a community feeling so broken and so shattered by this tragedy this morning. yet there are still parents, still loved ones that are clinging to hope, hoping and praying that these survivors, the injured that are hospitalized are going to be able to pull through as ali said, there are 15 still hospitalized, five of them are listed in critical condition. the other ten are said to have nonlife-threatening injuries and we do believe that some of them have been discharged already. we don't have official confirmation on that. hopefully at that press conference we'll get more information. at this point we don't have ages or genders, whether those in the hospital are students or teachers. we assume it's a combination of both at this point but we haven't gotten official confirmation on that yet. the surgeon that i
