meteorologist katie fehlinger joins us now looking very festive with a better idea when wet weather will begin, hi there, katie. >> do i love a good theme, i had to break out my very new favorite dress because this is a very indication of the kind of accessory you want to have on hand but later on today and tonight. good news at the timing of this is bulk of the steady heaviest rain comes primarily overnight into early tomorrow. many of you will be inside safely tucked away inside for bed for the night. rain does get underway as early as this evening, and again, it comes with the brunt of the precipitation into the early overnight hours but as of 2:00 p.m. just shy of two hours from right now a flash flood watch is already going into effect. it lasts a solid 24 hours, before the southern half, specifically of the delaware valley. what we will notice on storm scan here right south of the baltimore and northe of d.c. right along beltway and 95 corridor here very heavy thunderstorms have been developing, and we will see this continue to be a theme, it continues to develop, showers, thunders

lets get to katie fehlinger with the answer tracking the excessive heat from the cbs-3 weather center, katie. >> in short answer rahel, there will be relife but it will take a while. we have to deal with handful of days that top off in the 90 's. today is one of them. that excessive heat is definitely making it feel uncomfortable outside. we will start off by taking you out first to the excessive heat warning that continues, for, again, its second day here. right now it is including philadelphia, surrounding vicinity and it will feel as hot as 102 from now right through the height of the afternoon, which is about 4:00 f the year. so heat advisory do also extend out for maryland, long island but rest of the region technically not included in one. keep in mind we still feel hot , already. lancaster, trenton where we're not necessarily included, in that excessive heat warning, so even down toward dover it is starting to feel as hot as upper 90's and pine land areas 98 current heat index in millville, of all places. storm scan is empty, however, we are expecting that this heat wave will c

meteorologist, katie fehlinger , joins us live from the cbs-3 skydeck now, with a look at how high these temperatures are going to climb, so what's the news, katie? >> you know, i think already flirting with 90 here this afternoon, jim. but the nice bonus that keeps things still pretty comfortable, even despite the building conditions, when it comes to the heat, is that the humidity is still quite low. dew points stayed low all morning long, you woke up, walked out the door to fall- like atmosphere. but now it feels like summer again. let's take a look at storm scan, which at the moment is devoid of any storms whatsoever, you have nice clear sky, couple of passing clouds, that's all you'll find overhead for the rest of the day. meanwhile temperatures responding to the solar heating in the low or mid 80s, around the region as a whole generally speaking. interestingly, dover actually one of the cooler spot of the pack, typicallyly you ends up at the height of the range of thermometer readings. but, with that said, we still have many hours left of the afternoon, so we are going to heat thin

meteorologist katie fehlinger is track the rain and she pinpoint timing for the rest of the day, hi therete. >> he we had soaking rain over broadcast center and we had heavier rain off to the north and west of that. you can see the progression of that rain at the moment, even a couple thunderstorms out there too but lets talk statistics, briefly specific to allentown again, lehigh veil, poconos have been blasted with soaking rain and this is just so far for to day , 1.78 inches of rain has fallen and had does pretty much shatter the old record left at 1947 for daily rainfall of 1.39 inches. with that said, it is clearly not only place that got hit hard with rain. you will notice at the moment this wider zoom that the bulk of the widespread rain is up toward, long island, parts of the connecticut. we have this line moving through. once this gets through and even already we are starting to see skies clearing out. take a look for example at, an interestingly, packed beach at boardwalk plaza in rehoboth delaware which has been slammed last day and a half with soaking rain but it has dried out

meteorologist katie fehlinger tracking the wet weather from the cbs3 weather sent. what's the latest. >> we have wet weather out there. it looks as though you'll be getting hit with nothing at the given hour or a little bit of light rain or even pockets of steady rain. just a bit of a variety pack going on right now. disturbance is the culprit for it. actually start it off with just a snapshot view as we make tri-state sweep over storm sca m scan3. what you'll notice the steady yesterday rain is falling at least in our local area across southern new jersey and parts of sussex county in delaware. now this is where we've seen the brunt thus far down through the southern delmarva peninsula terms of our local area any way. heavy thunderstorms you'll notice, too, southern delmarva peninsula down through southwestern most or southeastern in fact most maryland really heavy thunderstorms having rumbled through that. this has been disturbance responsible for multiple inches worth of accumulating rain especially across places like prince william county out near the dc/baltimo

let's get to kate fehlinger who has more on how hot it feels right now. katie>> yes, it is quite brutal rahel. you said it a couple triple digits already showing up on the heat index. let's start it off just very quickly with the numbers to beat if 24 end we were to end up with a.m. couple of -- a couple of records. so, here's that excessive heat warning as well as the heat advisory. look where you're located and where you fall. regardless everybody except the poconos is included in this. it's still hot up that way too just not quite this oppressive. it may feel as hot as 103 those at the core where the core of that heat is located and there's no centralized. urban corridor, you go into delaware and even parts of southern new jersey that already feels like the triple digit, in philadelphia at the philadelphia international airport like it's flirting with a hundred already and we still have many hours left of the afternoon to go here. so, as the day does progress, obviously the extreme heat and humidity are the primary story. you have to factor in that humid. an

meteorologist kate fehlinger is tracking the storms that may be packing a big punch for the end of the week. hey, katie>> you said it jim. today is chump change compared to tomorrow. stay tuned for the full forecast because eventually there is some very stroking rains and strong thunderstorms that will be rumbling through our area but for now it's pretty quiet outside. a quick peek at storm scan3. no storms in sight except for up at the poconos where you have a light smattering of a couple showers. any one is fair game to see a shower or a thunderstorm at some point this afternoon but i'm not that sold that we're going see anything all that strong today. it would be in tomorrow especially that the really stronger thunderstorms would likely fire up. in the meantime our temperatures are now flirting with or already into the low 80's through the southern most counties and you're currently mid upper 70's pretty much up and down 95. it should be warmer than yesterday. we're shooting for a high of about 85 degrees just shy of what's seasonable. thunderstorm icons, you'll see them pop up in any of the regions
