katie nielsen joins us live from the scene with how it all unfolded. katie? >> reporter: michelle, so we are athese hot spots are out. we just saw a firefighter using a thermal imaging camera. as of right now, they are not seeing any of those extra hot spots inside the home but this is almost seven hours after the fire started. they finally think they might have it out. the first 911 calls about this fire came in around 10:30 last night saying flames were shooting up out of the roof. when firefighters arrived and trying to get insidehe house, they were blocked by what they call a large amount of items stored inside the home and attic, making it hard for firefighters to find the elderly woman who was trapped inside. >> because of all of the fuel loading inside, it is very difficult to extinguish all of the fires. they have to pull a lot of material out. . >> never saw her. never really paid much attention to the house even though i walked around the neighborhood. >> why did you think nobody lived there? >> it was always dark. it was dark. never saw anybody goi

you are looking at 23 minutes going over to the 101. >>> and katie nielsen. hills above los gatos along highway 17. the strong rain is continuing to fall. the roadways are wet. you can see the spray coming up from all of the tires. now, the south based thought heavy rain overnight last night. and, they had difficult driving conditions. yesterday there were a number of accidents here along highway 17 the including the spin out that brought it to a standstill. the heavy rains caused mudslides, and storm drains are filled with water making it and are ready treacherous drive it just that much harder. >> everything is a lot more wet. we just have to take it easier. slow down a little bit. >> ough, what leather is along the holiday weekend. yesterday being one of the busiest travel days. and, an inopportune time for all this rain. this morning here along highway 17. we are not seeing the same types of problems as yesterday. everyone is able to take it slow today. and, traffic is moving as normal. and, it's notoriously this different difficult stretch of highway. ka

. >>> i'm katie nielsen at the newsdesk. we're taking a live look at downtown boston. you're going to have to take my word for it. you can just barely see some of the holdings, the high-rises, peeking through, all of that snow. it is all due to a massive winter storm that has dumped more than 20 inches of snow in the town. the governor announced a delayed start for nonessential state employees, meaning most state officers will not open until 10:00 pm. know, in the neighborhoods outside of boston, your taking a live look there now. you can see cars driving through all of the/. people are trudging away along unplowed, unshoveled sidewalks. so definitely tough times in boston. it makes our rain seem not quite so bad. >>> we do have snow in the sierra and problems like this. rockslide triggered by this latest last of snow completely blocked the west point lane of highway 60 near echo summit for hours yesterday. caltrans tells traffic on and off during the cleanup. this year is seeing a break from fresh snowpack but not for long. another storm is just around the corner. it

katie nielsen talked to some travelers hoping for an easy trip. >> reporter: definitely a busy time of year here. you can see the line of people here at terminal 2 waiting to check bags. this is at american airlines. a bunch of people in line. of course those suitcases filled with all kinds of presents as they head out to see friends and family nis holiday season. thankfully were not seeing the same types of delays as yesterday. yesterday there were more than 400 flights delayed. the threat of more bad weather coming in possibly christmas eve and into christmas day could lead to more flight delays or cancellations for those who frequently travel in and out of sfo, these types of weather delays are nothing new. >>> this morning it is nice and clear so it looks good. we're in add out, prechecked and ready to go. >> were you worried about any weather delays or anything this morning? >> not really. it was too early to be worried about anything. >> they are expecting a record number of travel lers this holiday season so they want you to leave extra time to get through security. right now no

let's go out right now to katie nielsen. she is alive in your highly team near los gatos with the meal of the stormy weather as drivers hit the road. what are the conditions like wax >> reporter: as you can see, there's a lot of rain out here. linda's aim to be in that. highway 17, victoriously difficult during the storms. you can see, as they are going by. and got the taillight all on the roadways. this is coming up from those tires. the south they saw a lot of these heavy rains overnight last night and into this morning causing the water to pool on the road creating difficult driving conditions all across the area. and yesterday, there were a number of accidents here along highway 17 including a pinout that brought traffic basically to a stop. the heavy rain drops here, with the storm drains and water, making an r&d treacherous drive just that much harder. >> everything is a lot more wet. got to take it easier. slow down to a little bit. >> reporter: all of the wet weather a long holiday weekend of rain and wind. and, with
